Welcome to our Celebration of Learning Senior Awards Evening! This event is a significant and joyous occasion on our calendar, where we gather to acknowledge and celebrate the wide array of achievements by our learners over the past year.
We are grateful for your presence and support. The ongoing encouragement from parents and friends of the school is deeply valued and remains a tremendous strength of our community.

Dr John Darlington
John graduated from KHS in 2009. Despite a challenging academic journey and questionable grades, he was able to secure admission to Queen Margaret University through a widening participation scheme. Initially lacking confidence in his abilities and carrying a deep scepticism, shared by a few, John persevered and earned a first-class degree in podiatry.
John's passion for Biology and Chemistry was evident from a young age, as noted by care staff during his time in a young person’s unit as a child. He was even found reading "Kumar and Clark's Clinical Medicine," a book he had 'borrowed' from the on-site doctor's room. This early interest fuelled his ambition to become a doctor.
Immediately after completing his first degree, John set his sights on studying Medicine at the University of Glasgow, despite not meeting the typical entry requirements, such as Highers in Biology, Chemistry and all the additional extra-curricular activities; and with initially a high degree of doubt and push back from universities. He successfully gained admission and thrived in the program, consistently ranking in the top decile of his class, winning academic awards, and even being invited to Sweden for his clinical performance. He graduated with the esteemed degree of MBChB with Honors.
Currently, John works as an ACCS doctor in emergency medicine within the South East Deanery of Scotland, rotating through critical care, anaesthetics, and acute medicine, on his path to becoming an emergency medicine consultant. In addition to his clinical role, he lectures at various Universities across the UK and has recently been appointed as an honorary lecturer at his alma mater, Queen Margaret University, where he initially only gained entry through the widening participation scheme.
