Introduction Hi! My name is Avery King and I am a fourth-year interior design student at Virginia Tech. As a little girl I enjoyed everything design. I constantly wanted to change the decor in my room, loved walking through new home builds with my mom, or going to new restaurants and hotels to see the different elements inside of them. Since studying design, I am most passionate about sustainability and how it pushes me towards more creative concepts of design.

To connect the space and support seamless communication and workflows with integrated smart technology. Creating a journey flowing from collaboration and work zones through the office space with opportunities to dive off into quieter or more personal spaces.

From this perspective, cove lighting above us, paired with a curved ceiling panel, gently guides us through the space. The flooring change directs us to the reception desk and waiting area on the right, or invites us to explore the more open area ahead.

Workstations and Design Library
In this perspective, there are high ceilings with acoustic lighting to illuminate the workstations, while a clear change in flooring marks separate zones. On the right, a two-level structure ascends to a mezzanine, surrounded by curtain walls that divide smaller, private spaces.

Design Concept Statement Design a luxury sky box offering a glimpse into how design and traditional jazz intertwine, sparking curiosity about the space’s musical roots. Drawing from the nature of jazz improvisation, spaces are orchestrated to have parallels with linear interactions, allowing users to engage with their adjacent spaces creating a connection between the space and the inhabitants much like performers would do with their instruments.

Design Intent Statement Vantage is maintaining a position with a good view of something. In this case, the view is the central event or multi-use space. This space is designed with a track system to allow for movement and can be seen from every open view within the interiors.
Design Concept Statement To re-imagine and re-claim libraries by the placement of a central axis for exploration. The use of key spaces, materiality, and form create a trans-formative experience within the interiors. Controlling the flow and creating a shift toward new innovation through consideration and path finding.
The parti shows the central point with other essential areas surrounding it.

In this perspective we see the central multi-use space. This can be used for events, presentations, and class meetings. The space can be easily maneuvered to fit different settings because of the track systems and sliding panels, as well as the easily movable seating within. Central Point

Lounge and Book Stacks
In this perspective and axon we have the book stacks and a quiet reading space. This shows a transitional space with sliding doors on a track system for differing levels of privacy.
The cafe to the right highlights a breakaway point from the central multi-use space and serves as exploration to different parts of the library. Below, the mezzanine perspective shows another place of the trans-formative space. It consists of the sliding panels which allow for a more intimate setting to do work or read. To the left of it is booth seating which is placed more publicly for individual or small group work.

Design Concept Statement Encapsulate can be defined as closing something within. The interior of this coworking space was inspired by the Newlab Robotics Company in Brooklyn, New York. The design of this involves a large warehouse that is by dividing it into zones and smaller rooms through different forms of partitions.

This perspective shows how the capsules interact within the space as well as the difference in materiality between them. The hot desks are made of corrugated metal, the phone booths of fluted glass and steel framing, the dining area is a plywood structure, and the conference rooms, which are not shown, are of plastic acrylic sheets.
Reception Area
Part of the inspiration for the coworking space came from the startup tech company currently located within the space. Headspace is a mindfulness and meditation app whose mission is to improve the health and happiness of the world. Throughout the design, I want to improve the health and happiness of the users inside the space through the idea of encapsulating the workplace, so I created innovative ways of doing so throughout the buildings interior.
On the first floor of the building is the tech company, Headspace. There is also a reception desk and lobby, an administration office, one bathroom, four offices suitable for two people each, and one large conference room. On the second floor there are two bathrooms, entrepreneur private offices, two large and two small conference rooms, twenty hot desks, four phone booths, a kitchen, and community space for eating and lounging.
