Following several years of working with Accent on various projects, we were tasked with replacing the kitchen and bathrooms of properties across Leeds and Bradford. This is an ongoing contract, and we continue to work with Accent on several projects and build our relationship.

THE PROJECT

CLC has a seven-year kitchen and bathroom replacement contract with Accent through the CHIC framework. We have been providing fire stopping works, redecorations, electrical works and kitchen and bathroom replacements for Accent since 2016, which provides affordable housing to over 34,000 residents nationwide. As part of the contract, they require full kitchen and bathroom refurbishments around Leeds and Bradford for bungalows, flats, and terrace houses.

INNOVATIONS

During the project, operatives discovered in the early stages of kitchen replacements, that legionella was present within one of the buildings. A decision was made to pause work at this site and move onto another street to keep the project moving. It was ensured that the residents in the first site were provided with a safe and usable kitchen while the legionella was treated in the main pipework. This involved carrying out work to remove dead-leg piping and install legionella filters. We adapted quickly to this change and worked together with the client and kitchen supplier to alter the plan and change the schedule.

SOLUTION

Works started on site in November 2020 and included various major work elements such as full or partial rewiring, plastering, strip and refit of kitchens and bathrooms, vinyl flooring, tile splashbacks and full decoration. During the pandemic, operatives were trained on our COVID-19 working procedures, set up inline with the government’s own procedures, and were provided with the additional PPE to allow us to continue to deliver these works safely to resident’s properties.

Some of the properties required DDA compliant adaptations within the bathrooms. This consisted of refurbishing or installing wet rooms with grab rails and shower seats to make them accessible for disabled residents. Working on these projects requires a level of sensitivity so we guarantee all our staff are DBS checked and provided with appropriate additional customer care training.

THE RESULTS

By the end of 2023, we have completed 376 kitchens and 203 bathrooms since 2020, with a current total contract value of over £2.4 million. The residents now have fresh and modern kitchens and bathrooms that have greatly improved the properties. We continue to work with Accent to improve homes across Leeds and Bradford.
