Defence Protected

Providing dependable, secure by design solutions across defence and secure infrastructure, safeguarding operations and site integrity.

we understand the unique requirements of working across the defence estate

Since 2003, Concept has supported the Ministry of Defence in delivering secure, responsive, and operationally critical projects across the MoD built estate. We understand the demands of working within live defence environments, with security embedded into every stage of delivery through strict controls, vetted personnel, and robust processes that protect people, assets, and sensitive information.

Our specialist teams work safely and efficiently, minimising disruption so your operations never miss their mark.

We understand the demands of the defence estate. From maintaining operational environments to working within secure, occupied homes, continuity, safety, and consistency are essential. We work closely with the MoD to meet specific objectives while minimising disruption for Service personnel and their families. Every project is carefully planned and staged, with close coordination alongside other contractors to ensure consistency in finish, quality, and overall appearance.

Security underpins every stage of delivery, with strict controls, vetted personnel, and robust processes in place to protect people, assets, and information.

Security-Cleared Personnel

• Security Management: Our Security Management Team oversees clearances, risk assessments, and compliance, protecting people, assets, and sites.

• Security Risk Assessments: Regular assessments, project specific reviews and adapting to the UK threat level helps identify and mitigate security risks.

• Cleared Workforce: 1,600 operatives hold security clearance, including 292 with higher-level clearance (CTC, SC, DV).

Robust Cyber Security

• Cyber Essentials Plus: Demonstrates strong cyber security controls, helping keep client details and sensitive project information secure.

• Threat Protection: Core technical controls reduce exposure to phishing, breaches, and social engineering, supporting GDPR compliance and aligning with Cyber Essentials principles.

St George’s Church

Conservation Refurbishment

Delivering a comprehensive refurbishment and lifecycle upgrade while safeguarding the church’s historic character. Concept carried out a full mechanical and electrical replacement alongside significant fabric repairs and groundworks at St George’s Church, Bulford. Located adjacent to Bulford Camp, the project required additional precautions to avoid any disruption to live military sites and operations.

Water System Upgrades Conservation

Electrical Upgrades Roofing Flooring

Mechanical works included installation of a new Low Temperature Hot Water system, upgraded electric and infrared heating, improved boiler room ventilation, and renewed domestic water services. The electrical infrastructure was fully replaced, including distribution, lighting, surge protection, earthing upgrades, and a Category L1 fire alarm system, supported by a new Building Management System and integrated PA. A large groundworks package supported the installation of new belowground services across the site.

Innovations, Challenges & Solutions

Delivering a full services replacement and fabric refurbishment within a historic church required careful coordination and technical control. Integrating modern mechanical and electrical systems into a heritage structure presented challenges around routing, fixing methods and protecting original features. We addressed this through early design coordination, detailed surveys and close collaboration with conservation specialists to ensure new installations did not compromise the building fabric.

Army Restaurant Programme | Elizabeth Barracks

Internal Refurbishment

This project forms part of the wider Army Restaurant Programme, which has currently delivered nine completed Junior Ranks Mess dining facility refurbishments across the UK MOD estate.

We joined the Elizabeth Barracks project at RIBA Stage 2, collaborating with the client team to refine layouts and finalise specifications that met all operational requirements and design standards.

Before Works

On site, we completed a full strip out of the existing dining and servery areas before delivering a comprehensive refurbishment. This included reconfiguring internal layouts with new partition walls, installing bespoke booth seating, and upgrading servery areas with new joinery and commercial catering equipment. We installed new flooring, completed full redecoration, and introduced acoustic ceiling treatments to improve comfort and reduce noise levels. Electrical and mechanical upgrades were also carried out to support the revised layout.

Innovations, Challenges & Solutions

Working within a live military setting required strict adherence to security protocols and careful coordination with site operations. Our team held the necessary clearances and worked in line with established processes, which enabled efficient delivery while maintaining compliance.

We used a consistent design approach across the programme while allowing for site-specific adjustments at Elizabeth Barracks. This ensured quality and efficiency in delivery, while still meeting the unique requirements of the location and its users.

After Works

Crisis Suite

Internal Refurbishment

We undertook the strip-out of existing partitions and finishes before reconfiguring the layout to form a purpose-built crisis suite. The new arrangement included a studio, broadcast room, press briefing room, meeting rooms and open-plan working areas.

We led the design and delivery of the project from concept through to completion, coordinating all workstreams under a single point of responsibility. We installed glazed and acoustic stud partitions to define operational zones while maintaining visual connectivity where required.

Reconfiguration Ceiling & Floor Alterations

Innovations, Challenges & Solutions

Delivering a media-ready facility within an operational building required careful coordination and sequencing. We managed demolition and service alterations in a controlled manner to reduce impact on neighbouring areas. Clear communication with stakeholders ensured that programme and access constraints were maintained throughout the two-month duration.

To meet the technical demands of broadcast and press activity, we installed acoustic wall panels and studio backdrop systems to control sound and visual output. Bespoke joinery, shelving and equipment support installations were integrated to suit specialist media equipment. The result is a modern, acoustically controlled environment that supports crisis response, broadcast and operational requirements.

Alford Schools of Military Music

Comprehensive Refurbishment

A comprehensive refurbishment thats scope covered the ground, first, and second floors, with a full stripout to enable structural repairs and a complete internal refurbishment.

We strengthened and restored floor and wall structures and completed extensive roof works across the lower, top, and barrel roofs. This included the removal of existing materials, treatment, insulation, and installation of new roof lights to improve daylight and reduce energy demand.

Innovations, Challenges & Solutions

The site remained operational throughout the works, which required strict controls and clear sequencing. We planned the programme in phases to protect access and safety while keeping activities running. This approach reduced disruption and supported reliable handovers.

Working within a historic dockyard setting required care to balance upgrades with heritage features. We coordinated trades closely and applied appropriate repair methods to retain character while delivering modern performance and compliance.

“The work that’s been done over the last 18 months has really re-made it, it’s like a new facility inside the school of music but of course with all the heritage and character of the old detention quarters, so we’re very pleased.”

Ascension Island Solar Street Lighting

Delivered the design and installation of a solarpowered street lighting system as part of a wider decarbonisation programme on Ascension Island.

The project involved replacing outdated and failed street lighting around the Travellers Hill complex with a sustainable solar solution, reducing reliance on fossil-fuel-based electricity. We led the design and delivery end-to-end, from initial survey and system specification through to installation and commissioning.

Design & Build Electrical Solar Panels

Lighting Energy-Efficiency Upgrades

Carbon Reduction Energy Storage Systems

Concept’s team worked on-site to install streetlights equipped with solar panels and batteries housed in the column bases, providing reliable, energy-efficient lighting. The design accounted for local climate and ecological considerations, ensuring long-term performance without extensive electrical repairs. The installation improved visibility, safety, and sustainability, contributing directly to the island’s decarbonisation goals.

Innovations, Challenges & Solutions

Ascension Island’s remote location and unique tropical ecosystem presented logistical and technical challenges. Transporting materials and personnel required careful planning, while the existing infrastructure was largely unserviceable. Concept implemented solar-powered lighting to eliminate reliance on fossil-fuel energy and minimise environmental impact. Each unit was configured to local solar conditions, ensuring consistent performance despite variable weather patterns. The project was completed successfully, receiving positive feedback from residents and providing a blueprint for future decarbonisation initiatives.
