GIVING BACK

I’VE ALWAYS BELIEVED that a community’s true character shines brightest when its people come together—not just to celebrate, but to give back. Whether it’s donating time, sharing expertise or lending a helping hand, generosity has a way of multiplying, leaving an impact far greater than the original act.

This month’s issue is full of stories that celebrate that spirit. One shining example is our 5th Annual Wheels of Dreams Charity Experience (page 46), which brings together fine food, stunning cars and a powerful purpose—to support FullCircle’s work with young people facing addiction and mental health challenges and their families. It’s proof that when we unite around a cause, beauty and meaning go hand in hand.

But giving back isn’t always about a grand gesture. Sometimes it’s in the everyday ways we nurture our health, our spaces and each other—like creating a personal Zen retreat at home (Curating Stillness, page 24) or savoring a meal at a local gathering place with a mission, such as The Common Good (An Aurora Gem, page 16).

From Castle Rock’s remarkable evolution (Castle Rock’s Tectonic Shift, page 38) to breathtaking hikes that lead to Colorado’s most stunning waterfalls (Go With the Flow, page 58), this issue is a reminder that our choices—where we shop, dine and explore—can strengthen the place we call home.

I hope as you turn these pages, you’ll feel inspired to find your own way to give back this season. Because here in Colorado, generosity isn’t just something we do—it’s part of who we are.

The full-service lounge located right off the restaurant offers a menu of craft cocktails and mocktails, and an expansive wine, beer and liquor list. The handmade pastas simply cannot be skipped, including the pesto cavatelli if you’re looking for a classic option. The squid ink bucatini is for those looking to kick it up a notch–with gulf shrimp, heirloom tomato pomodoro and Calabrian chili. The showstopper entree?

That would be the seared cab coulotte steak. This dish comes with a side of asparagus and a special little plating of green goddess sauce with perfectly fried crab fritters overtop.

The SecretScalp

Why HEAD-TO-TOE wellness starts at the top

SCALP HEALTH is an often-overlooked aspect of a person’s well-being, and yet it can influence not only hair growth and appearance but also help protect against serious conditions. Implementing regular care for your scalp can lead to healthier hair, clearer skin and a stronger sense of overall vitality.

But what does it mean to look after your scalp?

While some might assume it’s a tough, self-sustaining area, the scalp is simply skin—part of the body’s largest organ—and deserves the same kind of care and attention as the rest of it. Protecting your scalp from excessive sun exposure should be the first obvious step, though many people forget to shield their heads when applying sunscreen. Dr. Renee Pride, a

Denver-based board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon, says she sees a surprising amount of skin cancer on the scalp—including on people with thick hair. “People living in Denver are at a higher risk due to the altitude,” she says. “That, combined with the amount of sunshine we get and all the outdoor activity, means nature and sports lovers should be extra cautious.”

Fortunately, prevention is simple. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat or applying sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide can significantly reduce your risk of developing skin cancer on the scalp. Regular skin checks are essential, too—look for new bumps, scabbing, irritation or discoloration, and have anything unusual evaluated by a board-certified dermatologist.

Dermatologists also recommend tailoring your hair-washing routine to your scalp’s needs. For many people, washing every two to three days is ideal. However, if you experience scalp conditions such as dandruff, eczema, or psoriasis, more frequent cleansing—sometimes even daily with a medical-grade shampoo—can help manage symptoms and alleviate irritation. Focus on massaging the scalp rather than just washing the hair, Dr. Pride says, to get the most benefit.

Scalp massage itself is a powerful tool that can improve both scalp and full-body health. Thanh Vo of Pur Artistry compares it to caring for a garden: “With a vegetable garden, you have to rake the soil because healthy roots are important for the healthy growth on top. With hair, the follicle—the root—is where the blood is. When you massage, you’re promoting blood flow to the scalp and encouraging healthy growth.”

Beyond encouraging hair growth, massaging and exfoliating the scalp can address broader physical issues, such as temporomandibular joint disorder, sleep disturbances and headaches. Alison Cox, owner of Alivio Massage Therapy, explains that fascia lines begin in the scalp and connect all the way down to your feet. “If anything in your scalp gets tight—from typing, sitting, running or staring at your phone—it creates tension patterns that can affect your entire body,” she says. “Even the slightest scrunching while you’re sitting can affect the muscles in your neck and head and trigger headaches. Scalp therapy is awesome because it works on the whole body.”

Even everyday choices, such as how you wear your hair, can make a difference. Looser hairstyles, especially during exercise, help reduce tension on the scalp and protect against hair thinning caused by traction.

Overall, your scalp deserves the same care you give your skin and body. With sun protection, mindful cleansing and a little TLC, you can turn scalp care into a soothing, health-boosting ritual that benefits you from head to toe.

CURATING STILLNESS

CREATE A PERSONAL ZEN YOGA RETREAT RIGHT AT HOME

IN A WORLD that moves faster every day, the desire for a space of stillness is no longer a luxury—it’s essential. While faraway retreats can be transformative, the truth is you can create a sanctuary for your practice without ever leaving home. With a little intention, your living space can become a Zen yoga retreat—a space dedicated to nourishing your body, clearing your mind and restoring your spirit.

The beauty of building your own retreat lies in its personal nature. Every detail can be designed to resonate with you: the way the light filters into the room, the grounding texture under your feet, the subtle scent in the air. The perfect blueprint includes an open, airy room anchored in nature’s palette, softened by organic textures and infused with simplicity.

START WITH SPACE AND LIGHT

A Zen retreat begins with openness—both physical and mental. If you have the luxury of a dedicated room, choose one that receives natural light. Sunlight spilling across a wood or neutral toned floor not only feels inviting but also signals to your body that this is a place of vitality.

