GASÒLEO AND BLAZ’IN

OUR 2 RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE MONTH

Nestled in the heart of Zone 3, Gasòleo and Blaz’in form an essential duo that perfectly combines gastronomy and nightlife. Between the chic and electrifying atmosphere of the Gasòleo lounge and the friendly, gourmet atmosphere of Blaz’in, these two establishments offer an ideal setting to meet up, relax, and vibrate to the rhythm of the capital.

One address, 2 atmospheres, and the same promise: to delight you!

BLAZ’IN

If you know Superkart, the track where karting and adrenaline lovers meet to live their passion in Abidjan, then you also know the restaurant Blaz’in. Created as the Kitchen station of the track, it is a place where you will be immersed in a 1950s “American diner” atmosphere, mixed with a very contemporary design. What do we eat there? Incredible burgers, but also a diversity of dishes, each as tasty as the next! Whether it is for birthdays, dinners with friends, or simply an afterwork to decompress at the end of the day, Blaz’in will know how to delight you!

GASÒLEO

Notice to the “bons vivants” of Abidjan: Gasòleo is an absolute must-have in your nightlife diaries! You bound to know this vibrant place, which has recently vibrated to the rhythm of major events such as the Boiler Room, the concert of Jeune Morty, or the mythical sessions of La Sunday. Renowned as “the place where big parties happen,” the establishment owes its fame to its large ultra-versatile space and, above all, to one of the best sound systems in the capital.

Yet, Gasòleo is not just about its electric nights. Did you know that the address also hides a very beautiful table? And yes, one eats divinely well there! Among the gems on the menu that will seduce you, fall for the truffle pizza, the ultra-tender skewers and their homemade chimichurri sauce, or the seafood tacos, sublimated by a mango salsa and fresh cilantro… a real treat! Come and appreciate the experience for yourselves, but we prefer to warn you: it is highly possible that you will get a taste for it much more often than planned!

FOOD TREND THE AÇAI BOWLS

Freshness alert on your plates! Impossible to have missed this trend that colors our Instagram feeds and wakes up our mornings. Colorful, fresh, and terribly photogenic, the açai bowl, this nutritional bomb straight from Brazil, has officially packed its bags in Babi. At once gourmet, refreshing, and endlessly customizable, it appeals as much to well-being enthusiasts as it does to food lovers. But what is its secret?

The purple wave sweeps over Abidjan!

At the heart of the bowl: açai (pronounced assahi), a small purple berry from the Amazon, renowned for its antioxidant and energizing properties. Blended frozen with a banana or a dash of plant-based milk, it takes on the smooth texture of a velvety sorbet, halfway between a smoothie and a frozen dessert. But the real magic of the açai bowl lies in its toppings... And that is where everything comes into play! Crunchy granola, banana slices, strawberry pieces, berries, shredded coconut, seeds, nuts, a drizzle of honey, or peanut butter: everyone composes their bowl according to their desires. In Abidjan, tropical versions have naturally taken over, with touches of papaya, passion fruit, mango, or pineapple bringing even more freshness.

Why do we love it?

Because beyond its ultra-photogenic look, the açai bowl ticks all the boxes of the ideal breakfast. Satiating without being heavy, fresh, naturally vitamin-packed, and perfectly energizing to kick off the day well, it responds perfectly to this desire to eat better without giving up pleasure. Rushed morning, post-sport recovery, or Sunday brunch: it is the feel-good reflex par excellence. We validate 100%.

« COSMOGONIES CONTEMPORAINES »

On the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the Jacobleu Art Gallery, this multidisciplinary artist (painter, photographer, and writer) presents a series of canvases. In them, he reinvents our dances, our music, and our initiatory rites, transfiguring them into a new aesthetic, both rooted and resolutely contemporary, where each color becomes a poetic resonance and each touch a reinterpretation of the world. Amajor exhibition on Ivorian cinema from the 1960s to today, but through a different prism. It proposes a parallel with contemporary art in which several artists will reappropriate scenes and themes of major Ivorian directors (Timité Bassori, Désiré Écaré, Henri Duparc, Roger Gnoan M’Bala, Philippe Lacôte…). Until September 27, 2026, at MuCAT (Abobo).

« ARCHITECTURES INVISIBLES »

The Cécile Fakhoury Gallery invites you to discover two collective exhibitions, “Le temps du rêve de l’enfant” (The Child’s Dream Time) in the main gallery and “Rêves en miroir” (Mirror Dreams) in the Project space. Both are curated by art critic and curator Franck Hermann Ekra.

