AGS Welcome FROM THE HEADMASTER Welcome to the Autumn 2025 edition of Flourish, our termly newsletter celebrating the energy, ambition, and achievements of our School community. This term has been packed with memorable experiences, exciting achievements, and a wide range of visits. From exploring the streets of Paris and Berlin to reflecting on history at World War I battlefields, our students have embraced opportunities that expand horizons and enrich learning beyond the classroom. Highlights also included trips to Leicester Tigers, Lee Valley Velo Park, Wren’s Nest Geopark, Tate Modern, and the Royal Albert Hall for the Sumo event, providing students with unforgettable experiences across sport, science, and the arts. A major highlight of the term has been the launch of our 3G Sports Pitch in September, the culmination of 18 months of ambitious fundraising and the generous support of over 1,000 donors. This incredible project was completed a full year ahead of schedule and under budget, and it has been wonderful to see our students already enjoying and using the facility. The pitch has had a transformative impact on sport at AGS, providing top-quality training and playing conditions for the students today and for years to come. Students have excelled across every area of School life. Highlights include successes in rugby, debating, poetry, and chess, reflecting the breadth of talent and commitment within the community. Creative achievements were on full display in the joint AGS and AHS production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the combined AGS/AHS concert, and the AHS and AGS Carol Concert at St Mary’s Church, showcasing the energy, skill, and collaboration of all involved. We were also delighted to welcome our newest Year 7 students, the future Class of ’32, and look forward to seeing all they will achieve and contribute to life at AGS in the years ahead. As the term comes to a close, it’s inspiring to reflect on the dedication, creativity, and curiosity of our students and staff. From academic pursuits to sport and the arts, the commitment of our community continues to make AGS an exceptional place to learn and grow. As you read this edition of Flourish, I hope you enjoy celebrating the richness of life at AGS and the remarkable efforts that make our School community so special.

AGS Archive NURTURING CHARACTER SINCE 1598 2023 marked the 425th Anniversary of Aylesbury Grammar School. To commemorate this incredible milestone, we commissioned a beautifully illustrated hardback book which chronicles the rich history of our School. AGS Events FLOURISH IN ALL YOU DO
The Autumn term has been as busy as ever, with the Brodie and Watson beginning for another year. Well done and thank you to all students that have participated and a thanks to all staff who made these events possible. Your Heads of House are incredibly proud of your support and wish you all a very restful break.
The Brodie events began this term with House Cross Country, where Lee emerged victorious. Well done to Jack (H7), Luca (D9), Euan (R11) and Edward (Pa12) who won their respective races. This was followed by Badminton, where Paterson emerged victorious, closely followed by Squash where Ridley emerged as the winners. House Rugby is ongoing as of the end of term, but Lee are currently in the lead. A massive thank you to Mr Duggan and the entire PE team for organising the events this term.
The Watson began this term with Senior Public Speaking, where Ridley emerged victorious, though Myles (D12) was Speaker of the Day. We had Senior House Quiz, in which Phillips were 1st in Y12 and Hampden in Y13 (this form have come 1st for 7 consecutive years in their House Quiz!) The only Watson events completed in full this term were House Chess, where Hampden claimed victory, and House Art, where Phillips won with their 'Medieval Castle' theme. Currently, Lee are top of the Brodie, and Hampden top of the Watson, though it is all to play for.
AGS Events NURTURE YOUR CHARACTER Senior Prize Giving celebrated the achievements of our senior prize winners, with Old Aylesburian Richard Bush (Phillips ’03) delivering an inspiring address to Year 13 as they prepare for the next chapter beyond AGS. The AGS and AHS Concert showcased the incredible musical talent of our students, with a variety of stunning performances enjoyed by a packed audience. The PTA Curry and Quiz brought families, staff, and friends together for a fun evening of food, laughter, and friendly competition, raising funds to support School initiatives. The SA Rugby Fundraising Event saw the touring party run a full marathon distance in 24 hours, raising over £11,000 and demonstrating remarkable teamwork, resilience, and determination. Remembrance offered the School community an opportunity to reflect and honour those who served, with assemblies and ceremonies fostering respect and empathy among students. The Carol Concert at St Mary’s filled the venue with festive cheer, as students performed a mix of traditional carols and modern pieces to close the term on a joyful note. At the end of this term, we held the annual Rugby Awards Evening, where students and parents came together to celebrate the Rugby season. It was great to hear the reports from the season and the successes that the teams all have had. A huge thank you to Mr Ramsbottom for organising the event and to parents, students and staff for their support. Congratulations to the winners of the various prizes at each age group, along with those students who were nominated for the team of the year.
