YOUR BAAB OF JUNE 2025

2025 #123

We’re almost there !

Have you noticed? In Babi, June has that special “almost there” feeling. The days stretch out gently. A strange kind of rhythm, as if time itself is slowing down. It’s not quite vacation yet, but you can feel it getting closer.

We find ourselves counting down: the days until the rainy season ends, the end of the school year for the little ones, or exam season for the older kids… and most of all, until that longawaited moment when we can finally unplug. Just a little more effort — we’re almost there!

In the meantime ? No sitting idle! As always, BAAB has put together a great selection to keep your days and nights full: new restaurants, brand-new lounges, movie outings, exhibition openings, and creative workshops… Plenty to fill your calendar and make time fly without even noticing !

And of course, a sweet thought for all the dads who’ll be celebrated on June 15.

Have a wonderful month. June promises to be gentle, vibrant, and full of life!

LA MAISON DU TCHEP

MONTH’S FAVORITE

Nestled in the heart of Plateau, La Maison du Tchep has just opened its doors, and it’s already capturing the hearts of African cuisine lovers. Here, Senegalese flavors take center stage, with the unmissable Tchep djenn — that fragrant, slow-cooked fish and rice dish, hearty and soulful, a true celebration of taste and tradition. Whether you call it tchep, thieb, or ceebu jën, what really matters is the feeling it evokes. It’s a dish that speaks to the heart, with its warming sauce diaga, comforting plates, and aromas of home, sunshine, and spice.

This is what La Maison du Tchep is all about: a warm, family-style experience, a sensory journey between memory and discovery. Here, tchep is reinvented, enriched, and open to global influences. It’s the true taste of Africa, in a welcoming space designed to make every meal feel like home.

POKE BOWL

THE FOOD TREND THAT FEELS GOOD

But more than just a passing trend, the Poke Bowl represents a new way of eating: fusioninspired, casual, and refreshingly light. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Colorful,

fresh, and perfectly Instagrammable, the Poke Bowl has become the go-to food trend of the moment. Originating from Hawaii, this complete dish — made with marinated raw fish, seasoned rice (or other grains), and a variety of toppings like crunchy veggies, seeds, or exotic fruits — has won over tables around the world.

What makes it so appealing? Its endless customizability. You can create your bowl however you like — with salmon, tuna, shrimp, tofu, or even grilled chicken for those hesitant about raw fish. Add some edamame, avocado, mango, a drizzle of soy or ponzu sauce, and you’re set. It ticks all the boxes: healthy, fast, balanced, eco-conscious, and visually appealing.

In Abidjan, several places are already riding the tropical wave, offering both classic and locally inspired versions. We’ve tried a few. Here are our favorites :

Honolulu Vegan Poke Bowl by Sam’s : Grilled tofu, avocado, cucumber noodles, fresh pineapple, nori, chuka wakame..

Zone 4, samsabidjan

Shrimp Bowl by West and Central : Shrimp, fonio, citrus, salsa, black beans, guacamole, lettuce, coconut milk sauce. Angré, westandcentralciv

Mamba Bowl by Africafé : Smoked chicken, fonio, avocado, fried plantains, mango, africafeabj

Beef Teriyaki Bowl by Sept Tables : Marinated beef, grilled broccoli, edamame, shredded carrots, rice, teriyaki sauce, sesame.

Zone 4, sept.tables.ci

L’Ivoirien by Le PoKe : Attiéké, seared tuna, green beans, tomatoes, radishes, quail egg, coriander. lepoke.ci

Energy Bowl by Delicity : Lentils, lettuce, sunflower seeds, chia, feta, smoked salmon, pomegranate, avocado.. Zone 4, delicityabidjan

SOCIAL INCONNUS

LET’S MEET AT THE TABLE !

“It doesn’t make sense to feel alone in a city full of people”… that’s where it all started.

n a world where we spend more time swiping than making eye contact, Social Inconnus offers a simple yet powerful idea: sharing a great meal to spark real human connections, far from screens and noise.

