BEAT These days I hear from many people that we are living in the most difficult times ever. Both in the news and in conversations I am having from around the globe the COVID-19 Pandemic, social unrest and political divide are hot topics. When you are going through tough times such as these, it seems like it is the most challenging situation you have ever been through and wonder if you will make it through. Then once the challenge subsides and you have survived the crisis at hand, you can think, “We did it, we made it through.” Personally, I think all of us born in the last 60 years in the USA or Western Europe, have had the best time ever in history. Compared to somebody born around 1880 in Germany, the last 60 years were awesome. If you were born in 1880 in Germany, during your life you had to go through 2 World Wars, and likely lost many of your family members and friends in those wars. Even if you were working hard, saving money, hyperinflation twice wiped out all your savings. Yes, this was the time where a loaf of bread would first cost 1 Reichsmark and during hyperinflation 1 Billion Reichsmark. Retirees who worked hard all their lives could buy nothing with their monthly pension if they were fortunate to have one. In contrast, today all of us have little to fear that our life needs cannot be satisfied tomorrow. And truly like former US President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "Only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

GROWING THROUGH DIFFICULT TIMES

We recently went through an innovation awards program in our community in Orlando. There were 153 entrepreneurs who submitted a business plan for the Avalon Park Innovation Award and I feel that these entrepreneurs GOT IT. Despite the COVID-19, lockdown, and many businesses reporting losses and layoffs, they saw the time to start a business is NOW. Over the last few weeks, an international jury spent countless hours on video conferences and face to face meetings with dozens of entrepreneurs, where more than 20 of the finalists will receive an award to follow their dream.

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

The 2020 Primary and the Pandemic:

Voters Have Options The unprecedented time of conducting elections during a pandemic has presented challenges to ensure the safety of my team, poll workers and the voters of Pasco County, however, there will still be three options for casting a ballot in the upcoming August 18, 2020 Primary Election. While we strongly encourage voters to consider voting by mail, in-person early voting and Election Day voting will still be available with a few added conveniences for voting by mail, and the utilization of CDC guidelines for in-person voting.

period, August 8 - 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily will be available. Voters may also drop off their ballots at one of our three offices countywide through 7:00 p.m. Election Day.

Voters who choose to vote in-person should expect longer wait times due to health and safety measures being implemented at Early Voting sites and Election Day polling places. Precautions such as limiting the number of people inside the polling room and continuous cleaning of equipment and surfaces will be the main reasons for longer in-person Vote-by-mail ballots may be re- voting experiences. Knowing this in quested at www.PascoVotes.gov, by advance, we are hoping voters will calling 1-800-851-8754, or in writ- be understanding and remain paing with your date of birth to PO tient while waiting in line. Box 300, Dade City FL 33526. For this election cycle, voters may return their vote-by-mail ballot postage paid but should allow adequate time for delivery by the USPS. Per Florida law, vote-by-mail ballots must physically be in the elections' office by 7:00 p.m. Election Day - not just postmarked. You can track your ballot via our website with the option to receive text/email notifications when delivered to the Elections' Office. For added convenience, curbside drop-off for vote-by-mail ballots at all 11 Early Voting sites during the early voting

Additional planned health and safety measures include:

While we are anticipating some of our customary Election Day Polling Places will be unavailable for voting, the majority should be open as usual. If a Polling Place becomes unavailable for Election Day, we will send voters in that precinct postcard notifications via USPS, time permitting, as well as posting the changes on www.PascoVotes.gov. Additionally, a notice will be placed at the former polling location and voters will receive automated text alert messages through the Pasco County Emergency Management. Early voters have the option to vote at any of the 11 early voting sites, but on Election Day, voters are • Masks and/or face shields will be used by poll workers • Single-use styli will be available for voters to sign for their ballot • Re-usable ballot secrecy sleeves will not be required • Hands-free 2D barcode readers will be utilized for checking-in voters with Florida Driver License and Florida ID cards • Voters will be encouraged to use their own blue or black ballot marking pen

statutorily required to vote at their polling place. The message for voters during this unprecedented time is simple - let's "Make it Work". Plan, accordingly, and decide today which voting method you'll use to cast your ballot in the August Primary. If you haven't requested a Vote-by-Mail ballot, request one now. If you prefer to vote in person, plan to vote during the first four days of Early Voting. If you prefer to vote on Election Day, visit www.PascoVotes.gov before you leave home to verify your assigned Polling Place. • Masks will be available if needed, and the use of masks is strongly encouraged as there is a county directive requiring masks • Social distancing will be maintained while in line outside and inside the Polling Place • Touch points for voters and poll workers will be minimized through the implementation of cleaning surfaces, voting pens, voting machines, etc.

School Pinecrest Academy Wesley Chapel will open doors to students for the first day of school on Monday, August 24, 2020. Our students will have 3 options to choose from:

Option 1 will be coming back to August 12 school in a face-to-face format. We will follow CDC guidelines to protect our students, staff, and families.

Option 2

will be part-time at school and part-time at home using Remote Live Instruction (RLI). Remote Live Instruction can be defined as students logging in (via computer) to a secure dashboard to attend a class through a video conferencing platform from home. Students follow the same daily schedule, as if they were on campus. Students interact with teachers and classmates through the video conferencing platform. Students connect to the platform through a secure, single sign-on dashboard called Colegia.

I hope everyone had a safe Independence Day and month of July. I am appreciative of the opportunity to provide you updates on what is happening in Pasco County as we continue to respond to the effects of COVID-19 together. First, please continue to be safe and do everything you can to prevent the spread of the virus: wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering when you cannot distance from others, and limit gatherings with large groups. Information changes fast, please check out Pasco County’s website at MyPasco.net for all the latest. I am excited to let you know we held a virtual groundbreaking for the new recreation center at Wesley Chapel District Park on July 15th. I’ve spent a lot of time coaching at this park and there is a great need for this facility. The rec center will be almost 18,000 square feet and will open in the summer of 2021.

WINES TO ENJOY The Hot Florida Summer is here and we are all reaching for that cool Summer Wine to refresh and excite our palate! Time for Wine can help you choose the best for your palate! There’s nothing better than an old fashion Clambake with jewels of the sea like mussels, clams, lobster, shrimp and dash of wine and seasonings. Our first wine recommendation is a 2018 Digressions Rose from Provence, France packaged in a beautiful square shaped bottle with a Flamingo insignia. It’s delectable flavors of strawberry, peaches, apricot and floral notes will take your Clambake to the next level of fun and laughter! Our next wine is “Floriography” Blooming White blend from South Africa. Blooming white is an explosion of exotic fruit and flavors with over 5 grapes in the blend including Chenin Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Muscat, and Sav Blanc. The aromas of apricot, gooseberries, melon and floral notes pair nicely with a baked brie and fruit lounging around the pool or sailing on the Bay. Lastly for the Bar B Que fans and Red Wine Lovers, is Roller Coaster Red Blend, Sonoma, California! A thrilling red blend of over 7 exciting grapes from Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Barbera to Zin and Syrah, with aromas of dark cherry, raspberries, touch of oak and dark chocolate.