AGS Sport NURTURE YOUR CHARACTER Athletics Great to hear of Edward’s continued progress in Year 12. He has been selected for the Youth Talent Programme and placed 5th in the Steeplechase at the English Championships this summer.
Enrichment We were delighted to host local primary schools for a Handball festival organised by Mr Roberts and our Sports Leaders. Y11 GCSE students also visited Lee Valley to explore the legacy of London 2012.
Badminton Another strong term of Badminton across all age groups, with numerous victories against RGS, Royal Latin, Parmiter’s, Waddesdon, JHGS and SHFGS. Standout performances came from our U12–U18 squads, with many teams remaining unbeaten.
Football Strong results across the 1st XI, 2nd XI and Junior teams. Highlights included victories in the Bucks Cup, friendly wins against SHFGS, and the always-popular Old Aylesburian fixture. The new 3G pitch has already seen plenty of goals, especially from Jacob, who scored the first three AGS goals on the surface.
Cross-Country Runners performed superbly, with special congratulations to Luca (Inter) and Edward (Senior) for winning their races, and to both Inter and Senior teams for strong results at the ESAA Regional Finals.
Golf Golfers represented AGS brilliantly at Berkhamsted, Moor Park and other Schools events. Notable performances came from Alfie, Euan, Tobie and Tom.
Handball A fast-growing sport at AGS, with our U15 team winning the Bucks round of the National Qualifiers unbeaten. Both U13 and U15 teams gained valuable experience in friendly and competitive fixtures. Hockey Well done to Lewis in Year 9 for his continued development, representing the Midlands in the UK Lions Championship and reaching the final talent selection phase for the National Talent Academy. Our mixed U18 team also enjoyed a competitive fixture against Great Marlow School. Martial Arts Congratulations to Dominic (Year 13), who won gold in the black belt kumite division at the World Martial Arts Games in Oslo. A remarkable achievement on the international stage. Padel Our U18 Padel teams competed in the National Schools competition in Bristol. The 1st team reached the quarter-finals after strong wins in the group and knockout stages. Well done to all eight players involved. Rugby Another huge term for Rugby, with fixtures across all age groups. The 1st XV reached the last eight in the National Vase, securing memorable wins over Sibford, Cokethorpe, Hereford Sixth Form College and Loughborough Grammar School. Junior teams also recorded strong results against UCS, Pangbourne, John Hampden, Cokethorpe and others. Several AGS players represented Bucks RFU, while U15, U14 and U13 teams enjoyed a mixture of impressive wins and close contests across the fixture list. Squash AGS Squash continues to go from strength to strength, with victories across U14, U15, U16 and Senior teams against JHGS, DCGS, Harrow, Berkhamsted and others. Our U18 squad performed excellently at the Independent Schools Open, finishing 2nd overall. National Schools qualifiers saw strong progress across multiple age groups.
