The  2024  season  is  off  to  an  early  start  with  the  MRF  MMSC  fmsci  Indian  National  Car  Racing  Championship  being  the  2024  season  opener  with  back­to­back  rounds  in  February.  The  franchise­based  Indian  Racing  League  (IRL),  completed  its  second  season  on  a  high  note.  But  floods  played  spoilsport,  as  India's  first  night  race  on  a  street­circuit  which  was  scheduled  as  last  IRL  round  at  Chennai  was  put  off.  The  races  at  the  street  circuit  are  now  rescheduled  forward  to  be  held  as  a  round  in  2024  season.  The  second  franchise­based  Motorsports  league,  the  Indian  Supercross  League  (ISRL)  which  also  got  off  to  three  rounds  in  2023  season  had  to  face  similar  hurdles  for  the  final  round  scheduled  for  Delhi  due  to  ongoing  farmers  road­block.  However,  the  organisers  moved  the  venue  to  Bengaluru,  the  motorsports  cradle  of  India.  As  in  the  previous  year,  the  APRC  along  with  INRC  Chennai  round  are  scheduled  to  be  held  in  March  2024  but  one  has  to  wait  and  see  how  many  international  drivers  will  take  part  this  year.

While  three  new  Karting  tracks  are  coming  up  in  Bengaluru,  Coimbatore  and  Chennai,  it  is  a  wait­and­watch  game  to  see  if  the  tracks  shall  be  part  of  this  season's  karting  Nationals  as  venues.  INRC  2023  ended  up  with  a  very  healthy  participation  and  it  augurs  well  for  the  sport  in  the  country.  Promoter  BlueBand  Sports  bringing  back three forgotten venues Coorg, Hyderabad and Nagaland, back into  the  INRC  calendar  is  a  symbol  of  INRC  spreading  across  its  old  roots  and  is  a  welcome  move.

The  sprint  for  two­wheelers  which  ran  with  a  very  low  profile  is  set  for  a  change  of  promoter.  If  it  happens,  this  sport  will  get  back  its  muchneeded due. This season shall also see the Arjuna Awardee Gaurav  Gill,  supported  by  JK  Tyre,  back  in  International  Motorsports  arena,  where  he  is  deserves  to  be.  In  a  much­stabilised  way,  he  shall  debut  with  the  just­procured  Skoda  R5  in  a  few  rounds  of  the  WRC2  class  in  2024.  The  only  drawback  of  this  season  will  be  the  non­conclusion  of  Indian  National  Autocross  Championship  (INAC)  2023  winners  in  the  FMSCI  awards  gala.  Due  to  busy  four­wheeler  rallying  schedule,  the  final  round  of  2023  is  yet  to  be  held  and  the  championship  winners  would  be  declared  only  after  the  final  round.  Hence,  INAC  winners  will  be  honoured  only  after  the  finale.

T o c h a n g e I n d i a n M o t o r s p o r t s ,  M o t o G P i s n o t e s s e n t i a l B e c a u s e  similar  anticipation  was  there,  years  back,  when  F1  came  into  India.  But  there  were  a  few  up  gradations  which  w e r e r e q u i r e d f o r o t h e r r e l a t e d  events.  First  thing  was,  hardly  one  or  two  rounds  of  Motorsports  were  o r g a n i s e d i n B I C e v e r y y e a r N o t  many  prefer  the  circuit  considering  the  organising  expenses.  Only  Tata  Truck  race  was  the  activity  which  ran  to  the  fullest  potential  and  since  t h e p r o j e c t w a s r e d fl a g g e d , t h e  track  had  to  rely  only  on  promotional  events  and  activates  unrelated  to  Motorsports, to survive. But running  MotoGP  also  would  have  costed  a  bomb,  as  most  of  the  facilities  were  outdated  or  mismanaged…  or  left  unattended. Off course, every event,  s p e c i a l l y o f t h i s m a g n i t u d e h a s  some  or  the  other  things  to  learn,  b u t c a r r y i n g f o r w a r d i s a n i s s u e .  Never  the  less,  such  events  give  us  e x c i t e m e n t a n d t h e r e o n i t s h a l l  r e m a i n o n l y a M o t o r s p o r t s  d e s t i n a t i o n S i n c e M o t o G P h a d a  huge  fan  followup  in  India  we  had  a  packed  race  track.  This  success  will  definitely  play  an  important  role  post  event.

