신체와 행위, 그리고 사물로서의 그림

Ⅰ. 허경애의 그림은 하나의 신체이다. 이 단순한 명제로부터

허경애 허경애 작가는 1977년 대한민국 광주에서 태어났으며 현재 프랑스 파리에서 살면서 작업을 이어오고 있다. 유년기 시 절부터 색을 이용한 감정 표현에 재능을 발휘하던 그녀는 한국에서 미대를 졸업하고 2003년도에 프랑스의 파리로 이주 하였다. 프랑스라는 새로운 곳의 언어와 문화적인 토양 속에서 폭넓은 예술적 영감과 그녀가 태어나고 자란 한국에서 쌓 아온 예술가의 삶이 결합되어 그녀는 파리에서 더더욱 그녀만의 독특한 예술 세계를 발전시켜 나갈 수 있게 되었다. 파리에서 다양한 예술적 매체를 사용하고 실험해오면서 그녀의 작품 세계는 점점 더 견고 해졌다. 특히 두껍게 바른 그 림의 물감 층을 칼로 긁어내는 기법은 회화를 넘어서 일종의 행위 예술의 개념까지 확장해나가면서 허경애 작가만의 예 술 세계를 확고하게 정착시켜 나갈 수 있게 해주었다. 작가 스스로가 ‘눈을 떴다’라고 표현하는 이 기법은 생성과 해체를 반복하는 일종의 명상적인 수행 행위에 가깝다고 할 수 있으며 동시에 매우 강렬한 에너지를 표출하는 표현주의 회화의 전통을 반영하기도 하는데 바로 이러한 점이 오늘날 그녀의 작품에 미술계가 관심을 가지는 이유이기도 하다.

2011년도 파리에서의 첫번째 개인전으로 작가로 데뷔한 허경애 작가는 이후 파리와 한국을 중심으로 활발한 전시에 참여하고 헝가리와 벨기에, 영국, 홍콩, 타이페이 등 유럽과 아시아의 아트 페어에 참가해오면서 보다 글로벌한 경력을 쌓아가고 있다. 단색화에 대한 관심이 집중된 세계 미술계에서 그녀는 한국의 차세대 작가로서 국제적인 명성을 쌓아가 고 있다.

In her childhood days, she was already using art and color to express her feelings, and she soon received recognition of her talents. In South Korea, she obtained two fine arts degrees before her love for the French language and culture lead her to Paris, where whe moved in January 2003 to pursue her artistic education.

In France, Kyung-Ae gained a wider scope of artistic creation. She experimented with various media, but eventually her preference for painting prevailed. She returned to it with newfound inspiration: by scratching the pictorial surface of one of her canvases with a sharp blade, she discovered a new vision and sense of wellbeing. This process, which she describes as “awakening”, is both meditative and aggressive, and draws a lot of attention to her work today.

In 2011, Kyung-Ae gets her first solo exhibition in Paris. Since then, she is frequently exhibited in both Europe and Asia and takes part in numerous international art fairs. She is linked to the younger generation of the ‘Dansaekhwa’ movement and is earning increasing international acclaim.

Hur Kyung-Ae est née en 1977 à Gwangju, en Corée du Sud. Depuis l’enfance, elle utilise l’art et la couleur pour exprimer ses sentiments, et reçoit très tôt une reconnaissance de son talent. Elle obtient plusieurs diplômes d’arts visuels en Corée, puis son attirance pour la culture et la langue françaises l’amène à poursuivre sa formation à Paris, où elle s’installe en janvier 2003.

Là, c’est en expérimentant de nouveaux supports artistiques qu’elle renforce sa préférence pour la peinture. Elle y retourne avec une inspiration nouvelle: en grattant la couche picturale d’une de ses toiles avec un couteau, elle découvre un bien-être et une vision qui marqueront un point décisif dans sa production artistique. Elle dit s’être “éveillée” à ce procédé de construction et de reconstruction, à la fois méditatif et agressif, qui attire aujourd’hui beaucoup d’attention sur son travail.

En 2011, Kyung-Ae a sa première exposition personnelle à Paris. Depuis lors elle est exposée régulièrement et participe à de nombreux salons en Europe et en Asie. Elle est rattachée à la jeune génération du mouvement Dansaekhwa et gagne de plus en plus en renommée internationale.