If you’re working with a smaller home or shared space, carve out a corner near a window. Sheer curtains flanked with greenery created a clear

message: light is a partner in your practice. Let it move across your space throughout the day, reminding you that change is natural.

CHOOSE A CALMING COLOR PALETTE

Soft earth tones—muted whites, sand, warm beiges, and gentle grays—are the foundation of a Zen inspired retreat. These hues quiet visual noise, helping the mind settle.

If repainting isn’t an option, introduce these shades through accessories and accents. A warm beige yoga mat, off white curtains or a light gray cushion can shift the mood of a space without major changes. Keep patterns subtle, leaning toward solids or barely there designs, so the overall effect remains serene.

Once the colors are in place, you can layer in complementary textures—linen, wool, bamboo— that enhance the palette without overpowering it. The goal is harmony: every color and texture working together to create a calm, cohesive environment.

GROUND YOUR PRACTICE WITH NATURAL ELEMENTS

Nature is the heartbeat of Zen. Rooms that breathe serenity often draw from the outdoors— potted plants, raw wood accents, woven

baskets and stone like ceramics. These are not ornamental additions; they’re reminders of the world beyond walls.

A potted fiddle leaf fig, snake plant or even a few succulents can transform a corner into a micro oasis. Wooden blocks or a handcrafted stool can double as both decor and function. If space allows, consider a small indoor water feature—the sound of trickling water can melt away tension before you even begin your practice.

If possible, position your retreat near a view— whether it’s a garden, balcony or even a city tree framed by a window. You can also bring the outside in with fresh flowers, seasonal branches or natural fiber rugs that feel like an extension of the earth beneath your feet.

KEEP IT MINIMAL BUT INTENTIONAL Clutter is the enemy of stillness. Keep only what’s needed: a yoga mat, a low bench, a few well chosen accessories. This isn’t about stripping away personality—it’s about making every piece earn its place.

Instead of filling shelves with random decor, display only what inspires calm: a single framed print, a small clay bowl, a neatly folded blanket. In a Zen yoga retreat, emptiness is not absence—it’s

presence. The space between objects holds as much value as the objects themselves.

INCORPORATE SCENT AND SOUND

Engaging the senses deepens your practice. Place a diffuser on a low table with calming essential oils like lavender, sandalwood or eucalyptus. A stick of Japanese incense can create a ritual of lighting it before you step onto the mat.

For sound, a small speaker can play soft ambient music, Tibetan singing bowls or nature recordings. Even silence has its place here. The key is to make sound a conscious choice, not everyday background noise.

DESIGN FOR FLEXIBILITY

Your retreat should support all aspects of your practice—movement, meditation and rest. A clean mat ready for asana, with a meditation cushion nearby, allows you to transition seamlessly between flow and stillness.

A folding screen or low bookshelf can divide the space if you need to shift from practice to work

during the day. Having a basket for your yoga props—blocks, straps, bolsters—keeps the space tidy and makes setup effortless.

CREATE RITUALS AROUND YOUR SPACE

A Zen yoga retreat is as much about how you use it as how it looks. Begin each session by entering mindfully: light a candle, open a window or simply take three deep breaths at the threshold.

Rituals anchor your mind to the present moment. When you consistently engage with your space in this way, your body learns to associate it with calm and focus. Over time, just stepping into the space will shift your state of mind.

MAKE IT YOURS

While the principles of a Zen retreat are universal—simplicity, nature, intention—the details should be personal. Maybe you place a journal nearby to capture thoughts after meditation. Hang a favorite mantra on the wall, or display a travel keepsake that reminds you of a transformative trip. This is your refuge. The more it reflects your needs and values, the more powerful it will be.

A SPACE TO RETURN TO

The world outside will never stop moving. Deadlines will press, messages will ping, traffic will hum. But when you have a space in your home dedicated to stillness, you carry an anchor with you.

A true Zen retreat is not just beautifully styled— it’s an invitation. It invites you to slow down, to breathe, to remember that peace is always available. You don’t have to wait for a retreat weekend or a vacation to feel it.

YOU CAN FIND IT HERE. In this corner. On this mat. In this breath.

Everyday Luxe

How Caliber’s curated new build blends neighborhood charm with luxury and livability

ALTHOUGH THIS HOME is brand new, it doesn’t stand out in contrast to older homes on the street—and that’s precisely the point. “We try to stay within the means of the community, so it feels like you’re not the eyeball on the block,” says Brad Liber, founder of Caliber. That intention is baked into the residential builder’s approach to luxury: an elegant, curated sensibility that respects the character of the neighborhood while delivering the kind of quality and experience that makes people fall in love with their homes.

What’s striking throughout the home is how nothing feels forced, yet everything feels intentional. Caliber collaborates with outside architects and designers by design. For this project, they collaborated with Robinson Architecture & Design, an Evergreen-based firm, which handled both architecture and interior selections. That flexibility allows each home to take on its own identity, while still fitting Caliber’s elevated yet approachable aesthetic.

“We’re not trying to push one style,” Liber explains. “That’s part of our business model. We want to work with designers and architects who help us tailor each home to what makes sense—for the site, the neighborhood and the people who will live there.”

It’s a model that requires more communication and a deeper investment in project management—but Liber sees that as a competitive edge. “Communication is where a lot of builders fall apart. We’ve built a process that’s client-forward, and that’s not typical in custom building,” he says.

This Wash Park residence is technically a spec home, but you’d never guess that from its deeply considered design. Built with what Liber calls an “everyday

luxury” philosophy, the home was designed to appeal to a range of buyers—executives with kids, downsizers, even retirees—by anticipating how people truly use their space. “It’s not the sports car you can’t drive ninety-nine percent of the time,” he says. “It’s the one you drive every day.”

