B SENIOR PRIZEGIVING Avondale College celebrated the success of our top students for 2018 at the Senior Prizegiving last Wednesday evening. Congratulations to all students who were recognised for achieving the highest results in their subjects, and to those who were awarded special prizes and tertiary scholarships. Our highest academic honours went to: NCEA Dux: Sian Dillon Cambridge International Dux: Varun Bora NCEA Proxime Accessit: Anne Hurt Cambridge International Proxime Accessit: Bailey Tang Special congratulations also to Mrs Rachel Lamb who won the Staff Travel Study Award for 2018. SCHOOL CLOSING EARLY Avondale College won FOUR awards at the Showdown Awards on Saturday night, for the school's production of Catch Me If You Can! The red carpet event was held at the Mercury Theatre, and recognised excellence in the performing arts in Auckland secondary schools' dramatic and musical productions. Avondale College had been nominated for 12 different awards in the 'Musical' category, amidst some fierce competition from a large number of Auckland schools. We were delighted to win the following awards: Ms Clare Jennings - Best Choreographer Mr Les Hughes - Best Lighting Design Mrs Susan Elijas and team - Best Costumes Monty Mathieson - Best Male in a Supporting Role Congratulations to all our nominees and award winners!