Swimming Our Junior, Inter and Senior swimmers competed in several galas including ESSA Regionals, the HABS Gala, and the National Finals. The Senior team placed 18th in the Medley Relay and 13th in the Freestyle Relay. Special thanks to Jake in Year 13, completing his final year after being part of the squad since Year 7. Table Tennis Well done to the U13 and U16 teams, who were undefeated in the District competitions and placed 3rd at the County Finals. The U18 team also competed strongly in the District round. Old Aylesburians Wonderful achievements from our alumni this term: • Marcus Dudley (Phillips ’01), engineer for George Russell, celebrated F1 victory in Singapore. • George Birch captained the Wales U18 Rugby League A team and made his full senior debut. • Oscar Wellbelove was selected for the British Handball Senior Men’s squad. • Cam Brooker secured a BUCS record in the 200m backstroke. Staff News Congratulations to Mr Chambers for his performances at the British Rowing Indoor Championships, finishing 17th in the 2000m and 9th in the 500m in the Masters category. Fundraising A remarkable 24-hour challenge for the South Africa 2026 Rugby Tour saw students run a mile every hour to complete 26.2 miles. Huge congratulations to the seven students who completed the full distance. The event raised £11,650, and we thank all who supported.

AGS Visits EMBRACE OPPORTUNITY
Year 13 students had a fantastic time on a joint visit to Paris with Aylesbury High School. Their highlights included: the French theatre, the Assemblée Nationale, the Arc de Triomphe, and the personalised tour around Le Louvre which meant they saw La Joconde (the Mona Lisa) up close. A special merci to Ms Malhi who accompanied and organised the students on the trip. A l'année prochaine.
Year 13 Berlin Visit Our Year 13 students enjoyed an immersive German language visit to Berlin, organised jointly with Aylesbury High School. The visit combined history, culture and language practice, with guided tours, museum visits and opportunities to engage with local life. Students praised the excellent itinerary, the chance to practise German in real-world contexts, and the fun, friendly atmosphere fostered by Mrs Baker and Mr Sloan. Many highlighted the memories made, new friendships formed, and the overall joy and spirit of the trip, a memorable experience for all involved.
AGS Visits EMBRACE OPPORTUNITY
Year 10 & 12 Art & Photography students enjoyed an inspiring visit to Tate Modern, exploring the Do Ho Suh exhibition, capturing creative shots in Paternoster Sq, and taking in the London skyline. Our Japanese & Kendo students attended the UK Grand Sumo Tournament, experiencing traditional sumo, trying out training, and watching elite rikishi compete up close, a memorable day!
On 3rd October, the History Department was delighted to take 119 Year 9 students to key WWI and WWII battlefield sites in France and Belgium. This was our first return since the Year 11 visit several years ago, so we were very pleased to be back on the road. After meeting early and travelling to Dover, our three coaches crossed to France for a packed two-day itinerary. In Ypres, we visited the Flanders Fields Museum and the site where Col McCrae wrote In Flanders Fields. After dinner at the comfortable Peace Village hostel, we returned to Ypres for the nightly Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, a moving experience for all. Despite wind and rain, day two included valuable time at Tyne Cot, Britain’s largest Commonwealth war cemetery, before travelling to France to explore the La Coupole museum, home to significant WWII technology including the V1 and V2 rockets. With a slightly earlier Channel Tunnel crossing, we arrived back at AGS in good time. A fantastic and informative visit was enjoyed by students and staff alike, offering a powerful first-hand experience of the places and artefacts they study. We look forward to returning in 2026.
AGS Visits NURTURE YOUR CHARACTER
A large group of our students had an exciting day at Leicester Tigers, enjoying a hands-on training session, a Q&A with Ollie Chessum, and finishing with the Leicester vs Leinster fixture. A big thank you to Leicester Tigers for their warm hospitality and to everyone who supported the trip. Year 13 Geologists enjoyed a hands-on day at Wren's Nest Black Country UNESCO Global Geopark in Dudley, collecting observations on lithology, paleontology, and structural geology. Students delighted in searching for fossils, including examples of the famous “Dudley Bug,” and later used their findings to construct a geological map in class, comparing their interpretations with those of professionals.