The home’s exterior blends seamlessly with the surrounding neighborhood thanks to a palette of red brick and classic forms. But a closer look reveals subtle modern cues: oversized windows, a massive 4-by-10-foot entry door, and steel-and-glass detailing of the office in the front of the home, looking out on the street. “The front door is two-and-a-quarter inches thick,” Liber notes. “You feel like you’re really entering somewhere.” It sets the tone for what’s inside—thoughtful design that combines presence and practicality.

Inside, the layout flows with purpose. The main level is open and light-filled, framed by 10-foot ceilings and massive windows that erase the boundary between indoors and out. The office, positioned at the front of the home, is enclosed with steel-framed glass sliders. “It’s a space where you can get out of the way—whether

for work or pleasure—and still embrace the family,” Liber says. There’s even a reading nook to encourage that pause-andbreathe moment we all wish we had more of.

The kitchen and adjacent dining area serve as the heart of the home, and they’ve been smartly planned to do double duty: cozy enough for a family dinner, elevated enough to host a formal gathering. “We didn’t want to tuck a little nook off in the corner,” Liber says. “This is a true eat-in space that seats six to eight, right in the mix of everything.” A discreetly positioned wraparound bar area serves as a beverage station, coffee bar and hideaway for appliances—designed to be convenient but not visually intrusive.

The open floorplan area of the home boasts a feature that’s both functional and design-forward: a custom stair wall design. It’s a detail that speaks to the firm’s goal of balancing aesthetics with livability.

Upstairs, the bedrooms deliver quiet elegance, each space enhanced by vaulted ceilings—an element many buyers can’t quite name, but instantly appreciate.

“People often don’t know how to ask for it, but they know something just feels better,” says Liber. That feeling continues in the primary suite, where hardwood floors ground the room and natural light pours in. The bath features heated floors, a five-and-a-halffoot soaking tub, and a frameless Euro-glass shower outlined by a sleek quartz surround. Even the primary closet is thoughtfully tailored with built-ins designed for actual use—jewelry storage, sweater shelves and more.

A small but mighty loft space sits at the top of the stairs. Instead of leaving it open with a railing, Caliber enclosed the space with a half-wall to give it more function and privacy. It’s an ideal spot for homework or reading—an example of how the design squeezes intentionality out of every square foot.

In the basement, that sense of polish and purpose continues. A large lounge space anchors the level, flanked by a gym outfitted with mirrored walls, rubber flooring, and a spa-style glass door. A small wet bar across from the gym adds spa functionality—or full entertaining capability, depending on the owner’s lifestyle. Just beyond is a flex space ready to become whatever’s needed: a

poker room, a playroom, a teen hangout. “We’re always thinking about how people are going to use the space—not just how it looks on paper,” Liber says.

That mindset extends to the home’s outdoor areas, even on a relatively compact city lot. At the front, a patio space off the office invites morning coffee or a casual neighbor chat. In back, the rear patio extends along the garage and creates a cozy, defined entertaining space, even without a sprawling yard.

For Caliber, it all comes back to the idea of everyday luxury: the kind of quality and beauty that doesn’t require compromise. “We want our clients to feel proud, comfortable, and happy to have guests over,” Liber says. “And we want their homes to feel like they just work—like they were made for the way you actually live.”

Whether You Have Complex Dental Problems Or Just Want to Beautify Your Smile Barotz Dental Can Help You.

At Barotz Dental, world-class care meets zero judgment. Discover how Dr. Charles Barotz transforms lives with fast, full-service dentistry designed to restore confidence, health and joy in just one visit.

For Dr. Charles S. Barotz, dentistry has never just been a career—it’s been a lifelong calling. “Since I was eight years old, I knew I wanted to be a dentist,” he says. “I loved arts and crafts, even as a kid. Dentistry gave me the perfect blend of creativity, precision and the opportunity to help people in profound, lasting ways.”

After nearly five decades in practice, Dr. Barotz still shows up every day with passion and purpose. “We’re not just fixing teeth. We’re helping people reclaim their confidence, their health and sometimes even their lives,” he says. “People who haven’t smiled in years suddenly light up the room. People who couldn’t chew their favorite foods are dining joyfully again. It’s incredibly fulfilling.”

A Different Kind of Dentistry

“We’ve built a system that prioritizes both quality and efficiency,” Dr. Barotz says. “I call it Q²: Quality Quickly. Anyone can do quality work slowly. But if you can deliver world-class results without the typical delays, that’s transformative.”

This streamlined model saves patients months of waiting and unnecessary back-and-forth between offices. “In the traditional setup, complex cases can take four to six months or longer. In our practice, we can often complete a full smile transformation in days—or even one visit.”

A Safe, Judgment-Free Zone

What sets Dr. Barotz’s practice apart is a bold and innovative philosophy he calls Total Dental Solutions—a comprehensive, all-under-one-roof approach to care. Unlike the conventional dental model, which sends patients to multiple specialists for different procedures, Dr. Barotz and his team handle virtually everything in-house: root canals, extractions, implants, gum treatment, cosmetic makeovers—you name it.

But fast results aren’t everything. What truly resonates with patients is the welcoming, nonjudgmental environment Dr. Barotz has created. “So many people avoid the dentist out of fear—not just fear of pain, but fear of being scolded or judged for letting their teeth deteriorate,” he explains. “That’s not what we’re about.”

Dr. Barotz has designed his practice to be a safe space, especially for those who’ve been hiding their smiles for years. “We don’t care how long it’s been or what your teeth look like now. We’re here to help you feel whole again, not to make you feel ashamed.”

