READERS & WRITERS FESTIVAL On Thursday 17th May, 40 students from Years 9 and 10 boarded a doubledecker bus to the Aotea Centre, bound for a day of inspiration. Students listened to presentations from four authors, who had travelled to the festival from as close as Auckland (ex-Avondale student, now Poet Laureate Selina Tusitala Marsh) and as far as London, Alaska and Pennsylvania. These authors provided an insight into writing in a range of diverse genres, including poetry, drama, spoken word, young-adult and science-fiction. Highlights were A.S. King and Alex Wheatle, two novelists who captivated students with stories from their own lives and emphasised the important links between creative writing and positive mental health. Overall it was a fantastic trip, with plenty of ideas and encouragement to fuel students' minds and pens.

again with a nice little flick and down comes the rain of goals... Four: a precise feed to Rahul from Liam Law-Telea. Five: Hersh Patel dribbles along the baseline then a quick push to Anoosh and in! Six: Liam feeds the ball to Lex Revell-Lewis who makes the goal look easy. Half time: 6-0 to us. First minute into the second half and the devastation continues. Anoosh’s reverse stick: goal 7. Next up Rahul passes straight to Abhishek who fires it home on the angle: goal 8. Sleepy defence makes it 9 and Anoosh hits from the circle edge for double digits: 10. A lonely goal later in the half to AGS was followed up by Rahul's brilliant and skilfully danced individual goal, securing an outstanding win with great teamwork.
