1st XI Girls - St Kentigern batted first and got 103 for 5 from 20 overs. We got 67 for 8 from 20 overs. Win to St Kentigern 1st XI Boys Cricket - The boys played very well on the weekend against a strong St Peters 1st XI. They bowled them out for 90 in 32 overs then batted to end the day at 148/9. Top scorers were Asallah and Jacob on 32 followed by Lathira on 27. Asallah batted very well to score a quick 32 from 48 deliveries. The boys will resume next week in a good position with a lead of 58 runs. 2nd XI Boys Cricket - Dilworth 1st XI batted first and scored 223/2 in 26 overs. We finished on 122/6 after our 26 overs, thus losing by 101 runs. Junior A Boys - Lost 204/6 against Auckland Grammar

DANCE SHOWCASE In recent years the Avondale College Dance Showcase has become one of the highlights on the school’s Performing Arts calendar, and last week’s performances showed once again the serious talent of our dance community. With more than 120 students taking to the stage in the two hour show, the audience was treated to a variety of dance styles; from hip hop to jazz, ballet, contemporary and more. Of particular note were the performances choreographed and performed by our Year 13 Scholarship students, with their dances communicating thought-provoking themes that were executed with imagination and technical expertise. Congratulations to Director of Dance Clare Jennings, teacher of Dance Kiaya Lupi, and the many other staff, backstage helpers, costume designers and most of all the performers for putting together such an entertaining evening of dance.

STUDENT ALLOWANCE Students planning to go to tertiary study after they leave school should apply for their Student Allowance or Loan by 16 December. StudyLink expects around 180,000 students to apply for their Student Allowance or Loan for the 2017 academic year. Applying by 16 December means StudyLink can get everything sorted so that the student receives their funding from the start of their course. Students don’t need to have their NCEA results or have locked down all their plans in order to apply. Their application can be updated as things are confirmed. It’s more important to allow enough time for all the steps in the application process to be completed. GENERAL • The first three days of exams involve Year 9 & Year 10 students. • Year 9 exams are in Social Science, Mathematics, English and Science and Languages. • Year 10 exams are in Social Science, Mathematics, English and Science and in Option subjects. • Year 10 option exams run according to student’s timetable. • Most exams are 2 hours, but not all. Exams will run for periods 1 & 2 and periods 4 & 5. • Normal timetable runs period 3. • If an exam is not 2 hours then the students involved will be required to wait in the classroom until the 2 hour time period is completed. • On Friday 4th November periods 4 and 5 will be normal timetable classes for Year 10. For Year 9 the morning will be normal timetable. • Science, Mathematics, Social Science and English exams are 2 hours. • Option exams for Year 10 only are on Friday morning as well as Monday morning and afternoon. • No study leave is given to junior students during these exams. • No permission is given for appointments during the exam days. • A medical certificate will be required for an absence from an exam due to illness. • When sitting exams, normal school discipline applies. • All junior home classrooms have been changed to the same as their exam for the core exams. • Exams are to start promptly at 9.15am in the morning and 1.15pm in the afternoon. • CIE exams will be taking place at the same time as junior exams and as such junior students will be asked to keep away from E block area at all times, including movement behind E block to the front of the school. • NCEA exams will begin on the Friday during junior exams, with one exam Drama scholarship being held over in A block. Students will be asked to stay away from this area on the Friday morning.

EXAMINATION ROOMS The Examination room schedule will be displayed daily around the Transverse Corridor and library areas and published in the yellow pages. The exam begins the moment distribution of papers starts. Total silence is necessary from then on. Listen carefully for additional instructions or correction of misprints. Check that you have the correct paper with all pages correctly printed. Read instructions carefully. During the examination, students must not communicate with other candidates, copy from another candidate’s work, borrow any equipment or make undue noise or disturb other candidates. • No student is to leave the exam room until full time has expired. • Uniform and appearance must be of the required standard.
