WELCOME TO DANCE!!!

A huge WELCOME to all of our new and returning students! We are eager to begin our year and share our passion with you as we celebrate our 39th season!

Please take a moment to read through and familiarize yourself with what we are about! We are SO HAPPY TO DANCE WITH YOU!

Meet Your Teacher!

We are so happy to have parents, grandparents and assorted caregivers back in our lobby. For the first class of the year we invite you INTO the classroom to meet the instructor and find out first hand what OUR goals for your child are. We hope to partner with you to make AMAZING, caring, responsible humans.

You can help us by making sure your dancer arrives on time and ready to dance (this might include a snack in the car, and a visit to the restroom before class starts) is wearing the proper dance attire, including shoes and hair is styled accordingly comes to class every week so they don't fall behind and become frustrated We want to make this a GREAT experience for your dancer but we need your help in order to succeed. Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns at dancewithus@backstagedance.org, or stop by the front desk and let us know how we can help!

DRESS CODE Is your dancer dressed appropriately for class? Proper dress code allows our instructors to see body lines and correct technique, keeps our dance floors clean and dirt free, and helps your child to focus on classroom instruction.

Open H Our Open House was a huge success! A big shout out to all the team kids that performed, the BDS staff that taught classes and helped with goodie bags, selfie and coloring stations, face painting, raffle give aways and the families that participated in making it an event to remember!

Our New I Miss Shay comes to us as a former professional AFL Cheerleader with the Colorado Crush and Denver Nuggets and has 18 years of teaching and coaching experience in dance and cheer. Miss Shay has been leading the WNBA Seattle Storm Dance Troupe as the Director and Choreographer for the past 8 years. She shares her life with husband Aaron and is the proud mom of 5 year old son Kayden. Miss Shay is currently seeking her AFAA Certification and is always challenging herself to learn NEW styles! Shay’s motto is to ALWAYS GROW! Her life and true love is dance and she is so excited to grow your children into strong and dedicated dancers and confident humans! Miss Shay will be teaching Hip Hop, Acro and Jazz classes.

Miss Maddie is a recent graduate of Western Washington University with a major in Dance. She was the Director of SINIHHA which is an all inclusive Hip Hop club for 3 years while attending WWU. Miss Maddie shares her life with her dachshund Holly, and enjoys playing the guitar and ukulele in her free time!

She is thrilled to share her passion for the arts with her students. She joins the Backstage family instructing in Hip Hop, Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary!

Miss Grace is a recent graduate of Cornish College of the Arts and is involved in multiple performing companies in the Seattle area. While attending Cornish she was the proud recipient of multiple awards, including the Pat Hon Merit Scholarship and the Cornish College of the Arts Terpsichore Writing Award. Miss Grace is passionate about teaching young dancers strong technique and beauty through movement, and believes the strong work ethic instilled within the classroom will help her students well into their adult years. She is excited to teach a variety of classes, including Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz and Tap!

Miss Jenae attended Evergreen City Ballet, with additional training at Oregon Ballet Theater, Walnut Hill, Alonzo King LINES Ballet and Ballet Austin. She danced professionally with Ballet Austin and Tulsa Ballet before moving to Las Vegas and dancing with a long standing show and acting as Dance Captain. Jenae is also a Certified Massage Therapist and Yoga Instructor! Jenae is looking forward to sharing her knowledge and passion to the next generation of dancers.

GETTING AROUND Backstage is a large facility and we want you to feel comfortable and know what is happening within our walls.

We have 6 rooms, located in 2 different buildings. Your dancer will take class in the same dance room every week. Please check the chalkboard in the main building for teacher/class location.

Parents are welcome to watch from the lobby windows. Please do not tap on the window or cause distractions to the dancers in the classroom.

Please be timely when dropping off dancers AND when picking them up.

We are not responsible for children before/after their scheduled class time.

Our parking lot can be CRAZY. Please drive slowly and carefully through the lot at all times, and teach your child to watch for moving cars in the parking lot, as well as recognize back up lights. Do not allow your child to play in the parking lot.

OUR CHARACTER FOCUS FOR SEPTEMBER IS

Bravery Look for a culture card coming home with your dancer. This month we will talk about being brave, which can include many things including raising your hand to answer a question being first in line helping a classmate coming to your first dance class trying when you can't YET do a skill falling and getting back up demonstrating by yourself asking a question Page 8
