Jeanne Crain is president and chief executive officer of Bremer Financial Corporation, a $13 billion financial services organization with locations in Minnesota,

As CEO since November 2016, Jeanne has combined her extensive industry knowledge with decades of leadership experience to advance the company’s strategy and performance, champion Bremer’s purpose and values, and deliver on its commitment to help communities thrive. Before being promoted to her current role, Jeanne served as region CEO of Bremer Bank - Twin Cities and group president for Bremer Financial Corporation’s financial services business. Prior to joining Bremer in 2012, Jeanne enjoyed a 30-year career in commercial and retail banking, honing her collaborative leadership style, passion for relationship-based client service and ability to navigate a highly dynamic business environment through roles at BMO Harris Bank, M&I Bank, Marquette Capital Bank, Bank One Milwaukee and First Bank Grand Forks. As an active volunteer and community leader, Jeanne serves on the board of the YMCA of the North, the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, and the Saint Paul Downtown Alliance. She also recently co-chaired the Minnesota Task Force on Housing. Jeanne earned a master’s in business administration from Marquette University and has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota, where she was a 2018 recipient of the Sioux Award, the highest honor given by the Alumni Association and Foundation for achievement, service and loyalty. Jeanne has recently been recognized by American Banker as a Woman to Watch as a part of their 2020 Most Powerful Women in Finance recognition, and by the Minneapolis/ St. Paul Business Journal as one of their 2019 Most Admired CEOs. She was also named a 2019 Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest Hall of Fame Laureate. Jeanne is married and has three young-adult sons.

Today is a time like no other. Avivo remains a stabilizing force in the Twin Cities and central Minnesota, amidst the stress and impact of COVID-19 and the civil unrest sparked by the murder of George Floyd. 2020 Celebrated Community Leader Target Avivo’s Celebrated Community Leader Award honors an individual or community partner who is driving positive change in our community. This year’s award recognizes Target for advancing inclusion and equity for all through its longstanding support of Avivo and impact in our communities. As early as 1982, Target provided support to Avivo to help low-income and underemployed women advance their wages and better support their families. Their support enabled Avivo to help women increase their income by at least 50 percent in a year! Target also joined Avivo in its efforts to end homelessness by supporting our transitional recovery housing. Safe housing makes all the difference and allows individuals to focus on recovery. Over the years, 180 Target employees have volunteered in multiple ways which benefitted families and children in our programs. Recently, Target made a multi-year commitment to Avivo’s EMPATH program – which creates a bridge to permanent self-sufficiency by focusing on family stability, well-being, financial management, education, and employment. Target is committed to innovative solutions for challenging, community problems. We recognize Target for upholding equity and inclusion for underserved and under-resourced communities that enable shared prosperity and opportunity for all. Thank you!

Kiera Fernandez In her current role, Kiera Fernandez serves as the Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. Kiera is responsible for leading and advancing Target’s enterprise-wide Diversity & Inclusion strategy as well as leading Target’s Supply Chain and Operations HR team and strategy. In addition to her human resource expertise, Kiera has an extensive background in retail operations, process and project management, store operations, and team leadership. Kiera began her career at Target in 2001, as an Executive Team Leader for Stores, subsequently serving in a variety of leadership roles. Since that time, Kiera has led teams in Merchandising, Stores, Operations and Human Resources. Over the last several years, she has continued to build a career across multiple HR functions. Kiera and her husband Dan are proud parents of Kaylan, Krystian, Kieryn, and Kaleb. She is a certified yoga instructor and spends much of her free time teaching and practicing at CorePower Yoga.

Melissa’s Story “I can’t believe where I am now,” shares Melissa, a tribal member of Red Lake Nation. “Avivo helped me get better. I am really grateful. With my place, I am healing.” Melissa described herself as a raging alcoholic. Homeless and actively using, she lived in a homeless encampment in Minneapolis. After Avivo helped her find housing, she stopped drinking and found support for her mental health. Today, she is working part-time and going to school to achieve her dream of running her own native business.

Jeremy’s Story “I’m looking to the future, and I look forward to having my children in my life again,” says Jeremy. Jeremy had a successful business, a beautiful home, and a happy family. Because of personal trauma, she fell into addiction, lost everything, and ended up on the streets. At Avivo, she was able to experience recovery. Now she is working and has found housing. She is looking forward to reuniting with her daughters.