Launched a few years ago in Dakar, then in Abidjan, Social Inconnus is Africa’s first culinary meet-up community. The concept? Each week, strangers selected through a personality test gather at a cozy restaurant for a flavorful dinner… and genuine conversation.

There’s no pressure, just a chance to step out of your bubble, meet people with shared vibes, and enjoy a warm, friendly evening. The team handles everything: selecting the venue, welcoming guests with a host, and breaking the ice with fun games. And most of the time, something magical happens. People laugh, connect, and stay in touch — in fact, over 80% of participants remain connected after the dinner.

But Social Inconnus is just getting started. Building on this idea of human connection, the concept now includes outings, walks, sports activities, and even speed dating. It’s all about forming real communities, based on shared interests and curiosity.

So if you’re tired of dining alone, going out without meeting new faces, or simply crave real connection, give it a try. Sometimes, all it takes is saying yes to one dinner… for everything to begin.

LOUNGE BAR SPIRIT

NEW SPOTS TO DISCOVER

Dimmed lighting, perfectly shaken cocktails, curated playlists, and inspired design… Abidjan is embracing a growing lounge bar scene where sensory experience takes center stage. Gone are the days of loud nights at all costs: blending urban elegance with bold creativity, the Ivorian capital reveals a more laid-back, stylish — yet still vibrant — side to its nightlife.

The lounge bar spirit is a lifestyle : chill vibes, stylish settings, original cocktails, and sharp sounds. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

These are places where you go to unwind, chat, and enjoy good food… all with a perfectly crafted drink in hand. These hybrid venues — somewhere between signature bar, art gallery, and cultural space — value aesthetics and attention to detail just as much as atmosphere.

The cocktails ? Creative, often with an Ivorian twist, designed as true signature creations. The music ? Afro-house, amapiano, neo-soul, or minimal groove, carefully selected. The decor ? Rugs, soft lighting, natural materials, designer furniture — everything is crafted to offer a 360° immersive experience. Each neighborhood has its hidden gems : BAAB reveals the latest hot spots.

GONDWANA CLUB PULLMAN ABIDJAN

6 YEARS OF LAUGHTER, BOLDNESS & TALENT !

Six years ago, in May 2019, Mamane, a leading figure in African comedy and founder of Gondwana-City Productions, launched a crazy wager: to offer Abidjan a real Comedy Club worthy of the great capitals, a warm and demanding space open to all audiences, to celebrate laughter in all its forms. Six years later, the Gondwana Club has become the mustsee stand-up venue in French-speaking Africa.

Every Friday for the past six years, a concentrate of humor made in Africa ! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Housed in the elegant Pullman Hotel, Gondwana Club keeps its promise every Friday evening : a funny, creative and surprising show - sometimes piquant, often shocking... with laughter. It’s a place where families, couples and friends come to have fun together, forget the daily grind and discover the abundant wealth of Ivorian and African humor.

For six years, the big names have followed in their wake: Le Magnific, Boukary, Agalawal, Deperpignan, Joël, Prissk, Les Zinzins de l’Art,

to name but a few. And alongside them, young up-and-comers, the new voices of laughter, who come to try out their skills, test their pen and earn their first fees. Le Gondwana Club is a springboard for a whole generation of comedians who are finally respected for their art.

It’s also a place of artistic openness, where slammers, beat makers and DJs are regularly invited to thrill the audience with their razor-sharp lyrics. And what can we say about Willy Dumbo and Brice Anoh, who have long been the masters of ceremony at this temple of laughter, running the show with energy, style and complicity.

The secret ? An intimate setting, good light, good sound, a loyal audience, a constantly renewed program...and the Gondwana production teams. Every Friday for the past six years, the magic has been happening.

