The academic endeavour of our senior students was formally recognised at Tuesday’s Senior Prizegiving, where 238 students received prizes, special awards and scholarships totalling more than $260,840 in value. The evening was enhanced by musical items from the Avondale College String Ensemble, Smokefree Rockquest winner Iris Guevarra, Avondale College orchestra, Dale JC Jazz Combo. Special congratulations to Mr Paul McClean who was awarded the Staff Travel award for 2016, and to our highest achievers: Dux for Cambridge: Rokaya Islam; Dux for NCEA: Jingyuan (Cindy) Huang; Proxime Accessit (CIE) Bronwen Lamb; and Proxime Accessit (NCEA): Sepora Cassidy.

Avondale College welcomed a keen group of hopeful Year 8 athletes to our sports fields and courts on Friday, with the trials for the 2017 Sports Academy. Teacher in Charge of the Sports Academy, Mr Jaco Le Roux says he was delighted with the calibre of students who attended the trial. “The Academy has been going from strength to strength in recent years,” he says. “We are looking forward to working with an extremely competitive cohort next year.” Mr Le Roux also expressed his thanks to the coaches and Sports Academy students who helped to run Friday’s trials. Congratulations to all those Year 8s who were successful in securing a place in the Academy - we look forward to seeing you in 2017!
