Endurance in Architecture Reviving the precinct of Mormugao, Goa
Sem X | Design Dissertation | 2024 Guide - Ar. Anmol Warang | anmol.w@lsrsa.edu.in
In the midst of today’s evolving landscapes, it becomes increasingly evident that change is inevitable. As we navigate this era marked by rapid urbanization, there’s a discernible disconnect emerging, both within ourselves and in our interactions with others. Architecture, when enduring, transcends the physicality of structures; its essence lies in how humans engage with it. How we feel in certain spaces, how we link ourselves in time through architecture and how we have spatial connections to a place, is all what keeps us and the architecture linked together.
All drawings for this project are made by Avani Mehta.
3
Mormugao Port and Fort Located in the Vasco da gama district, this region was a small part in the fortress of Mormugao, made to secure the habour by the Portuguese in 1624. Multiple structures, relics of the fort still remain in the context, even after 400 years of changes, like the broken down fort wall along the road, a jail cellar, the Viceregal palace. Rapid urbanisation has bled the heritage and culture of the area. This dissertation is looking at reactivation of these heritage points to knit the past back into the urban fabric.
4
Master Plan Despite the changes, this precinct has managed to endure yet everytime with newer unplanned developments, there are been a slight disconnect of the region from its people. With new infrastructure plans looming, it’s crucial to assess their impact on the existing built environment and community. The larger idea for the endurance of the place is through its functional revival which will in turn engage its community and all the other users that interact with the space.
5
Creating an Identity Creation of a space completely in sync with the local community around it, which can be accessed through their houses directly.
The space is created on the contour, connecting to the different levels of the existing houses of the locals. The concept was of a main space flowing through which connects on differnt contour levels. The structure is made using earth, sand and lime filling to make curved walls, an indicator of the susegad lifestyle of the goans 6 Section through the Community Center
Creating an Impact

Reactivating the area through addition of a marketplace with a platform for performance for the people of the area. This area was the first ever railway line in Goa, started during the British Raj, and now it lies abandoned with only its warehouse, in ruins. The idea was an introduction of a much needed cultural space for interaction between the poeple and the different kind of users who came here, however staying true to its identity and remembrance of the community of the fishermen who live here from generations

Creating Opportunities Creation of a boutique hotel in an area with good potential for growth not only helps in economy boost but also creates job oppurtunities for the locals. The existing building is an abandoned public building used by the MPT office in 2012. This being a central junction, a creation of a main attraction point with a facade representing the region makes it a identity point. Creation of this area makes sure, the functional durability of the region stays and continues to change as per requirements of the future. Existing Building View

Way Side Amenity Samruddhi Mahamarg Initiative Sem IX | Architectural Design | 2023 Team - Avani Mehta, Soham Pahade Guide - Ar. Arun Fizardo | arun.f@lsrsa.edu.in
The Way-Side Amenity project focused on designing a selfsustaining pause point along the Samruddhi Mahamarg. The aim was to understand how architecture can support highspeed mobility without losing its human scale. The planning worked as a layered system - where heavy services aligned with the highway edge, while public functions opened toward quieter internal courtyards. Material choices and massing were kept low, porous, and climate-responsive to maintain comfort, clear sightlines, and operational efficiency.

Master Plan Our design approach was built on integration: 1. Integrating the programme with the topography 2. Integrating circulation with vehicular 3. Pedestrian movement, and integrating the built form with climate, visibility, and orientation

Naroda Park, Ahmedabad M/s Prabhakar B. Bhagwat - Landscape India
Sem VIII | Internship Work | 2023 Guide - Ar.Aniket Bhagwat | pbb-ahm@landscapeindia.net
The area - Nava Naroda - located in the North-East part of Ahmedabad, has long endured the absence of public parks that further ideas of society and association. A few trees - such as the Holoptelea integrifolia, or the Indian Elm - were present at the entrance of the park. The renewed design celebrates these trees at the entrance; other trees present on the land have been subsumed into the primary walkways of the park. Having been refurbished, this public park now sees approximately 7000 - 8000 visitors every day, and is heavily used.

TITLE: NARODA PARK MASTER PLAN
PROJECT NO: FOR APPROVAL UP-NAR-MP-01 DATE: 08-02-2023
15
The overall structure and design of the park is a geometry of three circles, each circle being assigned a unique function.
All drawings for this project are done by Avani Mehta.
The first circle serves as the Children’s Play Area, while the circle towards the other end functions as an outdoor exercise space. The circle in the centre has been tasked as a space for congregation, and gathering. 16
These images are from Landscape India’s website. During my internship, worked on the GFC drawings only. I have not worked on execution for the same.

Urban Liveability Chembur Public Plaza
Sem VI | Architectural Design | 2022 Guide - Ar. Anuj Gudekar | anuj.g@lsrsa.edu.in
Our brief centred on Chembur, a neighbourhood defined by constant movement, mixed-use edges, and fragmented open spaces. The goal was to study how streets, plazas, edges, and programmatic anchors can enhance social interaction, comfort, accessibility, and environmental quality. The plaza’s irregular site geometry became the generator for a continuous pathway that threads through it, guiding movement and shaping spatial experience. As the route adapts to edges, openings, and contextual cues, it naturally expands and contracts to form a series of active pockets and moments of pause.
On site and Off site Accessibiltiy
Concept - Unifying through a single element This pathway is not just circulation; it acts as the plaza’s spine. As it moves, it shifts in width, texture, and direction in response to the surroundings, creating pockets of activity, pause points, shaded courts, and interactive edges.

The public plaza integrates a multi-use community building that supports everyday urban life. It anchors this public realm with functions that respond to daily needs: flexible workshop zones for skill-building, a swimming pool as a recreational and healthoriented facility, and halls that accommodate local meetings, and cultural activities.
