Getting Started Locate your “AzPA 2024 Spring Clinical Details” email which provides you with the link to access Lecture Panda. Look for an email from noreply@lecturepanda.com for further instructions. Inside Lecture Panda The top left corner of the event you are in should read “AzPA 2024 Spring Clinical,” and there are 5 tabs running across the top of the screen. You will progress through each tab until you reach the end where you will submit all of your information: • Materials: Powerpoint slides will be posted here. • Information: This tab lists all of your personal registration information. Double check your information to make sure it is
correct. If you make any changes be sure to hit the blue [Save Changes] button at the bottom of the screen.

SPEAKER BIOS Lyndy Abdelsayed, PharmD Candidate Lyndy is a final-year pharmacy student at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy in Glendale, AZ. She began her academic career with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science at the University of California, Davis, before transitioning to Arizona to pursue pharmacy. Throughout her time in pharmacy school, Lyndy has been an active contributor to the Arizona Pharmacy Association (AzPA). She served as the AzPA student chapter Chair and is currently a member of the AzPA Class of 2024 Legacy Interns. Complementing her academic pursuits, Lyndy works as a Pharmacy Intern at a local community hospital, gaining valuable hands-on experience in clinical settings. Eager to advance her expertise, she is currently pursuing a PGY-1 residency, embodying a commitment to lifelong learning and making significant contributions to the evolving landscape of pharmacy. Matthew Alvarado, CPhT, CSPT Matthew is an Associate Manager of Pharmacy Technicians at Banner Gateway Medical Center with 10 years of experience as a pharmacy technician both in the retail and acute care setting. Matthew’s current role is to develop, implement, and oversee daily operations of the pharmacy as well as lead technicians while supporting their growth and development within their careers. Prior to this role, Matthew held the position of Pharmacy Analyst for the Banner Health system with an emphasis on controlled substance diversion and best practice. Matthew continuously seeks opportunities to learn and grow. He currently holds the following PTCB specialty certifications: Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Certificate, Compounded Sterile Preparation Certification, and Medication History Certification. His passion Is working together with others and contributing to the expansion of the pharmacy field. Matthew is a proven mentor as shown in his collaboration with many students aiding in their development withing the field of pharmacy. Daniel Bell, PharmD, BA, BCPS Daniel received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University College of Pharmacy-Glendale. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy residency at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ, where he now serves as the Residency Program Director. He has been in pharmacy leadership for 4 years and been precepting students and residents for 5 years. His practice interests include infectious disease, oncology, leadership development and precepting.
Jeffrey Bezard, PharmD Jeffrey is a passionate pharmacist currently completing a Community Based Residency program with Walgreens & Midwestern University College of Pharmacy-Glendale. His employment with Walgreens began in 2016 as a pharmacy technician in training. His current duties include staffing a Community Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy which primarily services HIV treatment and prevention, acting in the capacity of a visiting instructor with Midwestern University, and training in ambulatory care with VillageMD. He is highly passionate about increasing access to healthcare for Americans, particularly medically underserved populations. His greatest areas of interest in pharmacy include psychiatric pharmacy, medication therapy management, and specialty pharmacy.

SPEAKER BIOS Rosemary Browne, MD, FACP, AGSF Dr. Browne earned her BS magna cum laude from Georgetown University, pursued her MD at the University of Connecticut (UCT) School of Medicine. Board certified through ABIM in both Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, she completed her Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at UCT School of Medicine, followed by Fellowship Training at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. With 17 years of expertise in geriatric medicine, she has contributed significantly as an Associate Professor of Medicine at UA College of Medicine and received the Geriatrician of the Year Award from the Arizona Geriatrics Society.
Melinda J. Burnworth, PharmD, FASHP, FAzPA, BCPS Melinda graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Pharmacy and is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy-Glendale, specializing in adult internal medicine. She is involved with teaching several hospital-based courses at the University and an elective course called Rare and Interesting Diseases. She has special interests in rare diseases, efforts to minimize drug shortages, political advocacy, student mentorship, preceptor development, and women in pharmacy leadership. Burnworth is actively involved with the Arizona Pharmacy Association Health-System SIG, American Society of HealthSystem Pharmacists, and National Organization for Rare Disorders.
