While we were researching this story we were greatly surprised to learn just how many veterinarians in California are subject to disciplinary actions . . . and, of those listed, how many had problems with alcohol and controlled drugs. We had no idea there was such a substantial number.
We were also impressed with how thorough the California Veterinary Medical Board was in reviewing and investigating complaints and, when called for, filing charges agains the The Paper - 760.747.7119

offending veterinarians.
I was shocked when I learned that Dr. Dorota Pearson and her practice, Pearson Animal Hospital, had been placed on probation for five years as part of a stipulated settlement.
Evelyn Madison and I knew her; she was a regular advertiser with The Paper for several years, having a weekly column with pet advice. Well written and interesting. A former fashion and photographer's model in Poland, she was a beautiful woman, though always somewhat
aloof.
I took her for lunch once and she opened up . . . in the office and during business hours, however, she was all business. I obtained and read the record filed with the court by the California Veterinary Medical Board. Shocking!
Unbelievable. Such an attractive, apparently skilled, person, graduate of Iowa State’s Veterinary School,
who seemed to be so lacking in compassion and care for animals entrusted to her!
But Dr. Pearson was only the first of two major shocks to us regarding veterinarians we had used in the past.
We also had used Dr. Brian Hosking and his San Marcos Animal Medical Center on Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos on numerous occasions. We learned that he too, had been