Dr. Charles Barotz

The Art and Science of Confidence

While some people seek out Dr. Barotz for functional issues, others come for purely aesthetic reasons—and he welcomes them all. “Some call it vanity, but I call it confidence,” he says. “When your smile matches your personality, your success, your spirit—that’s powerful.”

He recalls treating a chemical engineer with noticeable gaps in his teeth. After receiving veneers on both his upper and lower teeth, the patient later returned and shared that his professional presentations were being taken more seriously. He believed his previous smile had led others to underestimate his intelligence. The experience stuck with the doctor. “That’s what drives me—helping people align their outer image with their inner success.”

Experience That Speaks Volumes

Dr. Barotz has dedicated his career to mastering every facet of dentistry so his patients don’t have to wait, worry or wonder what’s next. From lifechanging full-mouth restorations to cosmetic enhancements and advanced implant solutions, his office is a destination for people who want fast, expert care under one roof.

Whether you’re struggling with a compromised mouth or simply want to love your smile again, Dr. Barotz offers something rare in today’s dental world: total solutions, extraordinary results and zero judgment.

CASTLE ROCK’S TECTONIC SHIFT

Once a sleepy stop between two cities, this booming town is stepping confidently into the spotlight

ONCE A QUIET, unassuming suburb, Castle Rock has undergone a transformation that’s nothing short of seismic. In just a few decades, this charming town between Denver and Colorado Springs has grown into one of Colorado’s most desirable destinations for families, day-trippers and new residents looking for a blend of historic character, outdoor access and modern amenities. The numbers tell part of the story: In 2010,

Castle Rock was home to just more than 48,000 people. A decade later, that number soared past 73,000, a population increase of more than 51 percent according to the 2020 US Census, with more recent estimates putting that number closer to 80,000. And while recent years have seen growth slow slightly—mirroring trends across the region—the momentum here hasn’t wavered. That spirit of expansion isn’t new to the

region. Long before settlers arrived chasing gold in the mid-1800s, the area was home to the Arapahoe and Cheyenne peoples. Many gold-seekers stayed after discovering rhyolite, a silica-rich volcanic rock covering the region as a result of a volcanic eruption some 37 million years ago. Silica is used in everything from construction to food production, making it a hot commodity for Coloradans looking to forge success. That stone would eventually also give the town its name, thanks to the distinctively rugged butte that rises dramatically above the skyline, visible from just about everywhere in town.

Today, Castle Rock sits at the crossroads of I-25 and Highway 86, a convenient location that’s helped make it a go-to destination for growing families and people seeking a vibrant downtown, scenic hiking trails, abundant shopping and—more than anything—a sense of community that feels both authentic and modern.

A NEW DOWNTOWN

As Castle Rock has grown, so has its identity—and nowhere is that more evident than downtown. For many years, the area remained relatively quiet, known more for its sleepy streets than for lively shopping or dining. But that began to change in the late 1990s when local entrepreneurs began reinvesting in the town’s historic core.

Among the pioneers was Catherine Haigh, who opened The Barn Antiques & Specialty Shops in 1998 inside a former Douglas County Lumber Company Mercantile building. The structure, with its preserved doors, windows and original wood finishes, is now home to more than a dozen vendors selling everything from furniture to curated home decor, kitchen goods to dog treats and much more.

“In 1998, Castle Rock was tiny. There wasn’t any shopping downtown—outside of the outlet mall, there wasn’t much to draw people in,” Haigh

says. But timing is everything. Her decision to open came just as the other local entrepreneurs began planning to bring different industries to the downtown area. What followed was a flurry of business openings, restorations and events that brought a new energy to the area. Today, the district is a destination in its own right—full of restaurants, ice cream shops, bookstores, antique dealers and specialty boutiques.

“Even after 27 years, we have people that come in and say, ‘I’ve lived here for 20 years and for some reason, I didn’t know you were here,” Haigh says, pointing to those interactions as proof that Castle Rock is still growing and evolving, even decades after she initially opened the doors of The Barn.

Just steps away from The Barn is Sunday Afternoon Simple Living, another downtown staple and go-to destination for fans of vintage finds. Owner Linda Harlas has long appreciated Castle Rock’s appeal, calling it the perfect setting for a nostalgic, small-town shopping experience.

“It’s a little town and little towns always have stores like this,” she says.

Sunday Afternoon Simple Living has been a favorite for locals and travelers alike for many years in the Denver area, before relocating to Castle Rock nearly eight years ago.

Harlas spoke of some who’d just recently found the store. “She said, ‘It’s like coming into a warm hug.’ It almost made me cry.”

“Castle Rock’s a destination these days, and people are always looking for something like this,” says Lisa Dimond, an employee of the store. Dimond relocated to Castle Rock five years ago and fell in love with Sunday Afternoon Simple living as a shopper before landing a job at the store.

“This was my store that I always went to for two years,” she says, adding that regulars have visited the store since it opened.

“She has such a following, people that have come here since she opened,” Dimond says of Harlas and the store. “They continue to come to see what her treasures are after she goes on buying trips.”

The historic downtown has also become known for its exciting dining scene, with institutions like the B&B Cafe serving up breakfast, burgers and more for more than 70 years. The diner is as beloved for its food as for its stories—some of which go back to a 1946 shootout inside the restaurant, others from more recent lease disputes that have drawn community-wide support.

Across the street, Castle Cafe continues its own

storied legacy. Once a watering hole for cowboys who famously rode horses into the bar, it later became a landmark for road-trippers. These days, it represents the town’s unique blend of history and hospitality.

In a town full of new beginnings, these shops and restaurants remind visitors that Castle Rock’s charm is rooted in its history.