Victor Camargo, PharmD Victor graduated from Midwestern University College of Pharmacy – Downers Grove. He completed a PGY-1 community-based residency with Albertsons Companies in Phoenix, AZ. He is currently serving as a pharmacist with Albertsons Companies, while precepting and assisting with various areas of their residency program. His areas of interest include chronic disease management and academia. He is currently a member of the Arizona Pharmacy Association and American Pharmacists Association.
Lauren Campisi, PharmD Lauren is the PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Resident and completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy residency at Phoenix Children’s in Phoenix, Arizona. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Auburn University’s Harrison College of Pharmacy in Auburn, Alabama. Her primary areas of interest are pediatric critical care and emergency medicine.

SPEAKER BIOS Monique Cazares, PharmD Candidate Monique is a 2024 PharmD candidate at the University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy in Tucson Arizona. Throughout her time in pharmacy school, Monique has been an active student volunteering and expanding her knowledge and role in leadership through organizational involvement. During her first year in pharmacy school, Monique joined the Rural Health Professions Program that allowed her to gain life changing experiences within the underserved communities that exist in our very own state of Arizona. Her experiences that the RHPP program has provided and her experiences as an intern at Walgreens Pharmacy have inspired her to pursue a PGY-1 residency. She looks forward to one day joining her future colleagues in eliminating disparities in healthcare and providing quality health for all.
Courtney Cianci, PharmD Candidate Courtney is a final-year pharmacy student at Midwestern University College of PharmacyGlendale, Arizona. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Arizona. Courtney worked as a community pharmacy intern for one year at Fry’s Food and Drug Store in Mesa, AZ, and is currently an inpatient pharmacy intern at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Phoenix, AZ. Courtney is pursuing a PGY1 pharmacy residency program upon graduation and hopes to enhance her skills as a pharmacist to provide the highest level of patient care. Throughout her time as a pharmacy student, Courtney has been very involved with the Arizona Pharmacy Association (AzPA). She is also involved on the national level with the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) and was recently recognized at the annual meeting with the President’s Standing Ovation Award. Courtney has experience working as an instructional assistant at Grand Canyon University and as a tutor/lecture reviewer for courses at Midwestern University. Michael Constant, PharmD Michael is a recent PharmD graduate of the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He has worked in pharmacy for over a decade now starting as a technician at CVS and now a PGY1 Community-Based Resident with Safeway in Phoenix, Arizona. Before attending pharmacy school, he received my bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. His areas of interest include ambulatory care, mental health, and academia. Following his PGY1, he intends to pursue a PGY2 in Ambulatory Care. When he is not working in health care, you can find him hiking, going to the gym, or attending a concert!
Brandy DeChellis, PharmD Brandy is a dedicated and compassionate healthcare professional with a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes and delivering high-quality care. With 15 years’ experience in the healthcare industry, she has established herself within the community, specialty, oncology and pediatric space as a trusted healthcare provider. As a Manager, East Valley Pharmacy Services with Phoenix Children’s she plays a pivotal role in optimizing operational and clinical workflows. She is currently overseeing the expansion projects for both East and West Valley hospitals and recently received a recognition for process improvements. Additionally, she is leading an organizational project to further develop dose range checking parameters for pediatric orders and hands-on CODE training for pharmacists. Brandy holds a B.S in Microbiology/Biochemistry from Penn State University and a PharmD from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a Certified Specialty Pharmacist and recently completed ASHP’s Pediatric Certificate. As a healthcare leader, she remains committed to providing the highest standards of care, advocating for patient rights, and contributing to the advancement of healthcare practices. In her downtime, she enjoys outdoor activities with her husband and 11 children and volunteering for the American Cancer Society.
