Today, Arkansas Blue Cross is the largest health insurer in Arkansas, offering health and dental policies for individuals and coverage through employers. As a nonprofit organization, it is unique in that premiums are paid out in customer benefits. Plus, the company is owned by policyholders rather than stockholders.

Premiums go to pay claims and administrative costs rather than stock dividends.

Launched with just five employees, Arkansas Blue Cross now employs more than 2,500 people and is headed by president and CEO, Curtis Barnett.
