DECEMBER Made for Heaven

A Guided Lent Journal for Prayer and Meditation FR. AGUSTINO TORRES, CFR Illustrated by Valerie Delgado

Join Fr. Agustino Torres, CFR—founder of Corazón Puro—on a multimedia Lenten journey inspired by St. Francis. Begin the season with a vow of poverty and end at Easter with a heart free from the desert of sin and open to love, serve, and care for others. Made for Heaven features stunning original art by Valerie Delgado of Pax.Valerie, along with daily meditations on a passage from scripture, reflection questions, prayer, and space for journaling and notetaking.

“Lent is a season of purification and preparation. It is a time of year when the Church invites us to examine the areas of our lives where we need to create room for Jesus to be the center. It is also a time when we are invited to allow God to prepare our hearts for Heaven. You are made for heaven, and this book by Fr. Agustino Torres will be the perfect tool that allows the Lord to purify and prepare you for heaven.” —Fr. Mike Schmitz

Host of the Bible in a Year podcast

A life of simplicity and poverty orients you toward God’s love and reminds you that you are made for heaven. Torres says the best way to prepare yourself for that final destination is to live as true pilgrims who need to “travel lightly” and detach from earthly pleasures. In six transformative weeks, you will learn how to allow the Holy Spirit to move in your heart through a new theme each week: • WEEK ONE: commit yourself to a Lenten vow of poverty and reflect on the story of Jesus being cast into the desert as you learn to make your life entirely about Christ; • WEEK TWO: be a witness to the Transfiguration and allow yourself to become transformed, letting your spiritual gifts shine forth; • WEEK THREE: accept the call to conversion and say yes to a life of simplicity and poverty as St. Joseph did; • WEEK FOUR: let the healing power of God challenge you to become a vessel of mercy and a source of loving compassion to others;

JULY Turn to the Cross

Daily Prayers for Lent and Holy Week 2024 Lent isn’t about training ourselves with prayer, fasting, and almsgiving so we are “good enough” to be worthy of God’s mercy. Instead, we practice these disciplines to more closely pattern our lives after the example Jesus set through his Cross and Resurrection. In Turn to the Cross, each day from Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday begins with a passage from the Liturgy of the Hours or the Bible—a psalm, prayer, antiphon or response—followed by a short spiritual reflection, morning and evening prayers, and a question to ponder throughout the day. About five minutes a day is all we need as we turn to the Cross for healing, hope, and renewal. Each week includes a new Lenten theme: • God is faithful; • the call to conversion; • loving others by giving alms; • self-denial through fasting; • union with God in prayer; and • following Christ through the Cross. 978-1-64680-263-0 ∙ 64 pages ∙ $2.75 On-Sale Date: Available Now Foreign Rights: World ∙ 5" x 7" ∙ Paperback Category: Prayer / Lent Imprint: Ave Maria Press

FEBRUARY Jesus, Make Me Fully Alive 30 Holy Hour Reflections

FR. TIM ANASTOS Foreword by The Most Rev. Andrew H. Cozzens No matter what stage of the game you’re in, today’s schedules are b-u-s-y. Classes or work, coffee meetups, pickup pickleball games, time with family—you name it. The calendar tends to keep the social commitments and professional pressures high. In somewhat quieter moments of adulting, you may be combing apps for common ground, seeking community, and somehow still feeling as though you’re just going through the motions. Associate chaplain of the St. John Paul II Newman Center at the University of Illinois–Chicago, Fr. Tim Anastos says that when we take our prayer life seriously, approaching God with confidence and making a regular Holy Hour, Jesus begins to replace anxiety, insecurity, and doubt with love, freedom, and eternity.

“Each day, Jesus calls out to our hearts to sit with him, and this book is the perfect companion for those intimate moments . . . our Holy Hours.” —Maclaine Noah

Creator of A Catholic Convo

“Fr. Tim’s book is an excellent resource for college students and other young adults to begin to encounter the Lord in daily prayer. It would be a meaningful gift for high school or college graduates, to help them stay grounded in their faith.” —Most Reverend Robert Barron Bishop of Winona-Rochester

“Living in this world can easily drain us of life and joy, making us half alive, like zombies,” Anastos writes. “Jesus, Make Me Fully Alive can help recharge our relationship with Christ. Holy Hours are not just meant for the pope or the saints or ‘holy people.’ They are meant for you.” Beginning where you are (a few minutes for intentional prayer or an entire hour spent in Adoration), Anastos’s thirty Holy Hour exercises will help you easily engage with Jesus in prayer, building your personal relationship with God. You’ll also encounter • personal examples of how Adoration made a difference in Fr. Anastos’s own prayer life,