So yes, 6 years is no mean feat. It’s a great story, and it’s only the beginning. Happy birthday to Gondwana Club, Africa’s best comedy club - and thank you to all those who keep its heart beating every week !

FÊTE DE LA MUSIQUE AT THE IFCI

MULA AS GUEST STAR !

As per tradition, the IFCI will open its doors free of charge, offering exclusive live performances. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

On June 21, 2025, the Institut français de Côte d’Ivoire will come alive to the rhythms of rising Ivorian star Mula. Following past headliners like Youssoupha and Suspect 95, Mula takes the spotlight to celebrate Fête de la Musique in style. Now a must-attend event in Abidjan, the celebration highlights musical talent in a spirit of openness and festivity.

Revealed in 2020 with her breakout hit “Paradis”, Mula quickly made her mark with her distinctive voice and universe. She embodies a new wave of artists blending African roots with Afro-R&B and traditional vibes.

For this special evening, Mula will deliver an acoustic set, accompanied by live musicians (including kora and percussion players), as well as dancers. A performance crafted especially for the occasion.

Since its inception in France in 1982, Fête de la Musique has been celebrated globally each June 21. It promotes free, accessible music in streets and cultural venues alike — and the IFCI is proudly continuing the tradition in Abidjan.

The concert is free, but registration is required. Stay tuned to IFCI’s Facebook and Instagram pages for booking updates.

The balafon—a centuries-old instrument often confined to traditional ceremonies— finds fresh vitality in Neko Bala’s hands. He blends it seamlessly with global rhythms, afro-jazz, world-pop, and the most contemporary forms of African-inspired music. A masterful fusion, far from clichés, that expresses an evolving Côte d’Ivoire— deeply rooted yet wide open to the world.

PAPIER LIBRE

FOUR ARTISTS, ONE MATERIAL, FOUR LANGUAGES

Until June 28, 2025, the LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery presents “Papier Libre”, a group exhibition featuring works by Oumar Ball, Faten Rouissi, Christophe Sawadogo, and Éric Wonanu. Through a material as humble as it is essential—paper—these four African artists offer a sensitive, political, and poetic exploration of the contemporary world.

Whether soaked in ink, layered, cut, scratched, or assembled, paper here becomes a space of tension, reflection, and openness.

Sawadogo

In Papier Libre, paper is far more than a mere surface. It becomes an active agent of creation, a body of expression, and a field of experimentation. Each artist approaches paper with their own vocabulary, sensibility, and creative journey.

Christophe

Oumar Ball (Mauritania) combines paper with raw materials like wire and sheet metal to create hybrid works where light and emptiness sculpt an evolving identity, rooted in childhood and found materials.

Faten Rouissi (Tunisia) uses paper as a critical and political space. She captures the tensions of a society in transition, questioning power, memory, and public space through polymorphic works blending writing, performance, and installation.

With Christophe Sawadogo (Burkina Faso), paper becomes a dreamy and committed surface. His ink and pencil silhouettes address migration, resilience, and the human condition, in a world where delicate lines contrast with the weight of the subjects.

Lastly, Éric Wonanu (Togo) delves into stripped-down introspection. His series Involution of the Soul explores the psyche’s depths through erased words and folded bodies, where paper becomes the mirror of inner silence and fragmented memory.

ABIDJANITÉ 2

REFLECTIONS ON THE BEAUTY OF THE CAPITAL

Until June 29, 2025, Seen Hotel Abidjan is hosting Abidjanité 2, the second photography exhibition by Dave K Shot It. This artistic event invites visitors on a deeply personal, poetic, and human journey through Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital.

Abidjanité 2 aims to rekindle our connection with Abidjan, celebrate its spirit and people, and build a collective visual memory. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The word “Abidjanité,” rich in meaning, evokes a deep sense of belonging to this multifaceted city. From the bustling streets of Port-Bouët to the golden glow of the lagoon boulevard, from the busy markets of Adjamé to the serene heights of Cocody, the exhibited photos portray the city in all its raw beauty, complexity, and luminous contrasts.