“Le temps du rêve de l’enfant” invites Ernest Dükü to open the doors of our Inner City in dialogue with two important artists of transAfrican modernities: Wèrèwèrè Liking and Souleymane Keïta. Wèrèwèrè Liking offers a poetic and cosmic work stemming from ritual arts, while Keïta, heir to the School of Dakar, develops a symbolic painting marked by light and signs, linked to initiatory traditions. Both artists are represented by

a selection of three works each. “Rêves en miroir”, for its part, will bring together in a display 7 trans-African artists around Ernest Dükü: Assoukrou Ake; Dalila Dalleas Bouzar; François-Xavier Gbrè; Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien; Roméo Mivekannin; Cheikh Ndiaye; Ouattara Watts

Until August 29, 2026, at the Galerie Cécile Fakhoury (2 Plateaux).

« TILE DJA »

Under the initiative of African Artists, the Sofitel Avenir program hosts the exhibition of Burkinabè artist Mamadou Coulibaly, known as “Joe Kokker”.

A self-taught artist-designer, he proposes a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional mask of the Bobo ethnic group. Inspired by his career as an antique dealer and his knowledge of African arts, he explores ancestral scarifications and reinterprets them in a rich and vibrant visual language, where color becomes light, emotion, and memory. At the crossroads of tradition and modernity, he works with wood and metal to give birth to unique works, imbued with history and

meaning. His aesthetic, at once dreamlike and multicolored, invites to a true inner journey, oscillating between serenity, joy, nostalgia, and hope. Each piece, thought of as a unique work, reflects the passion and know-how of the artist, while affirming a strong will: to sublimate African heritage through a contemporary and deeply personal artistic writing.

Until July 11, 2026, at the Couloir des Arts, Sofitel Abidjan Hotel Ivoire (Cocody).

« CE QUE NOUS GARDONS : L’HUMANITÉ EN PARTAGE »

This exhibition brings together four artists whose practices explore an essential question: what do we choose to preserve to continue to make community? Through memory, transmission, and love, their works remind us that human beings build themselves in relation to others.

Allé Assi paints with loincloth, transforming the fabric into scenes of daily life. This creative gesture pays a vibrant tribute to his seamstress mother, erecting the material of maternal love as a symbol of a humanity transmitted between generations.

Bernard Tano creates in a lived proximity with street children. His semi-abstract canvases, saturated with a raw and warm energy, do not content themselves with representing innocence: they are the direct trace of a shared time.

Emmanuel Lekryst materializes love through assembly. Through the concept of Nzassa, his figurative and mythological characters hold a visible thread that unites them, illustrating what we keep to refuse dispersion.

Hervé Yamguen, finally, breathes a vital force into the living. His surreal scenes, saturated with colors, revive an afflicted humanity. His painting acts like an electric current that makes kindness and cheerfulness bloom.

Until September 2026 at the Studer Gallery (Cocody).

« APRÈS LA TRACE »

EXHIBITION OF THE MONTH

This month, the Abidjan artistic landscape is enriched by a major conceptual event. In partnership with the Honorary Consul of Rwanda in Côte d’Ivoire, Nondy’s solo exhibition “Après la Trace” (After the Trace) invites the public to an immersive dive into the heart of the invisible. The event opens with a philosophical and essential question: what becomes of an image when its origin fades, the form falters, and the meaning shifts?

Originally from Sikensi, in the AgnébyTiassa region, the young Ivorian visual artist Nondy is emerging as a rising figure of his generation. Trained at INSAAC in Abidjan, within ESAPAD (formerly Beaux-Arts) where he specialized in painting, he develops a spontaneous, free, and expressive pictorial language. His work today inhabits a rare territory: that of the in-between, where figuration dissolves into abstraction, and where the visible gradually gives way to what cannot be articulated.

For this exclusive exhibition, Nondy gathers works that do not seek to fix reality, but to reveal its instabilities, overlaps, and fragile survivals. Based on his own photographs and his social environment, he constructs unstable images. His portraits, landscapes, and revisited everyday scenes always seem on the verge of disappearing. Through gestures of superimposition, erasure, and recomposition, he shakes up the codes of the support and the frame, fragmenting the legibility of the visible to bring out an uncertain memory, in permanent tension between presence and disappearance.

