Working with the Forestry Commission ensures the 120-acre estate continues to flourish. In and around the woodland lodges, we have introduced water saving devices and recycle over 80% of waste.

Special lighting has been installed to reduce light pollution making it ideal for star gazing.

The Forest Hub, is your one stop shop for adventure on two wheels. With cycle routes to suit all abilities, it’s great fun to hire a bike, tandem or tag-a-long to explore the forest.

And with lots of onsite activities on offer you’ll be spoilt for choice. Take the opportunity to experience nature in our forest surroundings. Join one of our bug hunts or woodland walks. Enjoy a football tournament or, for the adventurous, try out our laser combat games. Activities vary throughout the year.

Sandy Balls is all about all year round activity - whether you like walking, riding, fishing, swimming, going to the gym or just enjoying some me time in the spa.

The kids can play with new friends and build dens - enjoying the freedom of safe surroundings while adults do as much or as little as they please.

Sandy Balls history

Back in time

We’ve been making memories for guests now for nearly 100 years! Generation after generation return to our New Forest getaway, to spend time together, to relax and of course to have fun!

The land was bought by Ernest Westlake in 1919. In the early years it was home to a youth movement but his ultimate vision was to provide a beauty spot for families, and so in 1937 several log cabins were placed among the trees.

These later became home to evacuees during the war. During the 70s and 80s the village began to transform into the Sandy Balls of today – featuring luxury accommodation, five-star facilities, a host of activities and a team which is renowned for its award-winning welcome!

The name Sandy Balls dates back to the reign of King Henry VII when ‘sandyballas’ - domed sand and gravel outcrops on our western boundary first appeared on historic maps.

The New F orest & surrounding area Located in the peaceful village of Godshill, Sandy Balls is perfectly located to explore the New Forest and beyond. With plenty of opportunities for scenic walks and cycle rides, enjoy spotting some of the wildlife that lives here. New Forest Ponies roam free all year round and are a spectacular sight.

Take a wander around the pretty towns and villages of the New Forest and relax in picturesque scenery. Each season provides a new panorama. Tiny foals in spring. Summer sun and picnics by the river.

Glorious rich russets and golden hues in autumn and crunching leaves underfoot in winter.

Less than 20 miles away at Bournemouth you will find some of the most stunning beaches on the South Coast.

Enjoy a day out for some full-on family fun at Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park.

Take a leisurely stroll around Exbury Gardens or along the banks of the 18th Century village Buckler’s Hard.

Enjoy use of our indoor and outdoor pools* before taking some time to relax in our spa pool and sauna. For our younger guests, separate toddler pools keep them safe and happy while they find their water wings.

The Retreat Take time for yourself and let your stresses melt away at our beauty suite. Lay back, close your eyes and simply immerse yourself in a wonderful range of treatments and therapies. Aromatherapy massages, hot stone massages, luxury facials and manicures are just some of the treats on offer.

At peak busy times we operate 1 hour swimming sessions to allow more people the chance to enjoy our pool. Bookings may be taken online.

The Woodside Inn The Woodside Inn offers a choice of pub grub with a gourmet twist. Choose from mains such as hunters chicken, fish & chips, gourmet sausage & mash, loaded burgers, crisp salads and more.

The Forest Table For delicious Italian cuisine The Forest Table family restaurant has a perfect selection of gourmet pizzas, tasty pastas and delicious mains. Tarragon chicken or Cajun spiced salmon are sure to delight.

During school holidays we have a fun-packed and exciting programme of entertainment*. Enjoy magical moments and laughter at shows for the whole family, and in the evening, join us for family parties, discos and a fantastic selection of live acts.

There really is something for everyone!

Things are a little more peaceful in term time. You can test your knowledge at our weekly Wednesday night pub quiz, or enjoy an evening of live entertainment every Friday and Saturday. Or simply sit back, relax, and enjoy your time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

At Sandy Balls there is no need to worry about what to do with your animal companions while you’re away because dogs and other pets are welcome here. Sandy Balls offers a wide selection of pet friendly accommodation. Many of our lodges, caravans, camping pods and touring pitches are pet friendly.

With our designated pet exercise area, there is plenty of opportunity for your dog to have a good run around.

There’s pet friendly dining available in our onsite pub, The Woodside Inn for well behaved dogs.

Some accommodation even has external ‘doggie showers’ which makes keeping them perfectly groomed really easy! With beautiful walks on offer in the New Forest you are both sure to enjoy a lovely break away.

Fancy going a bit further afield? Then why not hook up one of our doggy trailers available for hire from our Cycle Centre and head off on one of the many New Forest cycle routes.

It was great being able to bring our dog to the pub whilst we had dinner and a glass of wine.
