“Anyone would agree that COVID-19 has taught us that we should never take anything for granted,” said Roy Dowse, Operations Manager of Roofing Southwest in Tucson. “In the beginning of this pandemic outbreak, the fear of the unknown is what affected every person out there, which in return affected businesses as well.

Our people are what make the difference and have allowed us to weather the storm together” – Roy Dowse

“People were scared to show up to work or simply go out in public. However, Roofing Southwest was quick to implement new means and methods to keep our employees and customers safe. We adapted to the pandemic quickly as we already had virtual meeting platforms in place. We are fortunate to have a great team of leaders that were able to provide the resources for all of us to succeed during this time.”

Roofing Southwest has been an AMA member for more than two decades, but its affiliation extends beyond that. Roofing Southwest was founded in Phoenix in 1971; it has worked alongside the association since its founding.

“The best part of being a member of AMA are the relationships we have built along the way, both with other industry professionals and property management companies,” Dowse said. “As a Patron Member, we have been able to grow life-long relationships with various professionals in the state, bringing in new business opportunities which have allowed our company to grow.”“

How has Roofing Southwest weathered the COVID-19 storm? Dowse said COVID-19 has brought on a variety of challenges that no one is a stranger to. “Our people are what make the difference and have allowed us to weather the storm together,” he said. “Our team members are devoted, loyal, honest, fun loving, team players, humble, grateful, and care about the end product and the process to get there. Their trust in the company accompanied with their hard work, grit, and perseverance have kept as going. We couldn’t be more thankful for our team of experts that give their all, day in and day out.”

“The best part of being a member of AMA are the relationships we have built along the way, both with other industry professionals and property management companies,”

Industry groups are vital to the success of any business. How has Roofing Southwest leveraged it standing in the Arizona multifamily community through its membership in AMA?

“By utilizing the relationships we have built to host socially distanced meetings. By utilizing the relationships we have built to create new relationships. By utilizing the association membership directly to make introductions and offer help where people need it in a variety of capacities, both personal and professional,” Dowse said.

Multifamily continues to be one of the hottest property types in Arizona. How has Roofing Southwest benefited?

“Nobody likes a leaking roof, and maybe even worse than that, no property management company want calls from an angry tenant (or owner) about a leaking roof,” Dowse said. “Even during one of the driest summers on record in Arizona, buildings still have leaks. So, the need is there.

“I think Roofing Southwest benefits more because of our ability to mobilize, responding to leak calls quickly, being efficient in our

timeliness of inspecting and getting a proposal back to the propertymanagers, and then performing the work of a quality install. Thereare so many roofing companies out there, but our ability to performat such an elite level is what benefits us the most.”

What does it mean personally to Dowse to be a member of AMA?

“It means that I get the opportunity to help our industry partners withtheir roofing needs and nothing makes me happier than solving aroof problem for someone and hearing how gratified they are whenthey have “No Leaks.”
