For the third time, Ave Maria School of Law was named the best Catholic Law School in the United States for the devout by The National Jurist’s preLaw Magazine. The spring 2017 issue of the magazine ranked Ave Maria School of Law the most devout among 28 Catholic law schools nationwide.

AVE MARIA SCHOOL OF LAW NAMED

BEST CATHOLIC LAW SCHOOL FOR THE DEVOUT. Ave Maria School of Law, a devout Catholic law school, gives students the opportunity to express their faith not just at Mass but throughout their education.

“There is no law school in the country that has a closer fidelity to the Catholic Church and its teachings,” said Kevin Cieply, dean at the Naples, Fla., school. “Students can come here and get much stronger in their faith and learn to bring their faith to the practice of law.”

As an example, Ave Maria School of Law offers an externship and a fellowship with Archbishop Bernardito Auza, the diplomatic representative for the Vatican to the United Nations. The school also takes students on a field trip every year to tour the UN and study international law.

Ave Law has an active Catholic student organization, the Lex Vitae Society, which participates in a legal summit on the right to life and the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Ave Law students work with victims, many of whom are from Mexico, Honduras and other countries with large Catholic populations. The school’s students performed 500 hours of pro bono work at faithbased organizations, including Catholic Charities.

“We create a safe harbor where students can study law and be very comfortable in practicing their faith, whatever that may be,” Cieply said.