MAY Behold, Believe, Become

Meeting the Hidden Christ in the Things We See, Say, and Do at Mass An Unconventional Look at Eucharistic Worship TIMOTHY P. O’MALLEY McGrath Institute for Church Life

Embark on a transformative journey in the heart of Eucharistic worship with Behold, Believe, Become—where the ordinary becomes extraordinary and the Mass becomes a gateway to a profound encounter with Christ. In Behold, Believe, Become, Timothy P. O’Malley, a distinguished leader in the Eucharistic Revival movement and bestselling author of Becoming Eucharistic People and Real Presence, shows you how to see differently, through newly formed habits of contemplation, fifteen ordinary, physical things that the Church uses at Mass to point us toward Christ. You will explore layers of meaning to be found in noble doors and stained-glass windows; sunlight and water; oil and fire, altars and church pews, bread and wine become Body and Blood. O’Malley helps you see how each element tells us something about who Christ is and who we are to become as Christian people. Inspired by the towering genius of the twentieth-century liturgical movement, Fr. Romano Guardini (1865–1968), O’Malley offers an unconventional walk through the Mass, highlighting that “matter matters.” This book doesn’t delve into the intricate history of Eucharistic Prayers or what the texts say about God. Instead, it provides a unique exploration of the stuff of Eucharistic worship from the time that we enter the church until the time that we depart at the end. Whether you’re seeking personal growth or exploring this journey with a group, Behold, Believe, Become is the perfect companion, providing thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter that bridge the Mass to your everyday life. And for those craving a communal experience, a small-group leader’s guide and companion videos featuring Rachel and Jason Bulman of “Meet the Bulmans” make this an invaluable resource for parishes and small groups. Are you ready to witness the Mass in a new light? Behold, Believe, Become is your key to unlocking a richer, more meaningful Eucharistic experience. FEATURES AND BENEFITS • Timothy O’Malley’s bestselling books on the Eucharistic, Real Presence and Becoming Eucharistic People have sold more than 30,000 and 60,000 copies respectively in multiple editions. • This exploration of the presence of Christ at Mass, takes the unconventional approach of exploring the material things Catholics encounter during Mass that can draw them to Christ. • Parishes, dioceses, and other Catholic pastoral settings continue to seek resources to support their efforts at renewal centered on the Eucharist. • This book is supported by a parish kit that guides leaders through various tools for adaptation of the book into parish life.

“Behold, Believe, Become is a summons into experiencing the Eucharist as a mystical moment where the divine meets the human in the fullness of our embodied existence. As the pages turn, the senses are extraordinarily drawn into seeing, tasting, smelling, hearing, and touching all matters related to the Eucharistic miracle.” —Hosffman Ospino Professor of Theology and Religious Education Boston College, School of Theology and Ministry

“In Behold, Believe, Become, O’Malley is courting the modern Catholic heart to contemplation within the Holy Mass. It is a wooing of the human heart, wounded by our own inventions, to sit at the feet of Jesus and ponder his magnanimous love in the Eucharist. It is a persistent pursuit of the vagabond within us and invites us to become mystics.” —Fr. Agustino Torres, CFR Founder of Corazón Puro

FEBRUARY Redeeming Power

Exercising the Gift as God Intended 12 Lessons for Catholics Who Lead ANN M. GARRIDO

Catholic theologian Ann M. Garrido—author of the bestselling and award-winning book Redeeming Administration—continues her work on Christian leadership by examining power not as a manipulative force in short supply but as Jesus understood it: an abundant good meant to be shared and put to use for the sake of harmony and holiness. In Redeeming Power, Garrido helps you develop a spirituality of power by considering the skills and personal qualities that will enable a healthy and holy use of power in your role as one who leads. Garrido explores key passages from the creation stories of Genesis where we find the roots of how Jesus understood power. She shows how God shares divine power with all humans and calls leaders to specific ways of exercising power that will benefit the people and institutions they serve. Joining these biblical lessons to her personal experience, and with help from nearly forty interviews of leaders in nonprofit organizations, business, and the Church, Garrido offers insight and guidance into many of the challenges contemporary leaders face, including how to • set—and adapt as needed—healthy boundaries for yourself and within the institution or community you serve, • honor confidentiality while seeking to be transparent, • share power with others, 978-1-64680-272-2 ∙ 256 pages ∙ $17.95 On-Sale Date: February 16, 2024 Foreign Rights: World ∙ 5" x 7" ∙ Paperback Category: Pastoral Ministry / Personal Growth Imprint: Ave Maria Press ANN M. APRIL Courage to Create

