Music vs Books

Elena Kritzinger

Is music more important?

Music is essentially the art or science of composing or performing music Vocal and instrumental sounds are combined to create beauty of form to express emotion that cannot be put in words. Where music fails to move the soul and mind, literature takes the lead. This poses the question: which one is more important?

To answer this, one has to understand the history of music and literature Centuries ago, humans used noise with the sounds of nature to convey emotions, which led to the creation of music The invention of instruments gave way to rhythm and patterns. Many musical eras later, we have what is known as modern music. As for books, their origin can be traced back to ancient Rome and were created to archive history and tell stories.

One could argue that without the invention of books and writing, written music would not exist. However, the art of music is not dependent on a pen and the ability to write Is music not the language of the illiterate, as it was when many people could not afford an education? To further set music apart from literature, one must compare their respective influence on human development.

Literary fiction is said – by studies such as one directed by English Professor Pragya Shukla – to “induce sympathies and enlarge the mind.” It has also been proven by science that music improves cognitive skills and expression of emotion Books and music differ in the way they promote learning Readers tend to develop knowledge, improved language skills and memory, whereas musicians tend to develop refined concentration and emotional maturity. That being said, one can conclude that in order to decide for yourself whether books or music holds greater value, one should ask the following question: Is increasing the ability to learn through music, more important than reading a book in the hope of learning? The author’s opinion: yes