M R F F o r m u l a 2 0 0 0 c l a s s a n d  dominated the Round 1 even as  Bengaluru's  Abhay  Mohan,  the  youngest  competitor  at  15  years  of  age,  swept  to  a  triple  crown  in  the  MRF  Formula  1600  category  as  the  first  round  of  the  MRF  M M S C f m s c i I n d i a n N a t i o n a l  C a r R a c i n g C h a m p i o n s h i p  2024  concluded  at  the  Madras  International  Circuit.

MRF  Formula  2000:

The  eight­lap  Race  1  in  the  MRF  F o r m u l a c a t e g o r y w i t n e s s e d

some  fine  action.  Pole­sitter  17year­old  Jaden  Rahaman  Pariat  from  Shillong  looked  poised  to  win  in  the  F2000  class  going  into  the  last  lap  when  disaster  struck.  “There  was  some  issue  with  my  car  and  I  had  to  switch  off  and  s w i t c h o n e i g h t t i m e s i n t h e  last  lap.  Luckily,  I  had  a  sufficient  l e a d a n d m a n a g e d t o fi n i s h  s e c o n d , ” s a i d a d i s a p p o i n t e d  J a d e n a f t e r h e v i r t u a l l y g i f t e d  a w i n t o S u r i n e n i , w h o w a s  trailing  throughout  the  race.  Another  Bengalurean,  Tarun  Muthaiah  finished  third.

Reviewing  his  performance  this  w e e k e n d , J a d e n s a i d : “ I d i d  some  preparation  by  watching  m y o n b o a r d v i d e o s f r o m m y  December  race.  I  realised  there  was  plenty  in  the  car.  It  was  a  fi n a l d a y t o m a k e u p f o r h i s  P2  finish  in  Race  1  after  taking  a  massive  lead  due  to  engine  i s s u e s B e n g a l u r u ' s C h e t a n  S u r i n e n i , t h e R a c e ­ 1 w i n n e r ,  came  in  second  in  the  next  two  races.

Jaden  won  Race2  followed  by  C h e t a n i n s e c o n d a n d T a r u n  finished  third.  The  results  remained  the  same  in  Race  3  as  well,  Jaden  was  followed  by  Chetan  and  Tarun.

MRF  Formula  1600:

Meanwhile,  15­year­old  Abhay  M o h a n c o m f o r t a b l y w o n t h e  race1  ahead  of  the  Mumbai  pair  of  Zahan  Commissariat  and  Raaj  Bakhru  who  was  docked  a  20second  penalty  for  a  jump  start.  C o m m i s s a r i a t fi n i s h e d s e c o n d  and  Bakhru  finished  third.

Abhay  Mohan,  as  in  the  first  race,  was  in  a  league  of  his  own  in

both  the  outings  on  the  final  day  to  complete  a  triple  crown  a n d u n d e r l i n e h i s t a l e n t a n d  potential.

Abhay  won  the  Race  2,  as  he  was  followed  by  Zahan  in  second  and  Monith  Kumaran  from  Chennai  fi n i s h e d t h i r d R a c e 3 a l s o  belonged  to  Abhay  and  Zahan  once  again  finished  in  second  while  Bakhru  finished  third.

“My  only  target  for  this  round  was  to  be  on  top,  which  I  did.  The  car  too  was  pretty  good  a    nd  so  were  the  MRF  tyres.  My  preparation  was  to  get  fit  and  learn  from  my  Formula  LGB  1300  outing  last  season.  Yes,  I  feel  good  to  have  won  all  three  races  this  weekend,”  said  Abhay.

Indian  Touring  Cars:

In  Race  1,  Biren,  starting  from  pole,  was  off  to  a  good  start  and  held  off  Ritesh  Rai  from  Arka  Motorsport  with  cousin  Ananth  P i t h a w a l l a f r o m N 1 R a c i n g  r u n n i n g t h i r d T h e p o s i t i o n  remained  unchanged  until  the  latter  half  of  the  eight­lap  race  when  Ananth  squeezed  past  Rai  at  Turn­3  with  a  contact  between  t h e t w o , a n d m o v e d i n t o P 2  behind  his  cousin  Biren.  In  the  penultimate  lap,  Ananth  retired  when  the  left  front  tyre,  that  was  on  a  slow  puncture,  burst,  and

Rai  regained  the  second  spot.  B y t h e n , B i re n h a d p u l l e d o f f  s uffici ent  lead  to  wi n  handil y,  f o l l o w e d b y R a i i n s e c o n d  position  and  Deepak  Ravikumar  f r o m P e r f o r m a n c e R a c i n g  finished  third,  making  his  debut  in  this  class.

