Women film-makers are the stars of the 2022 audiovisual programme
This year’s film programme focuses on the work of film-makers with different professional careers. In contemporary audiovisual production, the presence of women film-makers who tackle all genres and whose interpretation of the world, way of comprehending it and their proposals for improvement stand out as being of essential transcendence. The Zinemateka programme opens in January with a cycle dedicated to Iciar Bollaín, as the paradigm of a generation of women directors who made a breakthrough whereby Spanish film acquired a transnational character. The second cycle focuses on new films directed by women with a selection of films by women film-makers whose first feature films brought them public recognition likewise from the juries of the most important film festivals. Furthermore, audiovisual enters the exhibition hall in full force in 2022, connecting Zinemateka with the project ‘Somewhere from here to heaven’, curated by film curator Garbiñe Ortega. This exhibition, to be inaugurated in October, begins with works by Bruce Baillie, one of the most influential filmmakers of the North American film avantgarde and promoter of experimental film. The programme is completed with Zinemaz blai – Eskolatik zinemara a new mediation programme aimed at school students, resulting from the collaboration between Golem Alhóndiga multiplex cinemas and Azkuna Zentroa. This audiovisual production cycle is aimed as a tool to educate and foster critical thought.