Unleashing Your Artistic Gifts for Truth, Beauty, and Goodness CLARE MCCALLAN Foreword by Valerie Delgado

You know God is urging you to use your creative gifts for his kingdom. But in a world that quantifies “success” by the fame and fortune that few artists achieve, how do you own your identity as an artist for Christ? In Courage to Create, host of Catholic TV’s “The Renaissance Room” Clare McCallan and her artist friends share their wisdom for overcoming common obstacles in the creative life to help you fulfill your artistic calling and truly serve the Lord. Poet and performing artist Clare McCallan arrived in New York City determined to be one of the artists who “makes it.” She soon discovered, however, that there were hundreds of others just like her: eager, gifted, and broke. As she continued to ask God to help her become the writer she knew she could be, she noticed that her prayers were answered by other artists who started showing up in her life. Together, they created a supportive community for each other’s artistic vocations by transforming a dilapidated convent into the St. Joseph Home for Artisans. Through this experience, McCallan realized that what the world calls an artist and what God calls an artist are two different things. Each chapter introduces you to a member of her creative community with diverse artistic talents and backgrounds. Their stories serve as a source of hard-earned wisdom from people who have been where you are now, including • Connecticut House Representative and actress Treneé McGee, who discusses bringing the gift of truth to build bridges within your community • Oil painter and muralist Adam Moniz, who highlights the empowering effect of physical space in an artist’s life • Writer, abuse survivor, and Spirit Fire advocate Teresa Pitt Green, who explores the connection between art and restorative justice • Designer and songwriter Molly Broekman, who shares the benefits of collaboration and mentorship Throughout these chapters, you’ll also find “Artist Moments,” which offer space for personal reflection on your own creative journey. By connecting your story with those who have walked before you, Courage to Create helps you to take courage and find solidarity in the growing movement of young people betting it all on their faith, gifts, and vocation. FEATURES AND BENEFITS • Written in a peer-to-peer voice for Gen Z and Millennial creatives. • Journaling and drawing space provided throughout for readers to add their own artistic expression as they read.

APRIL Welcoming the Holy Spirit with Padre Pio SUSAN DE BARTOLI When asked about his spiritual gifts of healing, bilocation, prophecy, and stigmata, Padre Pio replied, “You know, they are a mystery to me, too.” While you might think he is just being modest, he is actually getting at the heart of how the Holy Spirit works in every Christian’s life. We can’t fully understand why God gives us certain gifts, but as we walk with Christ, we can engage with this mystery and journey toward holiness. Following the success of her Advent devotional, Welcoming the Christ Child with Padre Pio, Susan De Bartoli invites you to explore Padre Pio’s relationship with the third member of the Blessed Trinity, the Holy Spirit, who is the source of all spiritual gifts. Through the stories of this simple Capuchin priest, you’ll discover what is possible for those who surrender themselves to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. At Baptism, we all receive the fruits of the Spirit—gifts like wisdom, fortitude, and piety—that empower us to “dive deep” into the well of faith. The Holy Spirit also graces some of us with special charisms—supernatural gifts such as healing, teaching, or intercessory abilities—intended to serve the Church. In this book, you’ll learn how to nurture these gifts, just as Padre Pio did, so that even your “ordinary“ spiritual gifts and charisms can bless others and deepen your own faith.

“This book helps us to unveil the mystery of Padre Pio’s spiritual gifts and struggles while enkindling in us personal conversion. It offers deeper insights into the life of this beloved twentyfirst century saint while encountering a new invitation to holiness. A pilgrimage in writing.” —Jana Zuniga

Owner, January Jane Shop

“Welcoming the Holy Spirit with Padre Pio is an engrossing meditation on the life of Padre Pio. This book is perfect for those unacquainted with this modern mystic, for those who are looking to grow deeper in their devotion to him, and for families who are looking for a spiritual resource that will engage all ages in fruitful conversation.” —Alex Dee

