CHARTING THE NEXT DECADE OF ANIMAL WELFARE IN ARIZONA Ten years ago, many of you helped us launch an ambitious plan to transform animal welfare, culminating in the opening of our Rob & Melani Walton Papago Park Campus. NOW, WE ASK, WHAT’S NEXT? We’re excited to share a preview of our 10Year Vision Roadmap, which charts a bold path forward, guiding us as we continue to serve the Valley’s most vulnerable pets and the people who love them. This vision focuses on five core pillars: • Expanding physical capacity to meet the needs of our growing community • Increasing access to veterinary care to keep pets in homes and out of shelters • Growing targeted spay/neuter efforts to prevent suffering before it starts • Engaging, educating and advocating to bond pets and people • Strengthening our people and operational excellence to deliver sustainable impact

It’s not just a plan — it’s a promise to ensure every pet has a voice, a place and a future. We’re already putting this vision into motion by maximizing our current campuses, opening the remodeled Marge Wright Veterinary Clinic at our Sunnyslope Campus and launching after-hours Urgent Care at our Papago Park Campus. We’re expanding our operations to serve more pets and people, increasing efficiency, and planning for long-term sustainability — all while dreaming bigger for tomorrow. As the Valley continues to grow, so does our commitment to meeting its needs with heart, innovation and purpose. We couldn’t take this next step without you. Your generosity fuels our mission.

ONLINE VETERINARY CARE WHEN IT MATTERS MOST We’re proud to be the first animal welfare organization to offer online veterinary services, made possible by a special donation by the Patricia L. Fontana Family. Providing remote veterinary care in a timely manner supports our efforts to keep pets in loving homes and out of shelters in the first place. Whether it’s long wait times for in-person appointments, challenges transporting a pet or mobility issues faced by pet owners, online veterinary services play a vital role in removing barriers and expanding access to care. Without this program, Sherman’s urinary tract infection (UTI) symptoms would have persisted until an in-person vet appointment became available. To avoid prolonging the 10-year-old Dachshund’s discomfort, Sherman’s owner booked a convenient video call with one of our veterinarians to get her pup on the road to recovery.

4 | PAW P R I N T S

“The video call was easy to navigate, and the vet made me feel comfortable knowing Sherman’s health was a priority,” said Sherman’s owner, Shelby. “The online visit was affordable, time efficient and I was able to pick up Sherman’s prescription the same day! I am so thankful that this service is available through the Arizona Humane Society, and I would use it again in the future, if needed!” Perfect for non-emergent conditions like UTIs, skin rashes, lethargy, limping and more, our online veterinary services connect pet parents with trusted veterinarians who are committed to delivering compassionate, expert care. Schedule your appointment today at azhumane.org/online-vet-care.

“JERRY’S LAW” NOW SAVING PETS ACROSS ARIZONA It’s official! SB1658, a groundbreaking animal anti-cruelty bill, is now law in Arizona! This transformative legislation will save thousands of companion animals each year, giving local police the tools to act quickly in extreme cruelty cases by enabling them to obtain faster search warrants. SB1658 was nicknamed “Jerry’s Law” in honor of Jerry, a survivor of Chandler 55, which remains one of the most egregious animal cruelty cases our organization has ever seen. This momentous achievement isn’t possible without the tireless efforts of Arizona Senator Shawnna Bolick. Her unwavering commitment to animal welfare and leadership in pushing this bill forward has made our state a safer place for vulnerable pets. We are deeply grateful for her advocacy, vision and persistence in making this law a reality. While this victory is historic, the work has just begun. The Arizona Humane Society will now focus on working together with local police departments to ensure the law is enforced and that every community across our state understands and upholds these new standards of care.