EXPANDING HORIZONS

Of course, it’s not just antique shops and cafés that have put Castle Rock on the map. The Outlets at Castle Rock—Colorado’s largest openair outlet center—draws shoppers from across the state with brand names like Coach, Nike, The

North Face and Swarovski. Just beyond that, the Promenade at Castle Rock adds even more to the mix, with grocers, pet stores and restaurants spanning more than 160 acres.

The economic developments of the area have come with some minor tension from locals, says Tara Vargish, the town’s development services director, who noted that traffic can be a pain point for some residents.

“We do have residents question our plans for traffic improvements,” she says, noting that capital improvement plans are constantly being developed to address issues like traffic and water use that come naturally with growth.

Despite the occasional growing pains, residents of the town have also reported being pleased with the growth.

“We hear a lot of excitement about the new restaurants that have opened downtown or the new medical providers that are in town,” she explains. “We see the positives of growth where folks see new amenities that they haven’t seen down here before, and they don’t feel they need to go visit other communities.”

Vargish adds, “When residents have friends or family come and meet them downtown, everyone’s always impressed. They’re like: ‘Wow, look at the vibrancy and the life—little ice cream shops and the bike stores!’”

Despite a great deal of attention being given to the developments around town, Vargish and her team are dedicated to helping to preserve the local businesses, both big and small.

“The revitalization downtown over the last couple of years has brought in multifamily residences to downtown, and we’ve heard from some of our existing businesses that although they may not have been making changes, they have seen consistent growth in their patrons since there’s more folks visiting downtown,” she explained.

Additionally, Vargish’s team works on informational campaigns to share information about renovations, parking and more to keep Castle Rock’s historic downtown running smoothly.

SCENIC BY DESIGN

Even as development continues, Castle Rock has never lost sight of what makes Colorado living desirable to so many: the outdoors.

Since 2008, the Castle Rock Town Council has invested in sustainability and conservation through land preservation, clean energy initiatives and water efficiency programs. The town, in partnership with Douglas County, has preserved hundreds of acres of open space— some for recreation, others to protect wildlife habitat.

The endangered Preble’s meadow jumping mouse, native to the area, is one of several species the town actively monitors and protects. But it’s not just about environmental stewardship—it’s about livability.

“Residents like that Castle Rock is a little different than some other communities they’ve looked at because we have so much connected open space and trails,” she says. “You can easily get outside from your front door. You don’t have to drive up to the foothills or the state park that’s nearby.”

Popular trails and parks like Rock Park, Mitchell Creek Canyon and Chuck’s Loop offer residents of all fitness levels the chance to enjoy Colorado’s stunning scenery right in their backyard.

HEART AND SOUL

Located just 28 miles south of Denver and 40

miles north of Colorado Springs, it offers both convenience and separation from the state’s busier hubs. But what makes Castle Rock more than just a commuter town is its thriving sense of identity—built on local pride and a deep appreciation for community.

Residents like Virginia and Andy Love, who live just south of town, say Castle Rock’s central location was part of the draw—but it’s the community feel that keeps them here.

“They do amazing things like this outdoor market all the time,” Virginia says. “Between the fair and the concerts at the park—it’s a real community.”

Newer arrivals feel it too. Newlyweds McKay and Shae Inman moved to Castle Rock after falling in love with the town during their very first house-hunting visit.

“We like the smaller town vibe compared to Denver,” McKay shares. “It’s very family-friendly, walkable, outdoorsy, the parks are awesome.”

Whether visiting for a day or staying a lifetime, Castle Rock offers a rare blend of modern vibrancy and small-town soul—a surefire reason for rapid growth in this once small community.

Celebrating Five Years of Giving

WHEELS OF DREAMS 2025 will be a night of indulgence, impact and inspiration

FOR ONE DAZZLING night in September, beneath the high ceilings and warm lights of Denver’s Hangar Club, indulgence meets intention. The 5th Annual Wheels of Dreams Charity Experience, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, is more than just an extraordinary evening of food, music and luxury—it’s a movement in motion. Presented by AvidLifestyle and Colorado AvidGolfer—and title sponsor Central Bank—this signature event raises critical support for FullCircle, a nonprofit devoted to helping young people struggling with addiction and mental health and their families. The event was created with an eye on keeping it local.

“Big charity events are wonderful, but people don’t realize the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised that go out of state to the national charity’s home office, and there is very little attrition that comes back into help local kids and families,” says Lori Perry, event director. “I wanted to have a direct effect and help as many local kids and families as possible with Wheels of Dreams.”

If last year’s success is any indication, this year’s event promises an even greater impact. At the heart of it all is the belief that healing begins with community. And Wheels of Dreams is community at its most vibrant.

“Wheels of Dreams is proof that when a community comes together with purpose, incredible things happen,” says Allen Walters, publisher of AvidLifestyle and Colorado AvidGolfer. “It’s not just an event—it’s a reflection of our shared values and a powerful reminder that generosity and joy can go hand in hand.”

A TASTE OF THE EXTRAORDINARY

The phrase “Indulge in the Extraordinary” isn’t just a marketing slogan—it’s a promise fulfilled at every turn. Guests are welcomed into a curated world of luxury and delight. Ten gourmet food stations present a global spread of tastes and textures, crafted by Colorado’s most celebrated chefs and culinary brands.

Pair it all with wine, beer and handcrafted cocktails from Delicato Family Wines, Mile High Spirits, Rocker Spirits, Turnbuckle Distilling and Anheuser-Busch, and the night becomes an experience for all the senses.

CARS, CULTURE, AND COMMUNITY

For lovers of the automotive arts, the Wheels of Dreams event is a fantasy fulfilled. Guests can get up close with more than 30 exotic, classic and luxury vehicles from personal collections and elite sponsors like Mike Ward of Mike Ward Automotive and Joe Nguyen and Suong Dang, owners of Dream Makers Landscape. Additionally, Bentley of Denver will showcase several vehicles.

