IF YOU’RE 19 OR OVER AND DON’T ALREADY HAVE QUALIFICATIONS AT LEVEL 2 OR LEVEL 3, YOU CAN ENROL ON ONE OF OUR B&FC LEVEL 2 OR 3 COURSES FOR FREE.

IF YOU HAVE A LEVEL 3 QUALIFICATION OR HIGHER BUT ARE UNEMPLOYED OR EARN BELOW THE NATIONAL LIVING WAGE (£18,525 from April 2022), YOU CAN ALSO ACCESS THESE QUALIFICATIONS FOR FREE REGARDLESS OF ANY QUALIFICATIONS YOU ALREADY HAVE.

ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN for Level 3 QUALIFICATIONS

If your circumstances mean you can’t access a fully funded qualification, you can still study with us and pay no upfront fees.

Getting an Advanced Learner Loan which covers your course fees, doesn’t depend on your household income and there’s no credit check.

There’s nothing to pay upfront and you don’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £27,2951 a year. Even then, you only pay back 9% of what you earn above this amount. After 30 years, even if you haven’t paid back the full amount, your loan is written off entirely.

What’s more, if you study an Access to HE course and then go on to do a degree, your Advanced Learner Loan is written off.

NAME: Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Social Science

Prior to starting my Access to HE course and due to circumstances beyond my control, I had lost my business and my income so understandably financial concerns were preying on my mind. I was worried that returning to education and purchasing any required resources would be additional burden. However, being able to get an Advanced Leaner Loan to pay for my tuition fees, a regular monthly bursary provided by the College and a free bus pass meant this was something I didn’t need to worry about.

As a mum of three and a wife, being able to study without worrying about finance was a huge weight off my shoulders and meant I could really concentrate on my coursework.

What’s more, as I decided to continue my education to degree level once I had completed my Access course, my Advanced Learner Loan has since been written off.

We have a wealth of experience teaching adult learners and can help you develop the study skills you need to support your success.

Our English courses will help you if you’re struggling to read and write. You’ll get all the support you need in a safe, welcoming and friendly space where everyone is encouraged to join in.

If you don’t get maths, you’re not alone. Our maths courses are for anyone who finds numbers baffling. You’ll get all the help you need to be confident using maths in everyday situations and at work.

Technology is everywhere these days, but that doesn’t mean you know how to use it. Our digital skills courses help you learn how to use a computer from switching one on to surfing the internet.

Our ESOL courses will give you all the language skills you need to communicate successfully in English to help you integrate into your local community and find work. We offer classes at all levels so you can be sure to find one that matches your experience.

Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas ideal for Upskilling and Reskilling

Our Level 2 and Level 3 diploma courses allow you to build specialist knowledge in a particular subject area with an emphasis on developing skills that are industry relevant to help you progress in your chosen career.

Our Level 2 courses, which take a year to complete and are equivalent to GCSEs, allow you to build strong foundational knowledge in your subject area before progressing onto a more challenging Level 3 course.

Level 3 courses are equivalent to 2 A levels and provide the employmentfocused skills and knowledge that can either boost your job prospects or lead to higher level study.

As well as our diploma programmes for adult learners, we offer a range of professional courses aimed at our commercial customers. These are designed to address training in specific industry sectors especially those which require businesses and their employees to have accredited training in particular tasks such as in automotive and construction. For example, we offer MOT testing courses, gas safety training and CENWAT courses to name just a few.

There are also commercial courses in sectors like hair and beauty where the introduction of new techniques and materials means that practitioners need regular training to be able to offer the latest treatments to clients.

You’ll also find that because our tutors have industry backgrounds, they understand the issues that are faced in the sector making them very responsive to the needs of course attendees.

Our Access to HE programmes are designed to provide a stepping stone to degree-level study and are especially geared up to adult learners who are returning to education after time away from the classroom. We currently offer two courses in this sector: one which covers food safety awareness and the other which covers customer service skills. Both are designed to give you ahead start when applying for entry level roles in the industry.

How do they work?

Apprenticeships suit people wanting to get a foot on the career ladder, earning a wage for doing a real full-time job. They also suit people who have already been working for a while, since they provide formal recognition of your knowledge and skills, helping you to move up the ranks. Assessment mostly takes place in the workplace. You’ll be working for 4 days a week, with 1 day a week spent doing ‘off-the-job’ training, such as shadowing a colleague or developing your skills at College.

A personalised programme

The great thing about a B&FC apprenticeship is that it’s personalised to you. When you start, we will allocate you a skills coach, who will visit you at least once a month to guide and support you through your programme and help you to plan for your future. We also provide specialist support for your English and maths and for any additional needs you make us

TRaineeships

If you’re aged 16-24, we might recommend you do a traineeship first. A traineeship helps you develop the skills and experience you need to become ‘work ready’. You’ll do a 100 hour industry placement with a local employer and spend time developing your English, maths and employability skills.

Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships

Choose from a wide range of Level 2 apprenticeships (equivalent to doing GCSEs) and Level 3 advanced apprenticeships (equivalent to doing A Levels).

are a high quality alternative to the traditional degree route, combining skilled on-the-job training with higher level study. They suit young people who want to start their career straight away as well as existing employees who want to progress.
