Axis delivered a comprehensive refurbishment and building services programme at the Millennium Centre on behalf of Westminster City Council. The project focused on improving the condition, performance and longevity of the community youth centre through a coordinated programme of refurbishment, planned maintenance and M&E improvements.

The external refurbishment works included new air conditioning system, new kitchen, floor renewal, window and glazing overhauls and leak rectification works. These repairs addressed areas of deterioration and helped protect the building fabric against future defects while improving the overall appearance of the facility.

A significant element of the programme included upgrades to the building services. The team carried out heating system repairs and replaced the existing ventilation equipment with a new mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system.

Electrical works also formed part of the programme, alongside the installation of a new intelligent lighting system designed to support greater energy efficiency and improved building performance.

Internal refurbishment works included a full programme of redecoration throughout the centre. Careful coordination of all trades ensured that refurbishment, compliance and building services works progressed efficiently and within the programme timescales.

The completed works improved the environment for future users of the centre, enhanced heating and ventilation performance, reduced maintenance requirements and supported Westminster City Council’s long-term asset management objectives.

Resident Communication and Care The works took place during the summer holiday period when the youth centre remained vacant. This allowed the project team to complete the refurbishment programme without disrupting day-to-day activities or community services.

Although the property remained unoccupied throughout the works, the team maintained regular communication with Westminster City Council and project stakeholders to ensure programme updates, progress reporting and project coordination remained effective.

As part of the wider project benefits, a new sound studio was donated, providing an additional resource for future users of the facility and supporting community engagement within the local area.