Fun with Science This term, AGS Science has been full of hands-on learning and exciting events. Year 7 created spectacular specialised cell models using recycled packaging, crochet, jelly, biscuits, and even cake! Practical work across the school included Year 13 using Polymerase Chain Reaction to amplify chloroplast DNA, Year 7 investigating forces and friction, and Year 8 exploring enzyme activity by breaking down starch with carbohydrase. KS3 students also joined the online Protect Our Planet 2025 event, learning how technology is used to study and protect the environment. Live broadcasts from scientists worldwide gave students insight into biodiversity, climate science, and environmental careers, inspiring many with the wonders of our planet. This term, STEM Club students took on the Dyson Foundation Engineering Challenge, an immersive hands‑on project that introduced them to real engineering thinking. Working in teams, they disassembled a Dyson vacuum cleaner and examined multiple iterations of the vacuum head, exploring how each version improved on the last. By studying airflow pathways, seals, filters, and mechanical linkages, students gained a clear understanding of how engineers refine designs to solve problems such as suction loss, manoeuvrability, and debris pick‑up. The challenge helped students develop both practical and analytical skills. They learned to use tools safely, document their observations, and justify their reasoning using evidence from the mechanisms in front of them. More importantly, they experienced the power of iterative design— testing ideas, identifying weaknesses, and improving solutions step by step. The project sparked curiosity, built confidence, and gave our young engineers a real insight into how innovative products are created. Quotes from members: Pedro "“It was really interesting to see the engineers’ thought process and how they refined multiple designs to create the best product.” Tanmay: “It was fascinating to see the engineering behind Dyson vacuum cleaners. Understanding how the iterative design process shaped the two versions of the vacuum head has given me ideas on how to apply these principles to improve my own future projects.”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream This year’s joint Aylesbury High School and Aylesbury Grammar School drama production was a fresh abridgement of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. As the photos show, it was a colourful and innovative production performed on a corridor stage, with a live band providing an exciting playlist of classic rock anthems to enhance the magical atmosphere. A hard-working and talented cast and crew rehearsed solidly for five weeks to bring the Dream to life. The play was very well received, with one audience member commenting: "After a fantastic evening last night, I just wanted to congratulate everyone on such a wonderful production. Over the years I have seen 4 productions of the play (including at Stratford), but this, without a doubt, was the liveliest and most entertaining ever. Especially excellent was the use of music, with some inspired contemporary song choices. Overall, I think Shakespeare would heartily approve! Many thanks again for a great night out."
Poetry Poet and Rap Battler Mark Grist returned to AGS to deliver engaging presentations to Year 7 and Year 10, and lead a workshop for older students, inspiring creativity and performance skills. Congratulations to our Year 8 Slam Poetry Finalists, with Mark Grist as Guest Judge. James Aherne won with his poem Puppets and Puppeteers, and Elliot Norton was runner-up with Normal, an incredible showcase of talent!

Chess Team Success Our chess players have had an exceptional term, showcasing skill, resilience, and competitive spirit. In the September Open Blitz Tournament, Guranshvir took 1st place, Oliver 2nd, and Ushakan 3rd, with standout performances from Pascal, Archie, Dom, and Yash. At the Harrow School Individual Swiss Blitz, Ushakan impressed with a top-4 finish, while Guranshvir and Shrihan also placed in the top 20. AGS dominated the Nine Mile Ride Tournament, taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, with Guranshvir, Ushakan, and Yash leading the way. At the English Schools Chess Championships Qualifier at Sir William Borlase, 36 AGS players competed across six teams. AGS A, B, and C all qualified for the national rounds, with AGS A topping the standings with 15/18 points—an outstanding achievement. Congratulations to all our players for their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship this term.
Debating News Debating got off to a lively start this term with an evening of debating at AGS Foundation Hall, and congratulations to overall winners Shyam and Neovi. Many thanks to Aymaan Sheikh for returning to AGS to offer expert tips and judge the final, and to last year’s Debate Committee—Manas, Hrishik, Kerththekan, and Emre—for their support in making the evening a success. Finley, Lee 12 and Ray, Ridley 13 represented AGS at the Battle of Ideas Festival in London, debating the motion ‘Trial by jury should be removed in certain cases’. Although they did not win, they delivered an excellent performance in a closely contested debate, showcasing their skill and confidence on a national stage. Our English Speaking Union Mace Competition team also had a fantastic term, winning through to Round 2 in November. The Year 12s impressed with debates on ‘This House Would ban short-haul domestic flights where transport alternatives exist’ and, stepping in at the last minute, on ‘This House Would ban dating and relationship-based reality TV’. Both debates were lively and thought-provoking, setting the tone for an exciting second round in January.
