B WELCOME TO 2018!

Today our incoming cohort of Year 9 students were welcomed by Principal Mr Lewis, DP in charge of Year 9 Mr Bennett, and Deans Mrs Davis and Ms Williams at a special assembly in the theatre. Students were then directed to their home room classes where they spent the day getting to know each other and orienting themselves around the College.

We also welcomed back our Year 13 students, and are looking forward to seeing our Year 10s, 11s and 12s at their assemblies tomorrow, as well as our Year 9s at their 9am Powhiri.

MEDALS FOR ATHLETES Three Avcol athletes brought home three gold medals and a bronze from the U16 Inter-provincial competition this weekend. Competing for the Auckland U16 team, Faith Faumui, Tremayne Redman-Gardner and Jaspar Hipkins competed in three individual events each, plus a relay for team points. The Auckland U16 team came away with the win (by 1 point) over the Counties Manukau team.

2018 STUDENT DIARY All Year 9 and 10 students will be issued a 2018 Avondale College Student Diary during home room this week which has been charged to their account.

The student diary will be available for Years 11, 12, and 13 at the College Shop for $4 each.

WHOLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS DAY THURSDAY 8TH FEBRUARY The Avondale College Athletics Day is a great day on the school calendar and offers all students a chance to participate. It also doubles as the first part of the Avondale College Athletics Championships. Athletes who throw or jump past the set standard will qualify for the Championship Athletics Day to be held on Tuesday 20 February at The Trusts Stadium, Henderson.

All students need to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and sunscreen. Junior students can come to school wearing their PE gear; Years 11 and 12 should wear PE uniform or black and white sporting gear.

Should the day be postponed due to weather, an announcement will be posted on our school website www.avcol.school.nz.

UNIFORM UPDATE Our College Shop has received a new shipment of girls' pinstriped shorts and PE uniforms. Students who have ordered and pre-paid for these items are welcome to collect them from the temporary College Shop on Thursday or next week in the usual College Shop location.

The shop will be closed on Friday 2nd Feb (Teacher Only Day) while it relocates to its term-time location in the Atrium.

The Avondale College Performing Arts Academy will be starting on Monday 19 Feb (Week 4, Day 6) for students who successfully auditioned and have been accepted into the Academy programme. The initial session starts in the theatre at 7:45am. You can do this in several ways: a) Send a notification via Family Connection (preferred) • Log in to Family Connection • Select ‘Available E-Forms’ (at top left) • Click on Absence Notification • Fill out the details, save and submit.

You will receive a confirmatory email once the notification is approved. This replaces the need to supply an absence note to the home room teacher. b) Email the Attendance Officer: absences@avcol.school.nz. Please include your child’s full name, home room class and the reason for the absence.