Cofounder and director Saints Alive Podcast

Each chapter offers quotations from Padre Pio, a short story about the saint, prayer, and reflection questions that you can apply to your own life, such as: • What are my spiritual gifts and how have I seen them play out in my life already? • Am I consistently drinking from the well of faith? • What does the Lord want me to do with my life, and how can I use my spiritual gifts to serve the Church? • Am I willing to surrender even the good things in my life to glorify the Lord? Welcoming the Holy Spirit with Padre Pio is the perfect companion for those who are already drawn to Padre Pio’s spirituality or anyone yearning to strengthen their relationship with the Holy Spirit. Through the example of this extraordinary saint, you will discover how continually drawing from the well of Living Water can drastically change your everyday walk with Christ. Are you looking for the right words—and a boost of confidence—to build trust, reduce shame, and have an ongoing and compassionate conversation with your teen about sex, one that also reinforces Catholic values? In Talking with Your Teen About Sex, clinical psychologist Julia Sadusky answers most commonly asked questions and offers practical advice on addressing puberty, dating, intimacy, technology, pornography, and other experiences your child may navigate in their teen years and beyond. Intentionally setting aside time and focus to discuss these critical facets of human sexuality will become some of the most important minutes of your life as a parent. As you listen to what your teen knows and thinks about critical and hot-button topics and discover what you love most about their curiosities and individuality, you will both foster a deeper connection as you explore their belovedness as children of God. Informed by the latest clinical research and drawing on the same guiding principles as Sadusky’s first book, Start Talking to Your Kids about Sex—which focuses on elementary-age children—Talking with Your Teen about Sex helps equip parents to be primary educators as teens move through adolescence. Guided by Catholic teaching, this book, intended for ages ten and up, goes beyond the typical “sex talk.” It will equip you to confidently communicate with your child about topics such as bodily changes, physical boundaries, sexual ethics, and masturbation with greater comfort. You’ll find concrete advice and ready-to-go conversation starters for your biggest questions, including 978-1-64680-224-1 ∙ 256 pages ∙ $19.95 On-Sale Date: March 15, 2024 Foreign Rights: World ∙ 6" x 9" ∙ Paperback Category: Catholicism / Family & Parenting Imprint: Ave Maria Press

APRIL Befriending Your Inner Child

A Catholic Approach to Healing and Wholeness BRYA HANAN

Hurts experienced in our youth, be they traumas or trials, might get stowed away, yet our inner child remembers. It doesn’t matter how much time passes or how mature we become; such hurts can eventually cause friction in our daily lives, casting a long shadow over our relationships with ourselves, our loves ones, and our God. Written in a compassionate and pastoral tone by licensed marriage and family therapist Brya Hanan, Befriending Your Inner Child: A Catholic Approach to Healing and Wholeness invites you to venture deep into your heart and befriend your hurts, emotional wounds, and childish behavior—or in the world of psychotherapy, your “inner child”—to reclaim your truest self, experience inner wholeness and healing, and strengthen your relationship with God and others. Part one of the book explains why it is essential to befriend your inner child as well as the wounds and self-protections that this “child within” holds. Through this discovery, you will learn how to transform your deepest hurts into opportunities for healing and integration. Part two of the book offers practical tools to tend to your inner child compassionately. Through Hanan’s practical “5 A’s,” you will learn how to 1. anchor yourself in God and in your God-given body; 2. acknowledge your feelings and where you notice them showing up in your body; 3. attune to your deepest wounds, core beliefs, and distressing feelings; 4. ask God to show you what you need and to how to participate in in his healing work; and 5. act consistently with loving compassion toward yourself. Hanan vulnerably shares her own journey of “reparenting” her inner child and offers additional case studies from her clinical practice that highlight how different personalities and life stages can respond to befriending their inner child. Each chapter includes charts, lists, and “Befriend Work” exercises that challenge readers to reflect further on the content.

He builds on his own spiritually rich memories—including his view from the fifty-yard line at Notre Dame Stadium—to show how you can invent your own life plan by selecting from spiritual habits and practices that have formed and strengthened Catholics for centuries. Sé transformado

(Spanish Edition of Be Transformed) El poder sanador de los sacramentos BOB SCHUCHTS

How can Christians grow spiritually in the midst of our sinfulness? How can we transform our lives in a way that allows us to share in the resurrection of Jesus? God has already given us the perfect solution—the sacraments. Whether it is the wound of past hurts, the strain in our relationships, or the stress of daily life, we all need to be comforted and made whole by Christ. Based on more than thirty-five years of experience as a therapist and decades spent in parish ministry, Bob Schuchts demonstrates how each of the seven sacraments can be a life-changing encounter with Christ, communicated through the power of the Holy Spirit. He pairs each healing sacrament with one of the seven deadly wounds that emanated from original sin in the Garden of Eden. We perpetuate and deepen those wounds each time we sin, but the sacraments are God’s remedy for sin. They give us a way to restore us to wholeness in Christ.
