What Will Your Legacy Be?
from Advocate: Fall 2020
Over the past two decades, Ave Maria School of Law has been educating future lawyers with impeccable technical skills and a steady commitment to the moral and ethical values that have made this country great. Never in those past twenty years has that duty been more important or more relevant than now. Amidst a landscape of the Covid pandemic, divisive and liberal leaning politics and volatile civil unrest, it is more important than ever to invest in future lawyers, lawmakers and judges with conservative values and beliefs. The survival of capitalism and our constitutional freedoms are at risk. One important way that you can make an impact on the future of our great country is by investing in our scholarship program to educate tomorrows leaders. Leaders that possess a strong moral compass and a commitment to conservatism and our Constitution. Our students are educated in faith and reason, and graduate with a foundation of ethical leadership and Catholic values. Attending one of our virtual events would be a wonderful way to support Ave Maria Law. Our annual Veterans Memorial Celebration will be a nationwide virtual event this year that will include a live auction to benefit scholarships. Information on the November 11 event is included in this issue of the Advocate. Mitzi Magin, one of our treasured benefactors who recently passed noted, “It is vitally important for our future lawyers to be advocates of the law and to uphold it. We are facing tremendous challenges in our country. The need for moral lawyers who will advocate for traditional values, rather than obstructionists who seek to undermine our government is essential.” Never has it been more important to invest in the future of Ave Maria Law than now! I cannot thank you enough for your past support and for your prayerful consideration to continue to help us to educate tomorrow’s conservative leaders. With gratitude, Donna C. Heiser, APR, CFRE Chief Advancement and External Affairs Officer “It was truly our honor to welcome United States Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch as the tenth speaker of our Ave Maria Law Lecture Series. The Ave Law Advancement and External Affairs team were privileged to work with Karen and John Ferguson, and Justice Gorsuch’s staff to produce both the campus and evening events. Together we hosted over 800 people and enjoyed a memorable visit by a Justice who will profoundly influence the future of American jurisprudence,” noted Donna Heiser, Chief Advancement and External Affairs Officer.

Catherine Bequette, our former Events Specialist, was such an important part of our school community. Though Catherine has left us to be with family in Texas, she will always remain a part of the Ave Maria Law family. Catherine is a proud and loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. Thank you, Catherine, for your important contributions to Ave Maria Law. On her first day at Ave Law, Catherine noted that she “started with not knowing how to enter the Administration building! I came across staff member, Cindy Mariconda. She cheerfully escorted me to the back entrance. After settling in, Rhonda Skeete, another colleague, took me throughout the campus and introduced me to every single person. I had never felt so welcomed and connected.” “An important piece of advice I follow is to be polite, do what’s right, never give up, and always give 110% in everything you do.”