Art and music provide another immersive layer. Attendees can meet local creatives, enjoy live music by Narrow Gauge, dance to DJ sets under the stars and relax in exquisitely designed lounges courtesy of Howard Lorton Furniture & Design and Lehrer Fireplace & Patio. With hands-on activities, the silent and live auctions offer guests a chance at fabulous prizes, including a treasured trip to Tuscany on the auction block this year. As always, Trice Jewelers is sponsoring its Champagne Diamond Giveaway—a favorite part of the event!

A PARTY WITH PURPOSE

What elevates this event from a glamorous gathering to a transformational force is its mission: all proceeds go directly to FullCircle, an organization dedicated to helping teens facing addiction. Founded in Denver in 2019, FullCircle began in the unlikeliest of places—a Starbucks parking lot where five families gathered with folding chairs and a shared hope for recovery. With no funding, no building and no guarantees, they built a sanctuary out of trust and courage.

Today, FullCircle operates five locations across Colorado—including thriving chapters in Centennial, Boulder and Colorado Springs—and is recognized as the largest recovery community organization in the U.S. serving youth ages 13 to 25. The program is entirely free for participants and offers peerled support groups, sober social events and wraparound services for entire families. Teens find connection through themed game nights and sporting events, while parents attend their own group sessions designed to strengthen the family bond.

“The level of help FullCircle provides is the glue between the cracks,” says program director Ben Stincer. A former participant himself, Stincer’s journey from struggling teen to leader and mentor underscores the power of peer

support. “If you just save people, all they need is more saving,” he says. “But if you teach them how to save themselves, they can continue to do that forever.”

GROWTH FUELED BY GIVING

As demand for FullCircle’s services grows, so does the need for funding. That’s where Wheels of Dreams comes in. “We hope this event can help us hire more staff and expand our Centennial location,” Stincer explains. “The more people who know about FullCircle, the more families we can support.”

Since its inception, FullCircle has helped more than 500 families access critical recovery resources at no cost. Participants come from every walk of life—CEOs and single parents, teens from privilege and teens from poverty—proving that addiction and mental health challenges don’t discriminate. What unites them is the path forward, paved with compassion, structure and community.

BUILDING DREAMS, ONE NIGHT AT A TIME

Now in its fifth year, Wheels of Dreams is a much-anticipated charity event in the Denver area. From its elegant lounges and surprise performances to its cause-driven purpose, the event embodies the best of what charity can be: impactful, intentional and unforgettable.

“Here we are five years later, and we have raised more than $338,000—every penny of which has stayed in our community helping local kids and families,” Perry says. “This event is my heart of hearts, and I am so glad it has been such a success.”

Whether you come for the food, the fun or the fabulous wheels, you’ll leave knowing that you helped make a difference. And that’s the real luxury.

FASHION FORECAST

Fall trends to punch up your wardrobe

IN A CITY WHERE style is shaped by afternoons at breweries and weekends on the trail—and where Patagonia often holds more sway than Prada— the glitz of Fashion Week can feel like a distant world. But make no mistake: the trends debuting on this season’s runways won’t stay tucked away in glossy magazines or haute couture circles. They’ll trickle down into everyday wardrobes, subtly shaping what we wear.

If your current outfit rotation is falling flat, get inspired by the trending styles for fall 2025. From unexpected color palettes and bold silhouettes to standout accessories, these fashion forward updates are guaranteed to bring new life—and a dose of chic—to your wardrobe.

COLOR CRUSH

Move over, neutrals—two striking hues are taking center stage this fall. Purple and green are turning heads on Fashion Week runways with statement making appeal. Powerhouses like Hermès, Prada and Saint Laurent embraced pistachio green with a ’70s twist, while Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera leaned into rich, regal tones of deep purple— officially dubbed “Italian plum.”

These fashion forward colors are an easy way to elevate even the most basic outfit. Consider opting for an edgy pistachio colored boot in lieu of black or brown or swap your typical cardigan or sweater for one in a deep berry hue. Bonus points for a monochromatic look—an Italian plum knit matched with a coordinating skirt creates an effortlessly polished, on trend statement.

HIGHLY EXAGGERATED

This season’s outerwear is all about volume. From the drapey, scarf like coats shown by Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors to Versace’s duvet inspired wrap coats, bigger is better this fall. Contemporary brands like Acne Studios, Coach and Balenciaga had their own take on the trend with sophisticated, floor dusting trench coats and leather jackets.

If you’re embracing the oversized trend, don’t shy away from a little drama. Layer a slouchy cape coat over a tonal shift dress or wide leg trousers, and finish the look with pointed toe leather boots. With the right accessories, even the most exaggerated outerwear can look sophisticated and put together. Or, if you’re keen on a more streamlined silhouette, play with proportion through length—an ankle grazing coat makes a bold statement without the bulk.

New Finch Trench Coat, $298, ARITZIA or aritzia.com

ACQUIRED WAIST

The must have accessory of the season? The statement belt. From wrap belts cinching voluminous coats to maximalist stacks slung low on the hips, at Maison Schiaparelli, this trend dominated the runways in every form. Louis Vuitton showcased a wide leather belt layered over a voluminous tulle skirt and structured knit—a striking blend of texture and silhouette that felt unexpectedly modern and undeniably cool.

