AWAMAKI 2017
To collaborate with the greater Ollantaytambo community to create economic opportunities and improve social well-being. We envision highly skilled Andean women artisans engaged in the market economy, running successful cooperative businesses, and leading their communities out of poverty.
In the Peruvian Andes, the colors and tones of our landscape transform with the changing of the seasons. In the dry season, red mountains turn to pink, whilst rainy season restores a lush, green hue to the hillsides. These shades compliment each other and serve as a never-ending inspiration to local artisans. Our collections demonstrate the connection between nature, ancient cultures, and design. The handwoven motifs are contemporary adaptations of traditional elements that the women have been weaving since childhood. Designs represent a woman’s personality, values, and how she sees herself in relation to the world. There is a pureness in the importance of these motifs to the femle artisans. Learn the story told by our lovingly handcrafted products, which illustrate the complex lifestyle of the highlands.