AGS Life CELEBRATE DIFFERENCE Our Gardening Club has had a fantastic year. Awarded the Silver Gilt in the Aylesbury in Bloom 2025 School Competition, the club has transformed school spaces, run 217 sessions for over 100 students, supported wellbeing and community projects, and even grown a white pumpkin presented to the Headmaster. A huge thank you to Mrs. Levitt for her dedication in inspiring creativity, growth, and garden glory at AGS. The library has been buzzing this term! Ms Pushong has organised a fantastic range of festive activities for students, including a Christmas countdown, quizzes, chaos games, and the ever-popular Christmas Carol-oke. There have also been celebrations for Black History Month, Mental Health Awareness Week, and the Bucks Book Awards. Delicious treats have been coming out of Food & Nutrition non-stop this term. Congratulations to Andre (Denson 10), winner of the Rotary Club cooking competition. Students have also been busy baking gingerbread houses to support the HoH charity bake and making sausage rolls as part of their GCSE practical work.
Name That Tune Fundraiser for Red Balloon On Friday 12 February, the Foundation Hall was transformed with red balloons and banners for a lively evening of music and fundraising in support of Red Balloon, a local charity based opposite AGS that supports young people unable to attend school due to bullying, anxiety or trauma. Guests were welcomed by Justin on the piano, and the event was expertly designed, led and projectmanaged by students Ethan and George. Jane, Head of Red Balloon, and Annie, one of their learning mentors, spoke movingly about the charity’s work, highlighting the powerful impact of students supporting students. The quiz was hosted by Phillips Head Boys Dominic, Daniel and Ethan. Thank you to the student Tech Team and helpers from across all Houses, from Alex and the Christmas fairy lights on the card reader, to those greeting guests, marking quizzes and supporting set-up and clear-away. Special thanks also go to The Campus band, Justin for the evening’s entertainment, the PTA for running the bar, and AGS staff teams including finance, maintenance and the music department. With 27 student volunteers from Years 9 to 13, the evening raised a fantastic £524 for Red Balloon. We are extremely grateful to all parents and students for their generosity and support.
AGS Life CELEBRATE DIFFERENCE PTA Curry and Quiz Night 2025/26 It was a great pleasure for the PTA to host the 2025/26 Curry and Quiz Night, another highly enjoyable evening of challenging yet achievable questions. Rounds covered all the favourites alongside some new additions, including What Comes Next? and Current Affairs. With a fantastic support crew of AGS boys and AHS girls, and a delicious curry supplied by Ashridge Delicious, the night was a real success, raising approximately £1,500. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated or purchased food, your support is very much appreciated. Look out for next year’s event, which we hope will be even bigger and better.
AGS Staff SPOTLIGHT ON STAFF Staff Achievements We are so proud of Mrs Corbould, who is preparing to take on the 2026 London Marathon. A message from Mrs. Corbould: “I am stepping out of my comfort zone and taking on the challenge of the London Marathon. This is not something I ever imagined myself doing but when my mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at 61 years old, two years ago, my outlook on life changed. It truly is a heartbreaking illness to witness and certainly doesn’t get any easier as time goes on. I am running for ‘Alzheimer’s Research’ as I would like to help support the amazing work currently being done to help find a cure. My sisters and I are fortunate to have been given places and have now started the training programme. Although, the early starts, and dark evenings are tough at times, I feel grateful to have the opportunity to be able to do this and definitely have my 'why' to keep me motivated. Head of House Competitions Bring Festive Fun This term saw two fantastic House competitions bring creativity, laughter and charitable fundraising to AGS. Our Gingerbread House Competition delighted students and staff alike, with Heads of House constructing impressive (and occasionally collapsing!) creations. Congratulations to Mrs Harris of Lee House, who won the student vote. Thanks also to our KS3 students for building a wonderful Gingerbread Village. Over £300 has been raised so far for House charities, with special thanks to the Food and Nutrition team for their invaluable support. Earlier in the term, AGS also hosted its first ever Pumpkin Carving Competition. Students donated to vote for their favourite anonymous design, raising funds for House charities. Once again, Mrs Harris claimed victory for Lee House. Well done to all involved for making both events such a fun and charitable success.