In the continuity of major contemporary

approaches, close to those of Armand Boua or the German master Gerhard Richter, his work explores an aesthetic of transition. Painting here becomes a space of suspension where color and texture translate fragments of experience, inscribing on the canvas a memory that is both personal and collective.

“Après la trace” does not designate an end, but a state of continuous transformation. The exhibition fits into this subtle interstice where the image becomes a vestige and memory, a vibration. The spectator is thus invited to a slow gaze, attentive to the superimposed layers, the silences, and the withdrawals of matter. Here, seeing does not simply consist in recognizing, but in perceiving what remains when the image undoes itself. A profound reflection on identity and the challenges of contemporary African creation, to be discovered absolutely.

« SILLAGE » WHEN THE SEA BECOMES MEMORY

WBorn in 1998, self-taught and a graduate of the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Abidjan, Armel Singo developed an intimate relationship with salvage very early on. As a child, he was already making objects and toys from recycled materials. This founding sensitivity continues to feed his current practice, in which melted plastic becomes a creative material in its own right. “I mainly use melted plastic waste in my works,” he explains.

“This technique allows me to transform rejected materials into creations filled with meaning. For me, art is a way of revealing the hidden beauty in what we throw away.”

In “Sillage”, this gesture takes on a particular dimension. The exhibition brings together a series of portraits traversed by the texture, density, and memory of the materials. The coastline appears less as a decor than as a space for collection, circulation, and transformation. Waste becomes pigments, fragments become faces, and the remains of daily life turn into visual signs charged with emotion.

ith “Sillage”, Armel Singo offers a sensitive exhibition where the material abandoned by the sea becomes artistic language. At the Maison KŌTŌKŌ, in Mockeyville, the Ivorian artist transforms plastic waste collected on the coastline, charcoal, and raw materials into powerful portraits at the intersection of ecology, territory, and collective memory. A way to remind us that the sea leaves traces, and that art can reveal their poetic force. From coastal waste to the faces of a living memory.

The universe of Armel Singo is thus constructed in a balance between commitment and plastic sensitivity. His work does not content itself with denouncing pollution; it proposes a sensitive reading of refuse, a way to make beauty emerge where one saw only abandonment. Through painting and photography, the artist composes a personal language, nurtured by writing, the French language, and philosophy, which gives his work a unique reflective depth.

“Sillage” ultimately invites us to look differently at what the sea rejects. Not as an end, but as the starting point of another story. That of a material that survives, of a territory that speaks, and of an artist who chooses to transform the traces of reality into active memory.

ZOH CATALEYA AT THE GOETHE-INSTITUT

THE SACRED VOICE OF CODIJAZZ

On July 10, 2026, the Goethe-Institut of Abidjan will adorn itself in green and white to host an exceptional concert-performance. Under the theme “Fusion between two worlds”, the talented artist Zoh Cataleya will orchestrate a unique evening dedicated to Codijazz, an innovative musical movement where urban modernity unites magnificently with Ivorian cultural heritage.

When contemporary jazz sublimates the richness of Ivorian traditions.

Nicknamed “The daughter of the ancestors”, Zoh Cataleya is a singer-songwriter who is shaking up the current music scene. Nurtured since her childhood by hip-hop, RnB, and jazz, this artist originally from the West of Côte d’Ivoire has been able to structure her passion through an exemplary academic path. A graduate of INSAAC and trained at the Conservatory as well as at ESMA in audiovisuals, she masters the art of the stage as well as the image.

On stage, her presence is magnetic. An active member of the JARAFRO collective, she brilliantly accompanies herself on guitar and balafon. Her uniqueness lies in her memorial approach, since Zoh Cataleya regularly sings in Toura, her mother tongue. This deep commitment to safeguarding heritage also earned her a special distinction in December 2024 during the prestigious Tonkpi Nihidaley festival in Man.

With her next concert, Zoh Cataleya invites us to discover her universe, Codijazz. Carried by an eponymous collective, this current is establishing itself as one of the most refreshing platforms in the country, celebrating local creativity at the intersection of afro-jazz, world-pop, and traditional sounds. Get out your finest green and white outfits, and come vibrate to the rhythm of this total fusion!

SPIDER-MAN : BRAND NEW DAY

MOVIE OF THE MONTH

In a world that no longer remembers him, Peter Parker relentlessly pursues his fight against crime. But the feeling of having been forgotten by his friends, who are now moving forward without him, causes a change in Peter that he may not be able to control. And yet, it is this mutation that could be his only chance to oppose a terrifying adversary ready to attack the city and all of Spider-Man’s loved ones. For if the world no longer remembers Peter Parker, he has not forgotten it…

BAAB talks about it...

