Welcome Welcome to the new look School of Creative Arts and Digital Industries. The School has returned from the summer break to stunning new resources in our iconic Art Deco building. Every room has been upgraded and reshaped so that our students benefit from large working spaces. The removal of suspended ceilings has revealed beautiful antique sky lights which allow natural light to flood through the art studios. In the basement we have housed our much envied printing presses in a brand new print studio. The introduction of new fashion and photography studios and the launch of a suite of new music studios and edit suites ensures a creative hub is alive and vibrant. The top floor sees new illustration and graphic studios with the addition of multi Mac suites to provide an industry standard working environment. The jewel in the crown is the creation of a digital drawing lab which places our courses at the centre of contemporary curriculum design. In preparation for industry our students can benefit from our new Design Pool and Enterprise Centre both of which enable students to accept commissions and work in a true commercial capacity.

As if that wasn’t enough... This autumn sees the launch of a range of economic courses, so if you ever wanted to learn the art of print making, creative embroidery, web design, and photography or try your hand at fashion or jewellery design then now is the time to develop your skills or try something new. Performing Arts and Media are also on offer with courses in acting for camera and film production. Start dates are from November onwards so please call 01253 504 343 for more information. As you can tell it has been a really busy and exciting few months with some great exhibitions and performances planned as we approach Christmas. So if you want to find out more, or just want to come and have a look around then please join us at our Open Evening 4pm – 7pm November 12th. Outstanding resources, outstanding teaching and outstanding results make the School of Creative Arts and Digital Industries the only place to study for a career in the creative sector.

McCoy Wynne: Coordinates 6th – 24th October University Centre Gallery The photographing of the landscape throughout the 20th century, both rural and urban, gradually turned away from romantic expressionism to objective record. Stephen McCoy and Stephanie Wynne, of the collaborative partnership McCoy Wynne, acknowledge the influence of New Topographics. Both in their commissioned assignments and in their independent work as artists, the picturing of place and its architecture is at the centre of their practice. Equipped with an appreciation of the work of earlier practitioners, as well as current digital photographic technology, they seek to expand the depiction of landscape.
Diorama: a séance of artists, summoning from Blackpool’s theatrical and performance archives lost theatres, dematerialised objects, promenades, spiritualist churches and beach entertainments. Diorama is an exhibition of work by Creative Arts staff and student alumni. University Centre Gallery A showcase exhibition which demonstrates the contribution of the college to the creative industries past and present. The work spans a range of media including courses in our current provision.
Enron is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD. Enron by Lucy Prebble is a modern fable set in the world of high finance and tells the tale of Enron President Jeffrey Schilling who presided over the rise of American powerhouse energy company Enron, described at the time as “The Most Innovative Company in the World”. Enron’s eventual collapse, at the time the biggest bankruptcy in the World, resulted in financiers and company board members receiving prison sentences of unprecedented lengths. A tragedy on both a personal and Global level, Enron treats a serious and relevant topic with creativity and innovation, resulting in one of the biggest theatrical successes of the last few years.

Hansel and Gretel : The Panto 3rd & 4th December 2.00pm & 7.30pm University Centre Theatre £4.00 / £5.00 The 2nd year performing arts students present their version of Hansel and Gretel in the form of a Panto this year. This is a tale of magic, candy houses and wicked witches. All the great humour and slapstick of a good panto with hilarious twists and turns.
The School of Creative Arts and Digital Industries are proud to present West Side Story. Against the backdrop of two warring new York city gangs- the Jets and the Sharks- two lovers, Tony & Maria meet and begin an intense love affair. But in 1950s New York gang warfare prevails and when a rumble under the highway goes terribly wrong, tragedy strikes, changing the paths of everyone’s’ lives forever. ‘West Side Story’ staged within the Blackpool Tower Ballroom is sure to entertain, excite and astonish!