Old AYLESBURIANS SHARING EXPERTISE Richard Bush (Phillips ‘03) Richard returned as Guest of Honour at Senior Prize Giving 2025, delivering a reflective and inspiring address. He encouraged students to embrace extra-curricular activities, develop emotional intelligence, and value success relative to their own goals. It was a memorable evening celebrating the achievements of our senior prize winners and wishing Year 13 every success as they take their next steps beyond AGS.
Alex Walker (Paterson ’98) We were delighted to welcome back Alex Walker (Paterson ’98) for a tour of AGS. It’s always a pleasure to see the School through the eyes of a former student, reflecting on how much has changed, and how much remains the same.
Amala Ejikeme (Phillips ’04) We are grateful to Amala for speaking to our Sixth Form students about his journey since leaving AGS. He shared his inspiring path from studying Law at LSE, progressing through top law firms, and becoming a partner at Kirkland & Ellis. He also emphasised the importance of character, leading with humility, and believing in yourself. Following his address at Junior Prize Giving, we thank Amala for his ongoing support.
Ray Nahim (Phillips ’24) We were delighted to welcome back Ray to deliver a Phillips House assembly. Now studying Economics at Nottingham, he spoke honestly about the challenges of his first year, how seeking support helped him, and how he has since excelled academically and enjoyed student life. His message reminded students that it’s okay to struggle and that asking for help is a sign of strength.
Old AYLESBURIANS SHARING EXPERTISE Craig Spencer (Denson ’10) We were honoured to welcome Craig to speak to our Sixth Form students. He shared his journey from AGS to university and an extraordinary career in the Civil Service and Home Office, reflecting on diversity, inclusion, and the impact individuals can have on society. Craig also highlighted the importance of leadership, social responsibility, and giving back, inspiring students with his insight and commitment to positive change.
Lee Cobley (Hampden ’76) Earlier this month, Lee attended the Remembrance Service and spoke to Hampden House about his time at AGS and his 35-year career in the Royal Air Force, including service in both Gulf Wars. He also adjudicated the Senior Public Speaking competition and reflected on the importance of Remembrance, delivering a moving and memorable address. An OA stalwart, we are beyond grateful for all he does for AGS.
Chris Pringle (Lee ’18) We were delighted to welcome back Chris to deliver a lunchtime session with our MedSoc students. He spoke candidly about the challenges and rewards of life as a doctor, offering excellent insight into this demanding but fulfilling career. Since leaving AGS, Chris studied Medicine at Imperial College and is now an FY2 doctor in Acute Geriatrics at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
Alan Baldwin (Ridley ’86) We were pleased to welcome back Alan to speak to our Sixth Form students about modern policing. Drawing on 32 years’ experience, including leadership roles in multiple UK forces and national safety operations, he shared insights on decision-making under pressure and the role of social media in policing. Alan now runs Practice to Progress and United Outcomes, and we are grateful for the expertise and wisdom he shared.
Old AYLESBURIANS SHARING EXPERTISE Henry Barrow (Paterson ’12) We were delighted to welcome back Henry to MedSoc, where he shared his journey into virology research and the challenges and rewards of a career in science. Since leaving AGS, Henry studied Biological Sciences at UCL, completed a PhD at Cambridge, and is now a postdoctoral researcher at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. We are grateful to Henry and all OA’s who inspire the next generation of AGS medics.