This is more than a photography collection — it’s a visual and emotional journey blending dream, reality, and hope. Everyday scenes, sometimes ordinary, are elevated by shadow and color, transcending the real. The photographers’ gaze embraces both the grand urban landscapes and the overlooked details: faces, gestures, reflections. Using street photography, portraits, and urban compositions, Dave K Shot It offers a moving and honest mosaic of a city in motion.

A must-see to feel Abidjan differently.

NOT TO MISS THIS MONTH !

« Dehors » by Clentelex, June 29, 2025

With “Dehors”, Clentelex—an outspoken comedian known for his sharp wit—delivers one of his most personal projects to date. Written during a time of inner emptiness, this show was born from a moment of vulnerability, shared openly with his community. Over the course of eight intimate sessions, the artist listened, exchanged, laughed, and cried with his audience. From this collective experience emerged a piece that is both hilarious and deeply moving.

Through stories, confessions, and spot-on jokes, Clentelex bares his soul. He addresses depression, doubt, silence, but also the healing power of human connection. In “Dehors”, he isn’t just trying to be funny—he’s creating a space where laughter becomes an act of survival, resilience, and solidarity.

More than a one-man show, “Dehors” is a form of group therapy. A raw, unfiltered moment where we laugh at what hurts in order to move forward. It’s the story of an artist and his audience choosing together to turn pain into light..

SEX, LOVE AND MONEY

MOVIE OF THE MONTH

Abrilliant electronics genius and compulsive seducer, Axel hides a criminal life at the heart of a drug network. Torn between therapy, a complicated love story, suspicious traffickers, and a police force using him as an informant, he struggles to survive—caught between betrayal, redemption, and survival instinct.

BAAB Review :

“Sex, Love and Money” is a bold social drama by Owell Brown, taking us deep into Abidjan through the chaotic life of Axel (Olivier Kissita) and key characters like Hassane (Mouna Ndiaye), a drug queenpin, and Rudy (Assandé Fargass), a former warlord turned discreet crime boss. The film dives headfirst into the paradoxes of Ivorian youth, torn between survival, temptation, and the search for meaning.

The triptych of the title—sex, love, and money—is central to the narrative: sex as both urge and symptom of unease, love as fragile refuge, and money as the engine of systemic crime. With humor, social satire, and dramatic tension, the non-linear storytelling and flashbacks enrich the psychological depth of the characters.

Owell Brown offers a raw yet poetic look at Abidjan: its bars, its streets, and its nocturnal icons. The film explores deception, hidden identities, and the price of redemption in a world where the lines between good and evil, love and violence, are constantly blurred.

Rated 12+. Screening in Majestic theaters throughout June.

As Côte d’Ivoire’s leading platform for the promotion of Ivorian and West African brands and creatives (fashion, beauty, lifestyle, well-being, art...), The Expo aims to provide visibility for young designers and e-entrepreneurs, while encouraging Ivorians to consume more locally. Following the success of the first 5 editions, Le Sommet, the event’s organizing group, invites you to its 6th installment, on July 5 and 6. Book the weekend !

Although the cultural and creative industries (CCI) sector in Côte d’Ivoire is booming, it is clear that local brands and creators still suffer from a low level of awareness among the population, and are struggling to make their way into the market. DISCOVER THE ART OF…

PUNCH NEEDLE TAPESTRY WITH ATELIER BLAYO

Looking to explore a charming and original craft ? Come discover Punch Needle tapestry, a textured embroidery technique that blends tradition and creativity. An ancient art full of history and artistic potential, now brought to life by Atelier Blayo.

What is Punch Needle ?

Punch Needle is a form of relief embroidery that originated in the early 20th century in the United States, inspired by ancestral global techniques. It involves pushing thread through fabric to create loops on the reverse side, resulting in a signature raised effect. Widely used in the 19th and 20th centuries to decorate rugs, cushions, and other textiles, it’s now making a comeback in the world of creative hobbies.

