Shared spaces on the top and bottommost floors frame the residential levels, with the ground and second floors acting as the most public, connecting neighboring streets of Niigata to the seniors within through creative spaces and a flexible multipurpose hall. As one travels ver tically up the building, spaces become more private, culminating in the roof top garden and s a n c t u a r y, m a k i n g t h e t o p f l o o r f e e l l i k e a d e s t i n a t i o n f o r r e f l e c t i o n a n d s e r e n i t y. residential unit floor plan and sections
residential cooridoors and units use lighting, materials changes and sof t accents to guide residents throughout gathering house. units themselves only contain the neccessities, a multi-purpose tatami room for eating and sleeping, storage, and a restroom. this strategy encourages residents to complete ever yday tasks surrounded by their communit y in shared spaces, while being able to conduct private matters in their personal quar ters.

P r e l i m i n a r y research and intent was found through constucting a conjoined artifact, then digitally rendering and suspending the piece from the walls and ceiling of the space. The use of form and light shape the space and enhance the atmosphere of the grid cof fee shop.