Scott Davies (Phillips ’04) & Billy Munday (Paterson ’18) We were thrilled to welcome back Scott, Player Manager of Slough Town FC, for a powerful session on gambling addiction and the rise of online gambling among young people, sharing honestly about his personal and professional challenges. Adding an extra connection, former pupil Billy, now a journalist at The Guardian, joined to interview Scott, highlighting the inspiring links between AGS alumni and the School community.
James Holliday (Ridley ‘16) James talked MedSoc through his (slightly unconventional) route to being a vet and what his day to day job is like. After the presentation there was an opportunity for students to listen to his dog's heartbeat as well as looking at different veterinary instruments. A fantastic session, thank you!
Ben Harty (Ridley ’20) Ben spoke to our Sixth Form students about his backpacking adventures across Asia, offering practical travel tips and sharing insights on the personal benefits of stepping outside your comfort zone. He reflected on how his own experiences, including finishing AGS during the Covid pandemic and taking time out after university, helped him develop independence, resilience and a broader perspective on life, inspiring students to embrace new opportunities and stay adaptable.
Old AYLESBURIANS SHARING EXPERTISE Christian Purslow (Phillips ’83) We were delighted to welcome back Christian for a Q&A with Sixth Form students on the business of football. Drawing on his leadership roles at Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Chelsea, he shared insights into club ownership, player development, and balancing commercial and sporting demands, giving students a rare first-hand perspective.
KD Smith This term, Headmaster Mark Sturgeon and Development Director Alison Cox visited former Headmaster K.D. Smith, who at 96 remains active, sharp, and deeply engaged with AGS. It was wonderful to see him proudly wearing his AGS tie and claret jumper a reminder that “once an Aylesburian, always an Aylesburian”.
AGS 1st XI vs Old Aylesburians September saw the annual 1st XI vs Old Aylesburians match on the new 3G Pitch, played in a competitive and sporting spirit. The 1st XI secured a narrow 1–0 victory with a goal from Jacob (Hampden ’13), while three sets of brothers featured on the pitch, adding a special touch to the game. It was fantastic to welcome so many Old Aylesburians back to AGS for this memorable fixture.
60th Reunion We were delighted to welcome back Old Aylesburians Stephen Inman, Peter Baines, Alan Crease, Roland Gower, William Strange, and Christopher Willmot for their 60th Reunion this term. Greeted by Headmaster Mark Sturgeon and guided on a tour by Sixth Form students, they enjoyed seeing what has changed at AGS while celebrating what has proudly stayed the same.

Pitch In Launch At the beginning of the autumn term Aylesbury Grammar School was proud to officially celebrate the launch of its new 3G pitch, marking a major milestone in the life of the School. The event on 26 September welcomed over 100 guests, including alumni, parents, staff, and students. Headmaster Mark Sturgeon and James O’Sullivan (Hampden ’91), Chair of the Pitch In Campaign Board, spoke alongside Chris Duggan, Director of Sport, and current students, highlighting the transformational impact of the new facility. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of over 1,000 donors, alongside trusts and grants, the 3G pitch was delivered a full year ahead of schedule. Students immediately enjoyed the space, showcasing energy, teamwork, and pride during rugby and football demonstrations. Special thanks to students, prefects, staff, and our Facilities, Catering, and IT teams for making the event such a success. We are also thrilled to share that the Pitch In Campaign has been shortlisted for the 2025 IDPE Development Awards – Fundraising Campaign of the Year (6 years or more). This recognition reflects the bold, innovative work behind the campaign and the strength of our AGS community.

Looking Ahead – Aylesburian Annual Fund With the 3G pitch completed, our focus turns to the Aylesburian Annual Fund, which supports the School’s urgent, short-term needs. Past donations have enabled the refurbishment of the Art, DT & Engineering building, renovation of PE classrooms for GCSE and A-Level lessons and the creation of a modern, welcoming Student Support area. This year, the priority is upgrading our school toilets, providing clean, comfortable facilities that support student wellbeing. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a tangible difference to everyday life at AGS.