Still carried by the excellent Tom Holland, this 4th installment is inspired by a cult comic book story arc from 2008. After the dramatic events of No Way Home, which erased his existence from the collective memory, Peter Parker is now alone in the world. He lives in complete anonymity in the heart of a raw New York, having to reconcile his hard life as a broke student and his mission as protector of the city against urban crime.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film promises a significantly more mature tone and true psychological vulnerability. This complete stripping down also pushes the spider’s powers toward an unexpected and organic evolution. On the casting side, while Zendaya (MJ) makes her big return amidst mixed feelings, new faces are causing a sensation, starting with Sadie Sink or Jon Bernthal, who slips back into the Punisher’s suit. Faced with the formidable organization of the Hand and the crime boss Tombstone, Spider-Man will have to learn to rebuild himself by the sweat of his brow.

In short, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the ideal feature film to find the very essence of the character: a deeply human, funny, and madly endearing hero. A cinematic breath of fresh air not to be missed this summer! In your Majestic theaters on July 31, 2026.

LES ICÔNES DE KIMIA

THE LITERARY RENDEZ-VOUS FOR CHILDREN

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the Institut Français of Côte d’Ivoire invites children to participate in a workshop centered around the collection “Les Icônes de Kimia”. A fun and educational appointment to learn while having fun.

This workshop plunges children (from 6 years old) into the enchanted universe of Kimia. Through the exchanges between this curious little girl and her grandmother who is passionate about History, this book collection takes young readers on a journey to meet the great figures, empires, kingdoms, and resistances that have marked the history of Africa and its diaspora. In her journey, the heroine shares with finesse her understanding of key notions like colorism, self-determination, integrity, or panafricanism. A true journey through time, “Les icônes de Kimia” thus revisits the major global figures of Afrodescendants and invites the discovery of inspiring personalities who, from Nefertiti to Cheikh Anta Diop by way of Frantz Fanon, have lastingly impacted generations through their convictions. To awaken the curiosity of the youngest, each story blends harmoniously with illustrations, anecdotes, quizzes, and activities.

But this workshop goes far beyond the discovery of a book. It is a moment of exchange where children can ask their questions, share their ideas, and appropriate a history that is often misunderstood. By

Un voyage au cœur de l’histoire africaine pour les enfants.

discovering the women and men who marked the continent, they develop their curiosity and understand that the past can be a real source of inspiration for building the future. Whether your child is passionate about History or simply curious to discover new stories, this workshop will offer them a moment rich in discoveries.

BABY YOGA

THE ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH

Looking for a gentle activity to share with your toddler? Baby yoga is attracting more and more young parents in search of privileged moments with their child. Far from the complex postures reserved for adults, this fun and benevolent practice promotes the baby’s motor awakening while strengthening the parent-child bond. A true bubble of complicity to discover from the very first months.

Baby yoga consists of a series of gentle movements, adapted postures, and bodily games performed with the baby. The workshops are generally offered from birth until the acquisition of rolling over (5 to 6 months) and revolve around several highlights: movements inspired by yoga adapted for toddlers, a massage moment promoting relaxation and sensory discovery, as well as an awakening time to stimulate the senses and encourage interactions.

The benefits of this practice on babies are numerous. On the physical level, the movements stimulate global motor skills, improve body awareness, and encourage better coordination. The gentle gestures practiced during the sessions can also contribute to relieving certain tensions, colics, or promoting a more peaceful sleep. To respond to the different stages of the child’s development, specific workshops are also offered from 6 months onwards, when baby masters rolling over on both sides, and until the acquisition of walking (around one year). The exercises then evolve to accompany their new motor capacities, encourage their autonomy, and feed their natural curiosity.

An

interlude of softness for baby and parent.

Beyond the physical benefits, baby yoga offers above all a precious moment of connection between the parent and their child. Glances, smiles, touch, and exchanges create a reassuring environment where everyone learns to know each other better. A gentle and benevolent activity to grow together, in complete serenity.