In addition to SB1658, the Arizona Humane Society worked diligently to pass a critical new law that increases the bond amount for seized animals from $25 to $500. This bond, which helps cover the cost of care for animals removed due to cruelty or neglect, now better reflects the actual expenses involved and encourages owners to take their responsibilities seriously. By aligning the bond with realworld care costs, we can better protect vulnerable animals, standardize how cruelty cases are handled statewide, and build greater public confidence in the legal process. This important advancement would not have been possible without the leadership and commitment of Senator John Kavanagh. His advocacy was instrumental in championing the rights of animals and pushing this legislation forward which helps ensure a safer, more compassionate Arizona for pets in need.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT: MARY BAKER A LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO ANIMAL WELFARE For over six decades, Mary Baker has been a steadfast supporter of the Arizona Humane Society. A true animal lover, her generosity, compassion and advocacy have made a profound impact on the lives of countless pets and people throughout the years. We sat down with Mary to talk about the joy she’s found over the years— through fostering, volunteering, adopting and giving back. Q: You’ve supported the Arizona Humane Society for many years. When did you first get involved? A: 1964 was the first year. I adopted my then dog, Bo, at the original Sunnyslope Campus. Q: What inspired your commitment to our organization and mission? A: I’m such an animal lover, and I can’t stand to see them in distress. Now we’ve got the capabilities to donate and support the programs that care for these animals. I think it’s important to do that. I support where the organization is going because the Arizona Humane Society helps people, too. The homeless, the deployed...the Bridge the Gap Program works to keep people and pets together. Q: As a member of our Legacy Circle, you’ve helped shape the future of animal welfare in Arizona. What would you say to someone considering making a long-term commitment to our organization by including the Arizona Humane Society in their final giving plans? A: If you love animals, this is the place to support. You will want to promote the Arizona Humane Society’s mission and all that is happening. Take note of the educational events that are offered to get involved and learn more.

GREY MUZZLE ORGANIZATION GIVES SENIOR DOGS HOPE There’s something truly special about senior dogs, like their gentle eyes, loyal hearts, and the quiet wisdom they carry. But when medical emergencies strike, many pet parents face heartbreaking decisions, especially when finances are tight.

The accident left him in need of a costly leg amputation to relieve his pain and protect his quality of life. Max’s owner was devastated, not only by the trauma of the accident but by the medical bills that followed.

That’s why we’re delighted to share that the Arizona Humane Society is the recipient of a recent grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization. Awarded to just 119 organizations out of a competitive 440 applicants nationwide, the grant is helping us ensure that more senior dogs receive the critical medical care they deserve during their golden years. The funds offer a vital lifeline to families struggling with unexpected veterinary costs and who qualify for our Bridge the Gap program.

Thanks to the Grey Muzzle grant, our Bridge the Gap program covered Max’s X-rays and essential follow-up care, giving his owner the breathing room to afford the surgery. Today, Max is healing well, his tail is still wagging, and his bond with his owner is stronger than ever.

Take Max, for instance—a sweet, 9-year-old Labrador Retriever whose world changed in an instant when he was hit by a car.

Max’s journey is just one of many that illustrate the power of compassion, community, and second chances. With support from Grey Muzzle and the dedicated team at the Arizona Humane Society, senior dogs across Arizona are getting the care they need and the love they deserve.

WAG LOCAL THIS HOLIDAY SEASON The holiday season inspires incredible generosity, with nearly a third of all charitable donations made in December. It’s a time when Arizonans open their hearts to support causes that matter—and what better way to give than by helping pets in need right here at home? In fact, large national groups may only allocate a small percentage of your donations—or sometimes none at all—to animal welfare organizations and services in your own community. By choosing to give directly to the Arizona Humane Society, you’re ensuring your gift stays right here in your community. Every dollar supports lifesaving programs, medical care, rescue efforts and adoptions that transform lives across the Valley.

SAY HELLO TO OUR FUNDRAISING AMBASSADORS! Keep an eye out for our friendly Fundraising Ambassadors as they make their way through neighborhoods across the Valley. These passionate team members are on a mission to share how monthly giving creates lasting change for homeless pets in our community. From lifesaving medical care to animal surrender prevention programs, your support directly helps pets in need. Our Ambassadors are easy to recognize. They’ll be wearing official grey t-shirts with our logo and clearly visible nametags. They’ll be equipped with an iPad to securely process donations and will never ask for or accept cash. Your safety and trust are top priorities, and we’re committed to providing a transparent, secure giving experience. If you have any questions about our fundraising efforts or how your support makes a difference, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 602.997.7585 ext. 1035 or monthly@azhumane.org. 10 | PAW P R I N T S

UNLEASHING LOVE AT THE 27TH ANNUAL COMPASSION WITH FASHION October 19 marked the 27th annual Compassion with Fashion fundraiser for the Arizona Humane Society, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined us in style to support our mission! Hosted at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, this year’s ‘Love Unleashed’ theme represented our boundless love for animals, the joy they bring into our lives and the strength of a community coming together to support our cause. Thanks to our event chairs Laura Goff and Alisha McBee, the Compassion with Fashion volunteer committee, our event sponsors and every dedicated animal advocate who attended, over $2.1 million was raised, a new record! These vital funds will go directly toward the lifesaving programs we use each day to rescue, treat and rehabilitate the Valley’s most vulnerable pets. We simply couldn’t do what we do without the outpouring of support we receive from our community each year, and we can’t wait to see you again next year!