SPEAKER BIOS Janelle Duran, PharmD, BCPS After completion of her pharmacy practice residency Janelle was employed at Scottsdale Healthcare, now HonorHealth, from 2000 to early 2014. During her 14 years at Scottsdale Healthcare Janelle’s role evolved from staff pharmacist to clinical pharmacist and lastly to clinical coordinator. In March 2014, Janelle embraced the opportunity to serve Dignity Health as the system pharmacy administrator for a 38 hospital system. As pharmacy administrator Janelle facilitated evidence based medication utilization with decreased practice variation through support of the development of a System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and development of integration of system medication management decisions within the Dignity Health electronic healthcare record (EHR). Through this effort system policy work related to antimicrobial stewardship, system formulary, quality and nursing workflow were achieved. With the merger of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health into CommonSpirit Health, a 140+ hospital system in 2019, Janelle’s role evolved to her current title, system manager of clinical pharmacy services. At CommonSpirit Health Janelle facilitates multiple system teams to support the development of system guidelines and provide system-level oversight of the formulary program at CommonSpirit Health. Janelle collaborates with system and divisional leaders and others to develop medication-related policies, procedures, guidelines, best practices, and communication strategies to ensure evidence-based, best practices that are cost-effective, standardized and align with system medication-related quality and safety goals. Christopher J Edwards, PharmD, BCPS, FASHP Chris is an assistant professor with the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and a clinical assistant professor with the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine. After completing PGY1 and PGY2 residency training with the University of Arizona, Chris worked as a clinical pharmacist in the emergency department of Banner University Medical Center - Tucson (BUMCT) then as a senior manager of clinical pharmacy services with BUMCT before moving into a faculty role with the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy in 2018. Chris has serves as a clinical preceptor for pharmacy and medical resident and student rotations in emergency medicine and has served as a research mentor for a number of resident and student projects. As a faculty member, he maintains a clinical practice in the emergency department at BUMCT, coordinates a pharmacotherapeutics course for second year pharmacy students, a pharmacy management course for third year pharmacy students, and performs research on pharmacy practice in emergency medicine. Chris currently serves as a Chair of the Board of Pharmacy Specialists Council on Emergency Medicine, as a delegate to the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacy’s House of Delegates, as Director of Health Systems Pharmacy for the Arizona Pharmacy Association, and as a technical editor for The American Board of Emergency Medicine’s MyEMCert Key Advances Panel. He has published a number of peer reviewed articles, book chapters, and serves as co-editor of ASHP’s Basic Skills for Interpreting Laboratory Values textbook.
Kelly Erdos, PharmD, BCACP, CACP Kelly is a pharmacist and educator known for her dedication to patient care and the pharmacy profession. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Kelly completed her undergraduate work and then Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Arizona. She then completed a pharmacy practice residency in acute care in 2010 and became a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist in 2013. Kelly embarked on a successful career in ambulatory care pharmacy and served as a residency preceptor for 11 years before transitioning back into acute care. She currently serves as the Residency Program Director and Clinical Coordinator at Banner Baywood Medical Center and Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa. Outside of pharmacy, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband Chris, and their 9-year old daughter, Aubrey. They enjoy off-roading, traveling, and playing with their two dogs. She is known for her dedication to precepting, love of learning, and desire to help others.

SPEAKER BIOS Dawn Gerber, PharmD, BCGP, FASCP, FAzPA Dawn is an associate professor of pharmacy practice at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy-Glendale, Arizona, earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. She completed a residency in Pharmacy Practice at the Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Gerber is a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (BCGP) and recognized as Fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) and Arizona Pharmacy Association (AzPA). For 17 years she practiced geriatric pharmacy as Banner Health Center, Peoria, Az, providing polypharmacy and anticoagulation services. She collaborates with the Banner Geriatric Medical Fellowship Multidisciplinary Rounds. She teaches geriatric pharmacotherapy topics and the required Complementary and Alternative Medicine course. She has held geriatric leadership positions with ASCP, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and AzPA. She is a Pharmacy Residency Accreditation Practitioner Surveyor with ASHP. Mikayla Gerdes, PharmD Candidate Mikayla is a P4 PharmD Candidate at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology, as well as her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science at the University of Arizona. Mikayla was drawn to pharmacy practice after her employment at the Phoenix Zoo and learning about the utility of pharmacy practices in exotic animal husbandry. As a pharmacy student and Clinical Pharmacist Intern at Tucson Medical Center, Mikayla has garnered a strong passion for patient care in the critical care sector. Mikayla also possesses an innate desire for pharmacy leadership, stemming from her organizational involvement, including serving as a 2024 AzPA Legacy Intern. She is currently pursuing a PGY-1 residency at an academic medical center with the intent to later pursue a PGY-2 in critical care pharmacy. Her mission through residency training is to provide exceptional patient care, improve pharmacy institutional practices, and drive policy change at both regional and national levels.
