B ACADEMY SHOWCASE 'Wonder Land' Wonderful! Avondale College's Performing Arts Academy took their audience on a delightful tour down the rabbit hole in their Alice in Wonderland themed performance on Thursday evening. The showcase featured the talent of our Year 9 and 10 students, who have been working hard this year in the hour before school starts, five mornings a fortnight. Their pieces incorporated a variety of styles of dance, including the Mad Hatter's tea party from the Dance Academy students, reenactments of the famous nonsensical trial scene and the Queen of Hearts' croquet match by Year 10 and Year 9 Drama Academy students, and performances by the Jazz and Classical Academy students which gave new inspiration to the visual backdrop of Disney's Alice in Wonderland. All in all it was a wonderful evening of entertainment and we look forward to seeing more from these talented students next year.

SPORTING AWARDS FOR AVONDALE ATHLETES The Trusts Sport Waitakere Excellence Awards
The west's best athletes, volunteers and administrators were recognised on Saturday night at The Trusts Sport Waitakere Excellence Awards held at the Te Atatu Peninsula Community Centre. Avondale College swimmer Gabrielle Fa'amausili won two prestigious awards at the event: Junior Sportswoman of the Year and the Pacific Island Achievement Award. Former Avondale College student Amber Herne (along with teammate Erin Nayler) won the award for Sportswoman of the Year, following their Olympic success with the NZ Football Ferns.
Young Sports Person of the Year
Auckland's top youth athletes were recognised at the College Sport Auckland YSPOTY Awards on 26 November. Two Avondale College students won awards at this event: Heidi Stolberger in Orienteering, and Gabrielle Fa'amausili in the Swimming category. Congratulations, Heidi and Gabi! We also had two students from Avondale College who were finalists in their sporting codes: Dacmen Vong in Badminton and Caleb Uele in Rugby League.

Parents/Caregivers must call the Absence Line by 9.30am each day if their child is away. Students are required to provide a written note for all absences, even after the school has been notified by phone. This note must be brought on the first day of attendance after the absence and given to your home room teacher.

External visits to the doctor or dentist will require a note or appointment slip from home which needs to be taken to the Attendance Officer to sign out. Visits to the Guidance staff and Deans are only allowed if an appointment card can be produced to the class teacher. Visits to the Nurse are to occur at intervals and lunchtime only. During class time students must get a pass from the teacher.