To be practiced with Sarah Fakih, osteopath. 07 59 13 14 64

AT 2 HOURS FROM ABIDJAN! A TURNKEY WEEKEND IN TIASSALÉ

Just120 kilometers from the Abidjan fervor, barely a two-hour drive via the North Highway, hides a nature destination of unsuspected cultural and historical richness. Forget for a moment the beaches of Assinie or Jacqueville; this month, BAAB embarks you for a turnkey weekend in Tiassalé. Between majestic waterways, historical memory, preserved biodiversity, and agro-tourism, get ready for a total immersion into the heart of Ivorian heritage.

A crossroads of histories, cultures, and nature

Built at the confluence of the Bandama River, the longest in the country, and the N’zi River, Tiassalé has occupied a strategic position for several centuries. Crossed by the main national routes of the country, it formerly constituted a major commercial outpost for explorers going up the Bandama River from Grand-Lahou. This history has shaped a cosmopolitan city where several communities have coexisted since the 18th century, notably the Baoulé, the Abbey, the Agni, the Abidji, and the Elomoins.

Upon your arrival, it is impossible to miss the iconic Tiassalé bridge. Built in 1934, this impressive 300-meter structure composed of 22 arches spans the Bandama and offers a spectacular view of the river. A natural spectacle that immediately sets the tone for the stay.

A WEEKEND BETWEEN LAND AND WATER

SATURDAY MORNING: IN THE HEART OF THE TERROIR

Tiassalé is above all an agricultural land. The surroundings teem with plantations of rubber trees, cocoa, coffee, bananas, pineapples, oil palms, and moringa. To understand this agricultural wealth, several farms open their doors to visitors. Among them, the Kapécé pepper plantation deserves a detour. Founded by Jean-Eude Kacou, it allows the discovery of the different stages of pepper production as well as the numerous variations of this product of the Ivorian terroir. An original visit that will delight gastronomy lovers.

BAAB’s advice: make an appointment in advance for the visit of the Kapécé plantations at 01 52 69 65 52.

Returning to the city center, stroll through the covered market of Tiassalé to soak up the local atmosphere. For lunch, head for the Domaine Ambroise (www. domaineambroise.com). Installed at the water’s edge, below the bridge, this haven of peace offers excellent local cuisine (braised carp, chicken kédjénou) in an ideal setting.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON: THE AQUATIC BALLET OF HIPPOPOTAMUSES

After the meal, head for the village of Taboitien, the starting point for the flagship activity of the region: the descent of the Bandama aboard an artisanal pirogue to observe the famous hippopotamuses that populate the river. Around wild islets, seeing these colossi calmly emerge in their natural habitat remains a moment of pure magic, a spectacle as fascinating as it is impressive. This excursion also allows the discovery of a preserved ecosystem and the appreciation of the wild beauty of the Bandama.

BAAB’s advice: book your slot in advance with the boatman Yacinthe (05 55 38 78 50) or the guide (07 07 21 86 79). It is often crowded! Warning, the encounter with the hippos is never guaranteed, but the ride on the river remains magnificent.

SUNDAY MORNING: HIKING IN THE HEART OF STONE MYSTERIES

The next day, leave the banks to plunge 30 kilometers north of Tiassalé, toward the spectacular archaeological park of Ahouakro. Inscribed in 2006 on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage, this 120-hectare site, located at the forestsavannah edge, rises on a plateau of 300 to 500 meters in altitude. It is dominated by a chaotic ensemble of imposing magmatic and granitic megaliths older than two billion years. Sculpted by erosion, these giant blocks of several hundred cubic meters bear colorful local names attributed by locals and shelter unique prehistoric vestiges. A walking hike in the middle of these sacred rocks, which seem to hold in balance by a miracle, guarantees a total change of scenery.

BAAB’s advice: due to the highly sacred nature of the site, the visit is done only accompanied. Book with Raymond at 07 79 98 35 72.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON: DIVE INTO THE IVORIAN MEMORY

Before taking the road back to Abidjan, make a detour via Kanga Nianzé, about twelve kilometers from Tiassalé. This village occupies a special place in the history of the slave trade in Côte d’Ivoire. In colonial times, it constituted one of the last crossing points toward the coast for slaves coming from the North and neighboring countries. Thanks to the global UNESCO project, this site bears witness today to this painful past through a memorial stele. Nearby is also the sacred Bodo River. According to local traditions, slaves took a bath of forgetfulness there before their forced departure. This place loaded with memory remains today an important spiritual site for local populations.

BAAB’s advice: an authorized person must imperatively accompany you to tread the purifying banks of the Bodo River.

3 HOTELS, 3 ATMOSPHERES STAYING IN TIASSALÉ