Atelier Blayo—a leather goods workshop that also offers creative courses (crochet, embroidery, natural dyeing, peyote weaving, macramé...)—will guide you through a 3-hour introduction to Punch Needle: tool handling, thread selection, first motif creation, and tips to achieve a unique and creative look. CREATE YOUR VISION BOARD

WORKSHOP OF THE MONTH

Looking to give fresh energy to your dreams and goals? This month, BAAB invites you to its After Dream workshop—an evening of creativity, inspiration, and kindness, where you’ll design your very own vision board in a relaxed, feel-good atmosphere.

But what is a vision board ?

It’s a collage of images, photos, drawings, words, and anything else that inspires you. It visually represents your ideal life across different areas—career, passions, leisure, finances, relationships, personal growth, spirituality... By creating your board, you clarify what you truly want and reconnect with your deepest dreams.

The power of a vision board lies in its impact on your mind. Our brains respond strongly to imagery and positive thinking. Seeing what motivates you daily helps train your mindset to believe in your goals. This process shapes your attitude and everyday actions, pushing you step-by-step toward your aspirations.

Toast to your dreams, share your intentions, and leave with your personalized vision board in hand !

During the workshop, you’ll have access to a rich image library (career, hobbies, finance, spirituality, etc.), can bring your own photos (a printer is available!), and create a board that’s 100% you. All in a cozy setting with snacks, good conversations, and uplifting energy.

This twice-monthly gathering has become essential for women who want to slow down and reconnect with themselves. It offers moments of warmth and connection over tea or cocktails, in cozy, discreet spots across Abidjan such as Kiyani, Café Arlequin, Café Rimbaud, Gioia, Maize Bistro, or Villa Kalm. The idea is simple: create a bubble of calm in the middle of the chaos—an inviting space to breathe, listen, let go of worries, and chat freely with women going through similar experiences.

La Pause. is more than just “girl time.” It’s a suspended moment to share stories about life in Abidjan—our joys, challenges, and dreams. It’s a chance to soak up good vibes, laugh, feel seen and supported. Personal development activities are also offered to help every woman leave feeling recharged and inspired.

ISSIA THE SPIRITUAL PEARL OF HAUT-SASSANDRA

At the heart of the Boucle du cacao, Issia is a must for travelers in search of authenticity, spirituality and encounters. A cosmopolitan city, a mosaic of peoples and traditions, Issia’s energy, diversity and unsuspected treasures will win you over.

Issia is one of those towns that reveals itself to those who take the time to discover it.

The sanctuary at the foot of the rock

It’s impossible to talk about Issia without mentioning the Sanctuaire Notre-Dame de la Délivrance. Founded in 1990 at the foot of a majestic rock, this major pilgrimage site attracts thousands of devotees every year from all over Côte d’Ivoire and beyond (especially during major annual pilgrimages such as Mercy Sunday, Pentecost and the Assumption). People come here to pray, to draw from the reputedly miraculous spring, or simply to enjoy a moment of peace and meditation in the heart of verdant nature.

A lucky hill

Overlooking Issia, the Rock Hill rises to a height of almost 300 metres. To climb it, you need a lot of breath, but the reward is just as good: an exceptional panorama, and a local legend told by the elders, according to which certain stones are actually men turned into rocks. A place of walks, stories and spirituality, this hill is also home to the Marian Sanctuary.

The little dancers of Issia

Issia is also home to the little Bété dancers, true ambassadors of local culture. Founded in 1966, this troupe of young prodigies aged 7 to 15, decked out in kaolin and twigs, electrifies the crowds. Their performances, combining traditional choreography and acrobatics to the sound of drums and local songs, are a major attraction at local events. The talent of these dancers has crossed the country’s borders, making them a must-see cultural attraction.