Biren,  having  won  a  close  Race  1  on  Saturday,  started  P4  on  the  reverse  grid  in  the  10­lap  Race  2,  but  in  the  very  first  lap,  seized  the

l e a d , h o t l y p u r s u e d b y R a i ,  cousin  and  team­mate  Ananth  Pithawalla.

c r u i s e m o d e a n d c o m f o r t a b l y  won  the  race  ahead  of  pole­sitter  Pratik  Sonawane  from  Buzzing  H o r n e t M o t o r s p o r t i n s e c o n d  a n d D e e p a k R a v i k u m a r f r o m  T e a m P e r f o r m a n c e R a c i n g i n  third.

Matharoo  fought  his  way  to  his  second win of the weekend with  a  late  burst.  In  Race  2,  he  was  t h e t o p p e r w i t h l e s s t h a n a  second  difference  on  the  Redline  Racing  driver  Manan  Patel,  who  settled  for  second  position  and  A n i r u d h a w i t h e i g h t s e c o n d s  difference  finished  in  third  position.

Formula  LGB1300:

Formula  LGB  1300  triple­header,  w i t h a p o d i u m s w e e p a s  Nellore's  Viswas  Vijayaraj  won  two  races  and  teammate  Arya  Singh,  the  other  with  Balaprasath  fi n i s h i n g t h i r d i n a l l t h r e e  outings.

Both  Viswas  and  Arya  took  the  front  row  in  that  order  for  their  team,  DTS  Racing,  after  a  starts t o p ­ s t a r t q u a l i f y i n g s e s s i o n  interrupted  by  a  red  flag  due  to  an  on­track  incident.

Viswas  won  the  Race  1,  as  he  m a n a g e d t o k e e p A r y a S i n g h  behind  him  in  second  position  with  a  lead  of  over  two  seconds  and    Balaprasath    from

Coimbatore  finished  third  with  a  14­sec  difference.  In  Race  2,  Arya   occupied  the  top  position  with  a  lead  of  four  seconds  over  the  second­placed  finisher  Viswas.

Balaprasath  was  a  further  fours e c b e h i n d i n t h i r d V i s w a s  bounced  back  to  top  slot  with  a  five­sec  difference  on  Arya  who  finished second in Race 3. It was  a  consistent  third  position  finish  for  Balaprasath  this  time  with  fi v e ­ s e c o n d d i f f e r e n c e a s h e  settled  for  third.

MRF  Saloons  (Toyota  Etios):

Late  in  the  evening,  Pune's  Diana  Pundole  won  the  Race  1  with  ease  in  a  race  interrupted  by  a  s a f e t y c a r p e r i o d f o l l o w i n g a  t h r e e ­ c a r c o l l i s i o n A n i r u d h a  A r v i n d f r o m C h e n n a i fi n i s h e d  second  and  Jai  Prashanth  from  Coimbatore  finished  third.

I n R a c e 2 , A n i r u d h a w a s t h e  winner  followed  by  Jai  Prashanth  V e n k a t f r o m C o i m b a t o r e i n  s e c o n d p o s i t i o n w h i l e D i a n a  Pundole  from  Pune  was  third.  A l s o n o t c h i n g a d o u b l e w a s  Pune's  Diana  Pundole,  a  mother  of  two,  besides  one  P3  finish.  She  dominated  the  podium  for  the  second  time  as  she  won  the  Race  3. Anirudha finished second and  Kesara  Godage  from  Sri  Lanka  finished  third.

It  was  a  double  victory  for  Tijil  Rao  in  LGB  Formula  4  races  despite  Championship  leader  Ruhaan  Alva  stealing  a  win  in  Race  2.  Arjun  secured  a  double  as  well  in  the  JK  Tyre  Novice  Cup  while  Anish  Shetty  topped  the  RE  Continental  GT  Cup  with  a  triple  victory  in  the  final  round  t h o f t h e 2 6 J K T y r e F M S C I  National  Racing  Championship  that  concluded  at  the  Kari  Motor  Speedway  in  Chettipalayam,  Coimbatore  on  Nov  18.