Whether you go bold with an oversized statement or keep it sleek and minimal, this trend offers an effortless way to elevate any outfit. Cinch a classic leather belt around an oversized blazer to create a flattering silhouette and bring an element of femininity to menswear inspired tailoring. For a playful twist, experiment with unexpected colors or eye catching buckles to breathe new life into timeless pieces. We The Free Norfolk Hip Belt, $68, FREE PEOPLE at Park Meadows or freepeople.com

OFFICE REVIVAL

Secretary chic has stepped out of the office and onto the runway. Pencil skirts and blouses made a daring return—some, like Givenchy and Calvin Klein, kept it classic with tailored suits, while Dior gave the look an edge with a corset, graphic tee and knee high boots. Blouses also got a dramatic refresh in silky fabrics with strong shoulders, plunging necklines and billowy sleeves.

If you choose to take this secretarial style to the streets, be sure to give it some flair. Opt for eye catching fabrics and get creative with prints and colors (hello, pistachio and Italian plum!) If your wardrobe tends to be more casual, lean into that—think pencil skirts paired with a lived in tee or tough leather jacket.

ON THE DOT

Polka dots are officially making a comeback. Though this sixties mod print has long been overshadowed by edgy animal patterns and stripes, Fashion Week put it back in the spotlight—no pun intended. Designers like Isabel Marant and Moschino brought a fresh dose of whimsy with playful polka dotted dresses that are anything but predictable.

The secret to updating this retro pattern for today: keep it fresh. Pair a vintage inspired sheath with sleek, contemporary accessories like strappy heels and a structured handbag. For a more effortlessly modern vibe, opt for this peppy print on a dress with a current, fashion forward silhouette or in a vibrant jewel toned hue.

ANIMAL MAGNETISM

Faux fur and animal prints are Fashion Week regulars—and this season is no exception. Textured faux fur jackets are an easy, stylish way to add depth to your look while staying warm during Colorado’s late fall chill. As for leopard and cheetah prints, the soft black and brown contrast keeps them in the “neutral” category according to many fashion experts, making them a go to pattern for on trend autumn styling.

Want to level up your look for 2025? Toss a faux fur coat over a graphic tee and your favorite jeans for an ensemble that’s equal parts effortless and ultra cool. Or try a statement accessory like a fuzzy stole or a cozy trapper hat. For a fresh twist on classic cheetah print, look for white spotted deer print pieces, like the elegant outerwear seen on the Tod’s runway.

Chloe Faux Fur Oversized Coat, $368, Reformation or thereformation.com

IN THE BAG

The “Messy Girl Aesthetic” is back—embraced by fashion TikTok’s It girls and top designers alike—and with it comes the resurgence of oversized, slouchy bags. If you’re not chronically online, the term refers to a style that favors comfort, creativity and practicality over perfection. Think of Jane Birkin and her iconic Hermès bag—well worn, overflowing and functional, not just an accessory.

Stella McCartney and Fendi showed soft, spacious totes— tucked under the arm like oversized clutches—while Coach went viral earlier this year with a supersized take on the antiquated kiss lock coin purse. Whether you’re drawn to the statement of an exaggerated tote or the laid back ease of a slouchy hobo, one thing is clear: functionality is officially fashionable.

Go With the Flow

From glacial gushers to tucked away trickles, COLORADO’S WATERFALLS reward hikers with breathtaking spectacles

THERE IS A MOMENT, just before a waterfall comes into view, when the world shifts. The air cools. The breeze carries a hush that sounds like movement. And then, through the trees or over the ridge, the water appears—tumbling from stone, leaping from heights, twisting into mist with the kind of showmanship that keeps hikers coming back for encore after encore.

This is a land shaped by water and time—by glacial runoff carving canyons, alpine springs feeding creeks, and snowmelt setting whole mountainsides in motion. And while Colorado is best known for its jagged peaks and high-altitude adventures, its waterfalls are the quiet, powerful punctuation marks on the landscape. They don’t announce themselves from afar. They wait— hidden in canyons, tucked into forests, spilling behind rocks or from unlikely heights—ready to offer awe to those who seek them.

Some falls roar. Others whisper. Some are steps from a roadside pull-off; others demand commitment, sweat, and elevation gain. All of them, though, offer something essential: perspective. A reminder of what endures, what flows, and what beauty looks like when it isn’t trying too hard.

Here’s your guide to some of the state’s most beautiful waterfalls—where to find them, when to go, and how to make the most of the journey.

HANGING LAKE & SPOUTING ROCK, GLENWOOD CANYON East of Glenwood Springs, the cliffs of Glenwood

Canyon hold a secret high above the river: Hanging Lake. This turquoise lake and its delicate waterfalls seem almost too pristine to be real. Water spills gently from mossy rocks into an emerald basin suspended on the edge of a cliff. Just a short stroll away, Spouting Rock erupts from the face of a limestone wall like a geyser, adding drama to the already mystical scene.

Getting there requires a 1.2-mile uphill hike on a rugged trail, and you’ll need to reserve a permit in advance—this place is protected for good reason. But if you want to feel like you’ve stumbled into a fairy tale, this is your moment.

Pro tip: Go early in the morning to beat the crowds and watch the sun rise through the canyon walls.

RIFLE FALLS, RIFLE FALLS STATE PARK

Short on time but still want maximum waterfall payoff? Head to Rifle Falls, a triple-threat waterfall that cascades 70 feet over a limestone ledge. With lush greenery and mist-drenched caverns behind the falls, the scene feels more Pacific Northwest than high desert. The park’s loop trail is only a half-mile, making it family-friendly and ideal for photographers.

What sets Rifle Falls apart—besides its triple cascade—is the system of small limestone caves behind and around the water. Bring a flashlight, or just embrace your inner child and wander into the shadows.

Pro tip: Camp at the nearby Rifle Falls State Park campground and enjoy the falls in the evening light, when the crowds thin and the cottonwoods whisper.

