the black national anthem “lift every voice and sing” By James Weldon Johnson lift ev’ry voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring. ring with the harmonies of liberty; let our rejoicing rise, high as the list’ning skies, let it resound loud as the rolling sea. sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; facing the rising sun of our new day begun, let us march on till victory is won.

HISTORY OF MISS BLACK EIU Since its inception in 1971, the Black Student Union at Eastern Illinois University has been the proud sponsor of The Miss Black EIU Scholarship Pageant for over four decades. Annually, the Miss Black EIU Scholarship Pageant has been the most celebrated cultural tradition on the campus of EIU held in celebration of African-American Heritage Month in February. The Miss MBEIU Scholarship Pageant promotes and celebrates African-American heritage, culture and experiences, within the EIU community. Many women have accepted the call and few have been chosen to compete for the crown and honor of representing Eastern’s African-American community as Miss Black EIU. Through the years 48 young women have proudly worn the crown of MBEIU culminating in the crowning of Miss Black EIU 2020.
