The evolution of an artist is rarely a linear path. There are twists and turns, leaps and bounds and the inevitability of setbacks. There is the added complication of life, with whatever it might bring, and then there is the manic experience of finding one’s creative voice. The process is usually gradual, as a direction is taken through various phases of development and individual bodies of work become testaments to progression or change. Rarely though does an artist alter the course of this journey as abruptly as Mouteea Murad has. Although part of a fairly new generation of Syrian painters, a recent dramatic turn in his burgeoning career has left him with a wealth of experience.