Race  1: It  has  never  been  such  a  close  battle  between  the  topthree.  All  the  three  races  went  down  to  the  wire.  With  just  a  few  p o i n t s s e p a r a t i n g t h e m , t h e y  knew  it  was  now  or  never  and  gave  their  best,  one  more  time.  Ruhaan  Alva  from  MSport  was  the  winner  with  a  total  time  of  1 9 m i n 4 8 5 5 s e c f

R a c e 2 : B e n g a l u r u ' s R u h a a n  started  with  a  fighting  win  over  Tijil  of  Dark  Don  Racing  in  the  opening  race.  It  did  boost  his  c o n fi d e n c e a n d f u r t h e r e d h i s  p o i n t s t a l l y g o i n g i n t o t h e  second  race.  The  former  took  advantage  of  the  pole  position  and  raced  to  a  quick  lead.  He  was  in  control  for  over  four  laps  but  quite  soon,  he  found  Arya  and  I t w a s w h e e l ­ t o ­ w h e e l r a c i n g  between  the  three  from  there  on.  Even  as  Arya  and  Tijil  were  fighting  in  the  front  for  some  t i m e , R u h a a n m a d e a c l e v e r  th move  in  the  first  corner  of  11 lap  to  take  the  lead.  But  soon,  he

surrendered  it  again.

The  duo  Arya  Singh  and  Tijil  Rao  m a i n t a i n e d a s t e a d y p a c e t o  fi n i s h o n e ­ t w o f o r D a r k D o n  while  Ruhaan  had  to  rest  content  w i t h t h e t h i r d s p o t d e s p i t e a  photo  finish.

I n t h e l a s t r a c e o f t h e d a y ,  Ruhaan  was  quick  off  the  blocks.

So  did  Tijil  and  TS  Diljith.  The  battle  royal  had  the  spectators

on  the  edge  of  their  seats  but  Tijil  held  his  nerve  to  finish  on  top.  Ruhaan  finished  in  second  and  TS  Diljith  came  third.

Tijil  had  his  second  podium  of  the  round  followed  by  Ruhaan  Alva  in  second  and  Mira  Erda  f r o m M S p o r t h a d h e r fi r s t  podium  of  the  round.

JK  Tyre  Novice  Cup The  fight  was  similar  and  as  close

as  the  LGB  Formula  4  class  in  the Novice section too. Neythan  M c P h e r s o n o f M o m e n t u m  M o t o r s p o r t e d g e d o u t  t e a m m a t e a n d c h a m p i o n s h i p  leader  Arjun  S  Nair  in  the  first  race.  But  Arjun,  a  fighter  that  h e i s , s h o t b a c k t o w i n t h e  second  race  in  style  and  further  s t r e n g t h e n e d h i s c h a n c e s o f  clinching  the  championship

crown  with  a  tally  of  62  points.

In  Race  1,  Neythan  McPherson  won  defeating  Arjun  S  Nair  by  th 300 of  a  second  as  his  t e a m m a t e J i g a r M u n i w i t h  further  three  seconds  behind  in  third.

Race  2  was  a  very  close  finish  for  the  top  three  as  Arjun  finished  on

t o p a n d A b h a y f r o m M S p o r t  th came  second  200 of  a  second  behind.  Joel  Joseph  from  DTS  Racing  finished  within  the  same  th second  in  third,  another  300 of  a  second  behind.  The  final  race  o f t h e c a t e g o r y o n c e a g a i n  belonged  to  Arjun  followed  by  Neythan  in  second  and  Jigar  in  third.

Anish  Shetty  underlined  his  class  with  a  well­deserved  Triple  win.  In  Race  1,  Jagadeesh  Nagaraj  from  Bengaluru  with  a  time  of  6:05.395  won  the  race  beating  A n i s h S h e t t y a l s o f r o m  B e n g a l u r u b y a s e c o n d  difference.  Vignesh  Goud  from  H y d e r a b a d , w i t h l e s s t h a n a  second  behind,  came  third.