BRIDAL VEIL FALLS, TELLURIDE

Colorado’s tallest free-falling waterfall, Bridal Veil Falls, plunges a jaw-dropping 365 feet down a sheer cliff at the edge of Telluride.

Visible from almost every corner of town, it’s a landmark in its own right—and one of the most iconic waterfall hikes in the state.

You can hike, bike or even four-wheel up to the base of the falls. The trail is steep and rocky, but the views over Telluride’s box canyon make the climb feel cinematic. At the top, the historic power plant that once supplied electricity to the town still stands, clinging to the edge like a steampunk fortress.

Pro tip: If you’re not up for the hike, simply ride the gondola in Telluride and enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the falls across the valley.

NORTH CLEAR CREEK FALLS, NEAR LAKE CITY

Some waterfalls seduce you with subtlety. North Clear Creek Falls is not one of them. This beast of a waterfall drops 100 feet straight into a volcanic box canyon—and you don’t even have to leave the parking lot to see it.

Located between Creede and Lake City along the

Located inside AdventHealth Castle Rock 2350 Meadows Blvd, Castle Rock CO 80109

Silver Thread Scenic Byway, this is one of the state’s most photographed waterfalls. There’s a short trail to a viewpoint and a picnic area that makes it a perfect stop on a high-country road trip.

Pro tip: In late summer, pack a picnic and linger—wildflowers often bloom around the canyon rim, and the golden hour light makes the falls especially photogenic.

ZAPATA FALLS, NEAR GREAT

SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK

This one’s for the adventure-seekers. Zapata Falls isn’t the tallest or most showy on this list, but it might be the most memorable—because you have to wade through a creek and into a slot canyon to see it.

Just south of Great Sand Dunes National Park, this 25-foot waterfall is hidden inside a chilly, echoing chasm. The 0.9-mile trail to the creek is manageable, but to reach the falls themselves, you’ll need to get your feet wet—literally. It’s like discovering a secret in the folds of a mountain.

Pro tip: Wear water shoes, bring a headlamp, and prepare to squeal (the water is cold).

OUZEL FALLS, ROCKY

MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

In the Wild Basin area of RMNP, the 2.7-mile hike to Ouzel Falls winds through lodgepole pine forests and past multiple smaller cascades before delivering you to a thunderous 40-foot drop into a rocky gorge.

Along the way, you’ll pass Copeland Falls and Calypso Cascades—so it’s really a three-for-one deal. Wildflowers bloom in June and July, and moose sightings aren’t uncommon. The name

“Ouzel” refers to a small bird that swims underwater, so keep your eyes peeled.

Pro tip: Start early and pack a lunch. This trail is a classic for a reason, and it’s even better with a sandwich and a view.

FISH CREEK FALLS, STEAMBOAT SPRINGS

One of the state’s most accessible showstoppers, Fish Creek Falls roars 280 feet down a granite wall just outside Steamboat Springs. A paved trail takes you to a lower overlook in just a quarter-mile, while a more challenging route brings you to the base or even the upper falls for those seeking a solid half-day hike.

In winter, the falls freeze into massive columns of ice, drawing intrepid climbers with ice axes and nerves of steel. In summer, the rush of snowmelt is like nature’s own drum solo.

Pro tip: Combine this stop with a soak in Strawberry Park Hot Springs for a perfect Steamboat day.

BOX CANYON & LOWER CASCADE FALLS, OURAY

Known as the “Switzerland of America,” Ouray is already a stunner. But the Box Canyon Falls, located right on the edge of town, offer a vertical punch to the senses. The 285-foot falls thunder into a narrow slot canyon, and a system of walkways and bridges lets you experience the spectacle from below, above, and even from inside the rock itself. The waterfall is so powerful that it’s hard to hear yourself think—but maybe that’s the point.

Pro tip: Afterward, take the Perimeter Trail around Ouray for sweeping views of the surrounding peaks. While Box Canyon gets all the

WATERFALL HIKING TIPS

Time it right: Late spring through early summer is peak waterfall season in Colorado, thanks to snowmelt. That’s when the falls are full throttle. But in autumn, you can catch waterfalls alongside the striking colors of the Aspen turning.

Check permits: Places like Hanging Lake require reservations.

Wear good shoes: Trails can be muddy, rocky or wet—sometimes all three.

Stay safe: Don’t climb on wet rocks or get too close to edges. It’s not worth the selfie.

Leave no trace: Keep these places magical. Pack out what you pack in.

hype, around the loop, you’ll find Lower Cascade Falls, where you can (with a sketchy scramble) get behind the falls. Use caution, as it’s not safe for all visitors, of course.

HELEN HUNT FALLS, COLORADO SPRINGS

Named for the 19th-century poet and advocate Helen Hunt Jackson, this picturesque 35-foot cascade is nestled in North Cheyenne Cañon Park. It’s a favorite among locals and visitors alike for its accessibility and charm.

You can reach the base right from the parking lot or take the short but steep Columbine Trail to reach the top for a different perspective. It’s an ideal side trip if you’re visiting the Garden of the Gods or the Broadmoor.

Pro tip: Visit in autumn when the surrounding aspens blaze gold—it’s a scene straight out of a painting.

THE ART OF THE CHASE

Of course, part of the beauty of waterfall-hopping in Colorado isn’t just the waterfalls themselves— it’s the roads, trails and moments in between. It’s stopping for a scone in a mountain town, or sharing trail mix with a new friend at the overlook. It’s that moment when you round a bend and the sound of water grows louder, and you just know you’re close.

In a state that brims with wild beauty, waterfalls remind us that power and grace often go hand in hand. They’re ephemeral, seasonal and always moving—just like the best kind of adventure.

So grab your boots, load up your pack and hit the trail. The water’s falling.