Holly L. Geyer, MD Holly is an Associate Professor of Medicine and consultant in the Division of Hospital Internal Medicine. She is dual board certified in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine and serves as the physician lead of the Opioid Stewardship Program at Mayo Clinic in Arizona as well as serving as Medical Director of Occupational Health. She is the author of the leading patient education book on pain and opioids, “Ending the Crisis: Mayo Clinic’s Guide to Opioid Addiction and Safe Opioid Use.” Dr. Geyer’s research focuses on safe use of opioids and the impact of various treatment regimens on patient quality of life, particularly in cancer populations. She presents internationally and has authored more than 120 journal articles, book chapters and abstracts. In addition to being a reviewer for a number of prominent scientific journals, she has been active in opioid-related policy formation and advocacy at a state and federal level. She works closely with a number of national organizations on opioid related efforts including the American Hospital Association (AHA), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the National Football League Alumni Association and others. Monica Heberling, PharmD Monica is a pharmacy site manager for Walgreens Community Specialty Pharmacy and adjunct faculty at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy – Glendale. She earned her Pharmacy Doctorate from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2012. She has been the site director and preceptor for the PGY-1 Community based pharmacy residency program with Walgreens and Midwestern University for 5 years and a Community Partner teaching the Professional Skills Development workshop at Midwestern University for 4 years.

SPEAKER BIOS Jasmina Hukic, PharmD Candidate Jasmina is a dedicated and accomplished professional with a foundation in the field of healthcare. Having earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Boise State University, she is currently a final-year pharmacy student at Midwestern University. Jasmina has actively engaged with the pharmacy profession throughout her academic journey, showcasing her leadership skills as the annual convention chair for the Arizona Pharmacy Association student chapter. Her commitment to the field extends beyond her academic responsibilities, as she continues to contribute to the Arizona Pharmacy Association as a legacy intern. J'kiya Jackson, PharmD J'kiya is a native of Prentiss, Mississippi. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from William Carey University in 2017 and her Pharm.D. from South University School of Pharmacy in 2023. While in pharmacy school, she interned with Kroger's Pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia. She was also active in the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Rho-Chi honor society. She is interested in ambulatory care pharmacy and community pharmacy. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, attending football games, and spending time with friends and family.
Christi Jen, PharmD, BCPS, BCEMP, FASHP, FAzPA Christi is the Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Mayo Clinic Arizona since 2021. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, Dr. Jen served as a Clinical Manager for 2 years and an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist for over 11 years. Dr. Jen currently serves as ASHP’s Immediate Past Chair for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists and in various capacities in its Section Advisory Groups and Council on Therapeutics. She has presented both locally and nationally on various topics pertaining to emergency medicine, disaster preparedness, opioid stewardship and preceptor development to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel.
Kimberly Johnson, PharmD Kimberly graduated from Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ in 2019 and completed her PGY-1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency with Mercer University and Kroger Health in Atlanta, GA in 2020. SPEAKER BIOS Michaela Konecnik, PharmD Michaela is the PGY-1 Residency Program Director and Clinical Coordinator at Banner – University Medical Center South in Tucson, AZ. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2013 from the University of Arizona and completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency in 2014 at the University of Arizona Medical Center. Michaela worked as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Internal Medicine for 7 years and served as a primary preceptor for pharmacy residents and pharmacy students prior to her current role. She holds her Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy.
Jacob Lahti, BS, CMD Jacob holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Grand Canyon University and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the same institution, showcasing a dedication to both the life sciences and business management. He is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist.
Kimberly Langley, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, CPBPM Kimberly is the Chief Financial Officer for the DoD Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization office responsible for implementing a single, common federal electronic health record system for Department of Defense, Department of Veteran Affairs, Department of Homeland Security, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. CAPT Langley is a pharmacist in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps and has been on continuous active duty since 2009. She has completed previous USPHS assignments at multiple duty stations across New Mexico and Arizona with Indian Health Service. During this time, CAPT Langley served in several diverse leadership positions including Pharmacy Manager, PGY-1 Residency Program Director, Cardiovascular Clinic Director, and IHS Agency- Representative to the Million Hearts Initiative. In 2015, CAPT Langley served as the Chief Pharmacy Officer for her team in Liberia as a part of the Ebola crisis response in West Africa. CAPT Langley holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Georgia Southern University; a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Medical University of South Carolina; a Master of Business Administration from The Citadel; and completed a Certificate in Business Process Management from Villanova University. She is also board-certified in Pharmacotherapy and served on multiple technical expert panels for Pharmacy Quality Alliance for the development of cardiovascular and diabetes quality measures. SPEAKER BIOS Catherine Lavinge, JD Katie advises a range of healthcare clients on regulatory and compliance issues. Katie's work also involves advising pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), insurance carrier and third-party administrator clients. She has experience with credit card compliance, program audits, federal and state health care laws and regulations, and Medicare Part D pharmacy benefits.
