When your doors or windows are closed, our hope is that you don’t even notice our product. Our minimal frames are designed to maximize views, flood in visible light, and disappear from sight. When the doors are open, we want entire walls to be eliminated and we aim to extend your living space out onto your patio. The 2” sightline and squared-off stop design is focused on guiding your eye toward your view. Hidden hinges, large sizes, and contemporary hardware make it a favorite of designers and architects.

Our operable window products are named the 105 Series to highlight that 1 in 5 people currently in prison are locked up for a non-violent drug offense1.

Sadly, many of these individuals are incarcerated for marijuana use, which is now legal in (24) states (and counting).

While many need rehab or modern lawmaking, the reality is hundreds of thousands of people are locked up every day in the USA for non-violent drug use. When they leave prison, their criminal record makes it difficult to gain meaningful employment. With your help, we can change that reality for some.

Unemployment is the greatest contributor to recidivism.

Our Patio Door products are named the 275 Series to draw attention to the fact that in 2008 when the federal unemployment rate was 5%, the unemployment rate for formerly incarcerated individuals was 27%2. While surviving prison and the extremely long sentence lengths in the USA is hard enough, getting a good job when leaving prison is often the most difficult part of successfully re-entering society. Awake Window & Door Co., with your help, is creating jobs and providing meaningful second chance employment to break this recidivism cycle.

The 425 Series Window Wall has an ultra-narrow sightline of only 1”. The curtain wall-inspired “pressure bar” allows for large sizes, but the innovative design of the nail fin makes installation easy.

2” COMMON MULL

With our Window Wall system, vertical structure can be created by utilizing a residential type common mull (as shown), which utilizes a thermoplastic mull clip to connect fixed or operable windows, hinged doors, or patio doors.

1-3/8” STRUCTURAL T-BAR

For those desiring the narrowest sightline possible, our window wall includes a 1-3/8” T-Bar option. The T-Bar allows operable or hinged doors to be inserted, resulting in incredibly minimal sightlines with all glass in plane.

STEEL STIFFENERS

Steel stiffeners are inserted and installed at our factory when the DP or structural requirements of the job call for it. No notching or anchoring of tabs are required. Installation remains the same, and the steel inserts add so much strength they virtually eliminate the need for “structure by others.”

NO SILL OPTION

The no sill option provides a clean look as it reduces the sightline to almost nothing allowing t he door leaf to be nearly flush with the floor.

LOW SILL

Our prison system is often full of young people that had extremely difficult upbringings, and prison is rarely the method or place to rectify this. Awake partners with organizations and actively looks to employ at-risk young men and women aging out of the foster care system to help them build a career and avoid the prison cycle. Mission Mass incarceration is devastating.

Mass incarceration is a major problem in the United States. Our country has 4% of the world’s population, but 25% of its prison population9. Sadly, 50% of those formerly incarcerated end up back in prison within 5 years of leaving10. The prison industry costs taxpayers $182 billion annually, and it helps create devastating cycles of poverty and imprisonment that devastate families11. We lock up too many people, for too long, and then make it incredibly difficult for them to re-enter society when they leave. The net result is a complex problem in need of an innovative solution.

Second Chance Employment is critical.

One of the biggest issues contributing to the high recidivism rate in the USA is that companies are unwilling to hire people with a criminal record12.

This form of legal discrimination is considered best practice and a wise risk reduction in most of corporate America.
