Technology
The year 2000 has been a very busy year for all staff and students within the Technolog}7 Department. Earlier this year staffworked on Curriculum for 2001 and beyond. This brings our current curriculum into line with the new CSF 2 document.
I have been lucky to work with such a motivated staff. Technology is unlike any other faculty in the school, in that the subjects are so varied and the staff work very independently. This means that teachers ofFood, Textiles and Information Technology all have to communicate effectively, but also be strong enough to work by themselves. My staff has all worked ven’ hard and I am sure that all technology students have benefited from their talents.

This year we were pleased to implement the Australian IT competition at Year 9. This was a great opportunity for our school to compete against other Australian schools.
Two motivated Year 12 Textiles students,
Kate McGinty and Erin Kilty participated
in the annual Gown ofthe Year competition, in the Racewear and the Cockrail sections respectively. Both students were up against senior designers and we congratulate both, as they were finalists in their chosen categories.
This meant that their garments toured Australia with Gown of the Year. All senior students attended a luncheon in August, where we got to see the garments on the catwalk. It was a great opportunity for senior Textiles students to see what designers are doing within the industry. I
know students and teachers came away equally inspired to sew! Earlier this year Mrs Omand attended a
conference on the implementation of Technology7 in the classroom. Inspired by this, she got her year 8 Food Technology students to email a recipe website; she also digitally photographed meals at school and has maintained contact with her classes via her email network. She has truly brought the technology7 railroad into her classes and has inspired her students to keep up with certain websites and links from home. In the Food Technology area,
the students of Year 1 1 Materials and Technology Food have had their culinary skills exhibited twice this year when they were requested to provide Finger Food for two College functions. Official guests were invited to the Annie’ production prior to the performance and were fed a tasty array ofsavouries, as were the parents who attended the Healthy Living Forum. We look to the future, with promises ofa new layout and refurbishment of the Technology wing. This will happen in conjunction to a new offering under the Technology umbrella ofjewellery making and metals. As computers take on a new role within each subject, IT will also be a part ofeach and every class here at Ave Maria College. I look forward to the future and what it will bring and I thank all of my Technology staff for their love and support over the past two years. Ms Amanda Nunn
