Parkview dementia care home is proud to show off its new refurbished home and gardens.

Avante Care & Support’s dementia care home, Parkview in Bexleyheath, has recently completed its refurbishment programme which has improved areas of the 69 bedded home to be of the same high standard as the rest of the home.

The programme started back in October 2015 and has included improving the entrance and reception area, corridors and the day care centre.

The revamped reception area is a welcome addition to the home and also a pleasant quiet area for families and residents to enjoy.

The area is full of light and bright colours and boasts a welcoming feel as soon as one walks through the homes doors. There is also a new entry phone coded system at the home, allowing families better entry access into the home.

Parkview is a well-established dementia care home in the area and greatly supported by the local

Bexley community. The care home offers a variety of lounges and dining areas over two floors with tastefully decorated rooms and bright and cheerful furnishings.

Many of the single rooms at Parkview benefit from en-suite facilities, all have been individually decorated to provide comfort and relaxation.

The refurbishment programme included freshening up the corridors and bedroom doors with bright colours bringing all areas of the home in line to give a fresh and bright environment for residents to live. A request from the residents and staff at the home were to include renovating the gardens to encourage more activity and interaction with some of the green fingered residents at the home.

Twiddle Quilts Canterbury Quilters very kindly made twiddle quilts for residents at Parkview to use and enjoy.

Twiddle quilts have been recognised as good distractions for people living with dementia who have active hands. The quilts come in all shapes and sizes with various zips, buttons, bells sewn into them to be twiddled with. Pat Collis Home Manager said,

Parkview residents attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace On Thursday 26th May a few residents from Avante Care & Supports care homes were thrilled to be invited and attend the Annual Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The event was held by “The Not Forgotten Association�

(NFA) for ex-servicemen and women and was attended by HRH The Duke of York and his daughters, Princess Beatrice of York and Princess Eugenie of York, who chatted to so many guests, delighting them with their keen interest.

It was a great honour for me to be parking outside Buckingha m Palace with our residents and walking through to the Palace gardens, you could see the excitement in all of our faces and it stayed that way throughout the day. We met many celebrities and had a long chat with the Chelsea Pensioners who ca me over to meet us all. There was a group of them and they spent ages with our residents. One member asked Barbara to marry him she said yes at first but shared with him she had been married 3 times before so he quickly changed his mind, Barbara found it very funny!

We are so grateful to the Canterbury Quilters for making the residents some twiddle quilts, one of our residents was so pleased with hers she cried with happiness, they are beautifully made and very much appreciated by us all

A days gardening at Parkview On Wednesday the 4th May landscaping company Burley’s arrived with a truck full of plants at Parkview care home to be planted in the new raised flower beds that have recently been installed.

The garden at Parkview has undertaken a mini makeover to make the area more appealing for residents to want to get involved with gardening and outdoor activities.

Works included updating the garden which DCB Kent have worked hard with achieving, now all that was left to do was add the finishing touches to the garden, plants!

With the help of Darren the Site Manager from DCB Kent, Mr Ranagiotis from Burley Landscapers and care staff from Parkview Care Home, residents spent the afternoon elbows deep in compost planting the new plants.

You can see from the photos it was very much all hands on deck on this glorious sunny day. The residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves which we all feel will help encourage others who are not so keen on gardening to want to take part in the garden in the future. I’d like to thank the contractors who helped with the gardening and made the day such a fun afternoon. A big thank you and well done also to our residents Rose, Joan, Pat, Jan, Dawn, Mary, Maureen, Thelma, Barbara and Eileen who didn’t stop all afternoon with planting!

Coffee Morning

Resident Joan bought strawberry plants with her son Stephen to plant in Parkview gardens, as you can see Joan is enjoying her first crop of strawberries, well done Joan!

On Thursday 16th June Parkview held a ‘Coffee Morning’ in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Staff and residents invited family and friends to join them for a coffee and a slice of cake or doughnut. A big thank you to the local Greggs bakery for donating 100 doughnuts for the event, they arrived fresh out of the oven and were gone in minutes!
