Yesterday a group of Level 3 English students went to the Pop-Up Globe in Ellerslie for a performance of Shakespeare's tragedy Othello. It was a superb performance, with a little touch of Kiwi in it. The students were delighted to see the studied text come to life, a bit horrified by the amount of blood and got to meet some of the actors afterwards. We were positioned in the "groundlings" area and stood for two and a half hours, however we were right in the middle of the action with actors moving through the crowd. A great day was had by all.

wednesday 5 april 7-9pm whare

SOFTBALL

Softball was cancelled due to wet weather.

VOLLEYBALL

The Auckland Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships was held on the 9th- 11th of March at The Trusts Arena. The Senior boys team won silver in the Division 2 competition, after going down in straight sets in the final against Macleans. The Senior girls team had a great win against Waitakere College on Day 1, with close losses to Auckland Girls Grammar and Glendowie College. Day 2 saw the team play Southern Cross Campus and Takapuna Grammar in three sets. The girls have improved as the season has progressed, with the senior students taking the lead and encouraging the young talent coming through. Atonia Vavao and May Asovale (Captains) have been fabulous all season and played consistently throughout the zones and championship tournament. Maria and Uso Ofati are sisters in Years 9 and 10 who have been committed to trainings and expanding their knowledge of the sport and have adapted well to playing in the Senior grade. We look forward to having them at the front of the junior competition in term 4.

FAMILY CONNECTION The Avondale Family Connection allows families to have direct access, through the internet, to a wide range of information about their child’s academic performance, attendance, activities, events, trips, parent/teacher interview appointments and teacher only days. PARKING SAFETY NOTICE

Senior Girls Volleyball Team

TENNIS

All tennis was cancelled due to wet weather.

WATERPOLO

The Senior Boys played Howick College in a tough game. Finn Stoneman played exceptionally well. We were minus some of our older players, but our juniors stepped in and gave it their best shot. Goals were scored by Finn Stoneman (3), Adam Milne (3), Jared Hemara (2).

The front gate of the school is a NO STOPPING zone. Please DO NOT drop your children off directly outside any gates or inside the school grounds. Drivers who stop in the wrong place to drop off passengers put the safety of the students, staff and school property at risk. Thank you.

TRAVEL & TOURISM TRIP A year 12 Travel and Tourism class had the privilege of visiting the International Travel College of New Zealand to complete a short course about customer service. The students had a great time learning about how to provide great customer service and they then got to practise their skills with some role plays.

TAUREWA CAMP 2017 Year 13, Year 12 and Year 10 students have the opportunity to go to Taurewa Camp. We encourage families to start making early regular payments towards the Taurewa camp fee, as the camp fee must be fully paid prior to departure. Year 10 students will receive their first briefing for their camp approximately 10 weeks before departure, but students are encouraged to tell their parents early that their camps are coming up this year.