Anna Legreid Dopp, PharmD, CPHQ Anna is Senior Director, Government Relations at ASHP. In this role she works on state and national policy efforts and collaborates with the National Academy of Medicine, National Quality Forum, The Joint Commission, and the Pharmacy Quality Alliance on quality improvement initiatives. In 2008, she served as a Congressional Health Care Policy Fellow, where she worked on health and social policy in the office of Senator Joe Lieberman. Subsequent to the fellowship, she served in roles at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics as a medication use policy analyst and at the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin as the Vice President of Public Affairs and editor of the Journal of the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin. Dr. Legreid Dopp completed a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2002 from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy in Minneapolis. She is a certified professional in healthcare quality.
Christina Meridew, PharmD Candidate Christina is a 2024 PharmD candidate at the University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy. Christina received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science with a minor in Psychology from the University of Arizona. During her undergraduate career, she volunteered in multiple research labs with a patient care component. This experience led her to desire a career focused on direct patient care. Her experiences as a pharmacist intern at Walgreens and Banner University Medical Center have inspired her to pursue a PGY-1 residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care. She is looking forward to a career centered around empowering the community and improving health outcomes through education.
Roger Morris, RPh, JD Roger represents pharmacies and related health care entities in a wide variety of regulatory compliance and transactional matters. A practicing pharmacist before becoming a lawyer more than 30 years ago, Roger brings deep experience in the pharmacy industry to the work he does for retail pharmacies (including mail order), pharmacy wholesalers, compounding pharmacies, veterinary pharmacies, pharmacy benefit managers (PBM), pharmaceutical manufacturers and health care providers, including hospitals, health systems and medical staff. He also has experience in the highly innovative telemedicine and telepharmacy sectors, assisting clients with the unique state and federal regulatory compliance issues they face, as well as acquisitions and the creation of and construction of facilities. Knowing the pharmacy world as he does – its language, business models and practices, and industry actors – Roger is able to combine uncommon industry insight with deep knowledge of his client’s businesses to address their legal and business needs.

SPEAKER BIOS Bradley Nash, BS Biochemistry, PharmD Bradley received her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Arizona in Tucson and went on to complete her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Emergency Medicine Residency at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, KS. Upon completion of residency, she practiced at a pediatric level I trauma center where she gained experience in pediatric cardiovascular intensive care and emergency medicine. She has since transitioned to a role as an Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Specialist at an adult level I trauma center in the Phoenix area. She enjoys the variety of disease states encountered and the fast-paced environment of the emergency department.
Amy Nguyen, PharmD, BCPPS Amy has practiced in pediatrics for 6 years (5 years at Phoenix Children’s and 1 year at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital). Amy’s primary areas of practice within pediatrics are critical care and hematology/oncology. She completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice residency at Tucson Medical Center and PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy residency at University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy. Tran Nguyen, PharmD, BCPPS Tran has practiced as a pediatric clinical pharmacist in cardiovascular intensive care unit for 2 years at Phoenix Children’s after completing her PGY-1 and PGY-2 (focused in pediatrics) at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.
Walter Nieri, MD Dr. Nieri is the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, bringing a wealth of expertise and dedication to the field. A graduate of Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, he completed his internship at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital and residency at Mercy Hospital. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Certified Medical Director for Long Term Care and Hospice, Dr. Nieri is passionate about promoting the principles of geriatric medicine and training physicians to deliver quality care. His extensive experience, spanning from serving as the program director for the Family Medicine Geriatrics Program at Banner Boswell from 1997 to 2020, showcases his commitment to advancing geriatric care. Currently, as the associate program director for the combined Geriatrics Fellowship Program, Dr. Nieri continues to contribute his leadership, foundation, and knowledge to enhance the overall program.

SPEAKER BIOS Daniel Otis, PharmD
Daniel is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University-Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology. More recently, Daniel graduated with a Pharm.D. from Midwestern University, College of Pharmacy – Glendale. He is now the PGY-1 resident for the Fry’s Pharmacy and Midwestern University College of Pharmacy Community-Based Pharmacy residency program. Daniel has a background in education and hopes to utilize that passion in his interactions with both students and patients.
Pranav Pillai, MD Pranav earned his MBBS (MD) from Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai, India, and completed his Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Louisville, KY. He is ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine and is currently a fellow in the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.
