B STAND UP STAND OUT The next generation of music stars were on display at the finals of Stand Up Stand Out; Auckland’s premier secondary school music and dance competition on Saturday, with Avondale College's Maurice and the Men taking out the band category for 2018! Amidst the exceptional talent on display at the finals were six entries from Avondale College who had emerged from more than 1000 secondary school entrants amidst the intense competition of the heats and semi-finals. The judging panel – Cherie Mathieson, Brandon Haru, Joash Fahitua and Antonio Bukhar – had a challenging time selecting the winners, but Avondale College was named in the top two of three categories:

Band: 1st: Maurice and the Men (Joshua Parker, Liam Harris, Bradley Nauck, Max Fagan) Vocals: Runner Up: Angel Maene-Lokeni Solo Instrumental: Joshua Parker - Drums The five category winners will share a portion of $6000 prize money as well as the opportunity to take an exclusive masterclass workshop with one of the SUSO 2018 judges to further their musical growth. TTCF ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS Due to the generosity of The Trusts Community Foundation we are able to award 39 x $2000 scholarships. These scholarships are available for students (permanent New Zealand residents) going on to study at university, polytech or private training institutes in 2019. The scholarship can be used for course fees, digital equipment, textbooks/stationery and university accommodation. Applicants must have a good academic record and have made a contribution to school and/or the local community. Application forms are available from the Careers Department or can be downloaded from the intranet. Applications close on Tuesday 18 September.

Due this Friday

Gateway 2019 applications due this Friday! Gateway is an opportunity for Year 12 & 13 students to have work experience in a career of their choice. We will place them with a company for 5-10 days, to see if it’s the career for them. Each student can also gain, on average, 20 NZQA credits while being on the Gateway programme. If your child is thinking about a career and they would like to give it a go, please collect a form from Mrs Lee in the Careers Department.
