ABSENCE LINE The West Auckland regional heats of the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival took place on Monday night, with 21 Avondale College students in six groups taking to the stage to present their five or fifteen minute Shakespearean scenes. Five of the groups had prepared student-directed scenes, which meant they had worked independently to choose the scene, plan costuming and devise movement to create highly successful pieces. An impressive amount of atawhai was shown by all students in their support of each other both behind the scenes and on stage. A highlight was the scene by Year 12 students Zanique Eilers and Heather Wallace who played out the final moments between Macbeth and Macduff with very realistic bloody wounds and sword fighting!