John Robinson, PharmD, BCCCP John is a board-certified critical care pharmacy specialist at Mayo Clinic Arizona. He graduated from the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy in 2017. He completed his PGY1 training at Charleston Area Medical Center and PGY2 critical care residency at Nebraska Medicine. After residency, he worked as a Critical Care Pharmacy Specialist at Kingman Regional Medical Center for 3 years prior to starting his current role at Mayo Clinic in late 2022.
Nick Ruiz, CPhT-Adv, CSPT, FAPC Nick currently holds the position of Associate Manager, Pharmacy Technician at Banner University Medical Center – Phoenix. Nick has been practicing as a pharmacy technician for more than 12 years, with many of those years focusing in sterile and non-sterile compounding. Nick has a passion for pharmacy regulatory compliance and the promotes technician advancement. Nick showcases his commitment to the pharmacy field by earning his Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician. He holds the following PTCB specialty certifications: Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT), Medication History, Regulatory Compliance, and Immunization Administration. Nick is also a certified sterile compounding and aseptic technique (SCAT) instructor through Austin Community College. In 2023, Nick had the honor of being inducted as a Fellow of the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding. SPEAKER BIOS Samantha Russell, MD Samantha is an alumna of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson, graduating in 2019. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Arizona Internal Medicine Residency Program on the Tucson Campus from 2019 to 2022. Dr. Russell earned the Chief Resident honor during the 2022-2023 academic year, showcasing her exceptional dedication and leadership within the University of Arizona Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Jacob Schwarz, PharmD, MBA, BCIDP, BCCCP, BCPS, FAzPA Jake graduated from the University of Arizona-College of Pharmacy in 2010 and then went on to complete a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency in Lakeland, FL. Jake returned back to Phoenix and practiced at Phoenix Children’s Hospital prior to taking a clinical pharmacist position at Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he worked for over 9 years in various positions including serving as the PGY-1 Residency Program Director and Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator for over 7 at Yuma Regional Medical Center for over 7 years before recently accepting a position as an ICU Pharmacist at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Along the way Jake has attained board certifications in Pharmacotherapy, Critical Care, and Infectious Diseases. Jake also graduated with a Master of Business Administration with healthcare administration focus from the University of Massachusetts in Spring of 2021. Along with constantly learning for himself, Jake has also been active in the education of healthcare professionals throughout his career. He has been an IPPE and APPE preceptor multiple Colleges of Pharmacy, including UofA, Midwestern, Purdue, and Drake University. Kristine Smith, B.S., CPhT-Adv, CSPT Kristine is a Director of Pharmacy Technicians at Banner Health with 13 years of experience practicing as a pharmacy technician in the acute care setting. During her initial years in pharmacy, she attended the University of Arizona and earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration. Prior to her current role, Kristine led Pharmacy Technician teams at several hospitals in Banner Health. She is a proven leader who now supports pharmacy teams across 30 acute care facilities through education and development, technology advancement and optimization, and billing practices. Kristine has earned her Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification. She holds the following PTCB specialty certifications: Technician Product Verification Certificate, Hazardous Drug Management Certificate, Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Certificate, and Compounded Sterile Preparation Certification. Kristine is a committed leader who inspires technicians to continue to grow within their careers. To promote career growth, Kristine has implemented a Pharmacy Technician Training Program to educate non-certified pharmacy technicians and prepare them for the national certification exam. She has also expanded technician roles to create a career pathway for growth utilizing the specialized skills of the Pharmacy Technician. SPEAKER BIOS Bailey Walden, JD Bailey helps clients with health care transactions and regulatory and compliance matters. Her experience includes telemedicine regulations, corrective action and peer review, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), federal and state pharmaceutical laws and regulations, Medicare conditions of participation and issues related to COVID-19. Bailey’s clients include hospitals and hospital systems, practitioners, pharmacies, and prescription drug distributors. Bailey advises on provider licensure and credentialing, including disaster and emergency practitioner privileging in light of COVID-19; handles Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) blanket waivers for hospitals, critical access hospitals and health systems, including but not limited to telehealth, EMTALA and privileging waivers; counsels on provisions of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and Families First Response Act (FFRCA) that impact hospitals and health systems; guides clients on DEA requirements for controlled substance distribution and prescription dispensing; and ensures compliance with The Joint Commission Accreditation Standards.
