MĀORI COMMUNITY DINNER Avondale College held a special event in the library last night, to celebrate and support the ongoing success of our Māori students. Guests were welcomed with a whakatau held in the atrium, and then enjoyed a meal together in the library. Student leaders spoke about their experience of success at College, and this was followed by robust discussion around how the success of our Māori students can be further supported by the school, their families and the community. Many thanks to all who were part of this engaging and positive evening!

TTCF SCHOLARSHIPS Thirty-nine $2000 scholarships are available to Year 12 or 13 Avondale College students who are intending to study a tertiary course next year at degree level or NZQA Level 4 or above. Our thanks to The Trusts Community Foundation for their generous support of our students. The funds can be used towards course fees, a portable computer and associated software, accommodation (room only), textbooks or essential equipment. Applicants must be permanent residents, have academic or technical ability and have contributed to school or community. Application forms can be downloaded from the intranet under Careers, Scholarships and Finance or picked up from Careers. Applications are due by 3:30pm Tuesday September 17. HIP HOP INTERNATIONAL DANCE COMPETITION Seven Avondale College students headed off to Phoenix, Arizona last month, to represent New Zealand at the Hip Hop International Dance Competition! Senior students Bailey Greaves and Winifer Peteli were successful with their respective groups, with Bailey's group placing 3rd in the Varsity division and Winifer's 4th in the Adult division. Desney Fritz, Natania Havea, Connor Carroll, Hosana Alefoiso and Xarya Tamaalii were all part of Team NZ and we are extremely proud of their achievement and success!

Boys A: Defeated St Cuthbert’s 6-0 on Friday. Boys B: Drew with Mt Albert Grammar on Tuesday, but lost on points decision. Girls A: Won 4-2 against Parnell.

Year 9 Boys Football: Defeated Kings in their final game of the season, 1-0.

Avondale 1: Play in the grand final this week after beating Liston 11-0. Avondale 2: Had a 7-4 victory over Liston on Friday. Avondale 3: Also defeated Liston 7-4. Avondale 4: Beat Liston 9-2. Avondale 5: Came away with a 7-4 win over Avondale 7. Avondale 6: Defeated Avondale 8, 10-1.
MEASLES IN AUCKLAND SCHOOLS The Auckland Regional Public Health Service has contacted all Auckland schools about a change in response to the continuing wave of measles cases. While no cases have been currently diagnosed at Avondale College, the Auckland Regional Public Health Service has advised that they are now unable to notify schools if they have a measles case. The Health Service has asked GPs to check if any patient with confirmed measles attends a school, and if so, to instruct the parents to advise the school, along with the infectious period. They also advise that the best way to stop the spread of this outbreak is to get at least one MMR vaccination.

TAUREWA CAMP Trip Information We encourage families to make early regular payments towards the Taurewa Camp fee, as the camp fee must be fully paid prior to departure. Year 10 students will receive their first briefing for their camp approximately six weeks before departure.
TAUREWA ADULT HELPERS NEEDED! We would like to draw your attention to an exciting opportunity to work with our students at our school camp, Taurewa, which is located beside the Tongariro National Park. Adult helpers are vital to the success of our Taurewa Camps, and we are currently looking for some more volunteers for upcoming trips! A reasonable level of fitness is required but no experience in the activities is necessary. Each camp is five days long and includes the following activities based around Tongariro National Park: • Year 10s: Kayaking, day tramps, hot pools, low ropes course and more! • Internationals: Overnight tramping, caving, skiing and more!
