Featuring a cast of 80 students, a full show band and a great number of backstage helpers and technicians, the show is a high energy performance filled with catchy tunes, fabulous dance numbers and a riveting story. SENIOR REPORT EVENING NEXT WEEK Tuesday 25 September Avondale College’s Senior Report Evening will be held on 25 September, in the College Atrium from 4.30pm to 7.00pm, giving parents the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss the progress of their child. The online booking facility for this evening is now available on Family Connection until 23 September. Once bookings close, appointments can only be made manually by students using the form posted out with the report.

Joshua Parker, Maxwell Barrett and William Elliott a.k.a. 'Bad Dog' will take to the stage of the Smokefreerockquest National Final on Saturday night, after having risen to the top of over 800 nationwide entries to secure a spot amongst the top six bands in New Zealand! Formed earlier this year, Bad Dog is a three-piece alternative rock band that the Avondale College students created after having played in various jazz bands together. They will be performing their original charts at the Smokefreerockquest National Final on 22nd September at the Dorothy Wilson Centre. Tickets are available through Eventfinda. We wish them all the best!
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL Avondale College's Amnesty International group had a busy and eventful Freedom Challenge week this year. The cause? Raising awareness of people who have been wrongfully detained without due process. The Amnesty candle was on display in the atrium all week and people could attach messages of hope and support to it. The group ran 'Candles of Bravery' where people could demonstrate atawhai by sending messages of approbation to others, and a fun Scavenger Hunt was run on Friday. The final total amount raised is to be confirmed, but the Avondale Amnesty Group would like to thank students and staff for their outstanding generosity in supporting this worthy cause.

The Bill Rodwell Rotary Award is to assist senior students to further their education at Avondale College. It is awarded to Year 11 or Year 12 students who have been fully involved in school activities, who have done well academically and intend to return to school for one or two years of further study. Family financial circumstances are taken into consideration.

MEDIA STUDIES FILM NIGHT The Media Studies Department Film Night was held on Wednesday 12th September. It was lovely to see some of the parents of students, as well as the students themselves, enjoying the creative and entertaining films which showcased an array of outstandingly high quality production skills. A32 became a Film Noir 'Speakeasy' for a few hours as we celebrated the hard work and highly talented film-making skills of our Level 2 and Level 3 students. The Level 2 students produced a selection of scary and disturbing horror films, while the Level 3 students showed their mastery of mystery and intrigue with a selection of Film Noir films. The evening ended with a screening of the film 'Class Dismissed' made for the 48 Hour Film Festival earlier in the year, directed by James Millington. The Oscars for Level 2 went to: Best Director: Megan Metcalfe, Best Horror Atmosphere: Paranormal Activity - Untold (Fa'asaulu Fepulea'i, Melanie Nicoll, Phill Lalo and Wisealei Hope) Best Hideousness: Material Girl (Poppy Madden, Renata Knox and Benn West), Best Actor: Monty Mathieson, Best Fight Scene: Days of End (John Kaulima-Panapa, Maka Moananu, Daymian Cassidy and Kyvard Mason). The People's Choice Award went to: Voodoo (Ben Irwin, Josh Black and Monty Mathieson). The Oscars for Level 3 went to: Best Director: James Millington, Best Noir Atmosphere: Validation (Chamod Lokubalasuriya, Kenlenn Rebello and Sean Kamitani), Best Femme Fatale: Annalee Heuthorst, Best Death Scene: Rui Kerr, Best Super Media Allrounder went to Jaedin Sears and TJ Tepu, The People's Choice Award went to: You've Been a Bad Husband (Felix Ardern-Young, Rui Kerr and Will Elliott.)

Senior Boys A defeated St Peters 2 5-0 and the Senior B Boys also won 6-0 against St Peters 3. Senior Girls A drew 3-3 but won on points against St Peters 1, and the Senior B Girls lost 6-0 against Auckland Grammar 4
VOLLEYBALL
The Auckland Secondary Schools Junior Volleyball Qualifying Tournament was held on Friday 14 September to Saturday 15 September. Our Junior Girls Volleyball team entered the competition vying for a spot in the Junior A Grade for this season. Unfortunately, they didn't win enough games to move into this grade, but they had two outstanding games, beating both Takapuna Grammar and Long Bay. The girls showed real heart and competitiveness and proved that they are more than capable of playing amongst the top teams. They tied a few sets in a couple of games but were out of luck on the third set. It was a really good experience for the girls, and they are already eager to get back to training and work towards games next term.
Alex Dunkley participated in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships over the weekend. Alex finished in 3rd place in the 13 year old boys grade, after a great weekend in which he achieved five personal best times!
