OUR MISSION

We exist to prevent commercial sexual exploitation in countries of origin.

We do this by building capacity among local volunteers to mobilize in the creation of zero tolerance zones. No to all forms of sexual violence, including prostitution, pornography creation and use, objectification and abuse. Not online. Not in person. No.

XOCHITL The image of our organization is Xochitl (so-chil), born to a single mom, living on her grandma’s property miles from the nearest school in rural Nicaragua.

She represents the vulnerable we seek to empower.

Protect Me Project tools are designed to be used in sensitive countries. They effectively express both compassion and proactive protection. As we begin to relate to friends in these nations we’re excited to adapt what works in new languages and spaces.

TOOLS WE USE Each of our tools for children has a facilitator’s guide for teaching the material according to developmental stages, in five visits. When only one visit is possible, a flyer is given to the students..

Graphic Novel (2-8 years)

ALL OF OUR TOOLS ADDRESS FOUR CORE ELEMENTS: 1. body awareness 2. emotional intelligence 3. human rights 4. healthy attachment Tools are translated and adapted to fit cultural and ethnic details.

PROTECT ME PROJECT TAKES ADOLESCENCE SERIOUSLY Because recruiters and traffickers understand adolescence to be a vulnerable period in our development, they target our tweens and adolescents. Especially online. For these and other reasons (see the flyer “Brain”) Protect Me Project has prepared thirteen different talks to promote successful adolescence.

Capacity Building includes textbook “The New Activist” and two phases of “basic training”.

BEFORE SERVING STUDENTS WE FIRST MEET WITH THEIR PARENTS AND TEACHERS

In English we offer Deep Dive courses on human trafficking and asset based community prevention.

Courses in Spanish include these, as well as positive parenting, healthy sexuality and successful adolescence.

FOUR YEAR COMPARISON We believe prevention occurs when capacity is built among local volunteers who then mobilize with strategic messages, creating ZERO TOLERANCE ZONES. Below, we’re excited to share the work these volunteers have done in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

HOW WE SPEND OUR MONEY As reflected in our budget, we prioritize printed materials which are distributed free of charge in most cases. Our next priority is resourcing our volunteers when they need help to mobilize. It is important to us that all stake holders have opportunity to invest, whether in talent, time or finances, allowing for sustainability.

This year we invested $115,133 in our prevention work. We encourage every volunteer to invest, as well. Together we can “get there before the trafficker”.
