WelcometothefirsteditionofAyvens’CarCostIndex:ananalysisofthetotal costofowningandoperatingacar(TCO) in28Europeancountries,ranging fromthecompactsegmenttothelargerpremiumcarsegments.

TheCarCostIndexfactorsinthevariouscostsinvolvedincarownershipin eachcountry,includingdepreciation,interest,repairs,maintenance,tyres, energy/fuel,tax(excludingVAT) andcomprehensiveinsurance.

Inthe2025 edition,costsareaveragedoverthefirstfouryearsofownership, assuming anannual mileageof30,000 kmandbasedonAyvens’leasequotes fromQ42024.

Leasingbatteryelectriccarsistypicallycheaperthanpetrolanddieselmodelsin westernandnorthernEuropeancountriescomparedtocountriesinsouthern andeasternEurope.Onlyinthemid-sizedpremiumsegmentisBEVcost competitiveinallcountries.

CarsarethecheapesttoleaseinPolandwhileSwitzerlandisoneofthe mostexpensivecountriestoleaseacar.

TheBMWi4(batteryelectricvehicle)hasalowertotalcostof ownership(TCO)comparedtotheBMWseries3(petrol)in21 Europeancountriesoutof27.