The  Race  3  of  the  class  also  went  Anish's  way.  He  won  with  over  2sec  difference.  He  managed  to  keep  Jagadeesh  beind  him  in  s e c o n d a n d R a j k u m a r f r o m  C o i m b a t o r e w i t h l e s s t h a n a  second  difference  came  third.

The  final  race  of  the  day  saw  Anish win again. Abhishek came  second  and  MD  Samrul  Zubair  was  third,  less  than  a  second  behind.

lead  over  Kolkata's  Arya  Singh  of  Dark  Don  Racing.  With  just  a  race  to  go,  it  was  enough  for  the  Bengaluru  boy  to  seal  the  title.  But  it  turned  out  to  be  a  different  story  as  Arya  got  some  relief  and  h i s p o i n t s b a c k a f t e r t h e y  appealed  to  the  Indian  Motor  Sports  Appeal  Court  (IMSAC).  So  d i d a c o u p l e o f M o m e n t u m  Motorsport  drivers  in  the  JK  Tyre  Novice  Cup.

penultimate  round  at  the  same  venue  for  technical  infringement  and  they  slipped  down  the  table.  So  that  put  the  pressure  back  on  Ruhaan  gunning  for  his  maiden  National  championship  title  in  the  premier  category.  However,  Ruhaan  put  that  at  the  back  of  his  head  and  fought  hard  from  P8  to  take  the  second  spot  on  the podium in the final race and  e m e r g e t h e c h a m p i o n w i t h a  final  tally  of  82  points.

T h e y o u n g s t e r w a s o b v i o u s l y  elated  after  the  race.  “I  feel  great  to  have  got  the  title.  It  was  a  crazy  final  race.  Diljith  [Dark  Don]  and  I  were  involved  in  a  great  battle  that  went  neck  and  neck.  He  tried  to  hold  me  up  for  some  time  but  I  managed  to  cut  a  corner  to  come  in  second,”  said  Ruhaan.  “It  was  a  bit  tense  at  the  beginning  but  I  am  a  lot  relieved  now,”  he  added.

Cooper  Webster  from  Chennai  Turbo  Riders  emerged  as  the  champion  of  the  first­ever  RPPL  promoted  FIA  Formula  4  in  India  after  final  concluding  round  at  the  Madras  International  Circuit,  near  Chennai,  recently.  Rishon  Rajeev  from  Speed  Demons  Delhi  with  220  points  was  first  runner­up  while  Akshay  Bohra  from  God  Speed  Kochi  with  211  points  finished  third.  Webster  garnered  a  total  to  282.5  points  for  his  maiden  FIA  Indian  F4  title.

Going  into  the  finals,  20­year  Webster,  was  far  ahead  of  the  rest  with  a  lead of over 44 points and there was a close battle for the remaining  t h r e e p o s i t i o n s b e t w e e n t h e I n d i a n d r i v e r s w i t h j u s t 1 0 p o i n t s  separating  the  three  of  them  behind  Webster.  The  16­year­old  Akshay  Bohra  had  a  lead  of  10  points  over  Shahan  Ali  Mohsin  and  Rishon  Rajeev,  who  were  both  tied  with  similar  points.  This  event  saw  drivers  p r o g r e s s i n g w i t h n o p r o p e r c a r r a c i n g e x p e r i e n c e b e f o r e t h i s  championship.  Having  an  own  F4  championship  is  the  first  stepping  stone  from  National  karting,  which  is  a  major  platform  for  grooming  drivers  to  international  platform.  Very  close  lap  times  mean  the  young  drivers  were  elevating  themselves  to  the  next  level.

The  qualifying  session  was  held  under  wet  conditions  due  to  overnight  and  early  morning  rains,  and  a  few  patches  of  the  track  were  dry  while  there  were  many  very  wet  patches.

Race  1  began  and  the  top­three  drivers  managed  to  retain  their  positions.  Hoang  started  losing  ground  to  Rishon  Rajeev,  who  was  th almost  on  his  back  by  the  end  of  4 minute  and  was  within  the  striking  distance  and  he  even  managed  to  come  back  twice  after  sliding  out.  In  the  very  next  minute,  Rohaan  Madhesh  climbed  one  position  up  by  th pushing  Taylor  behind  him.  In  the  16 minute,  on  a  right  hander,  Nooris Gafoor challenged Jack Taylor from inside. With nine minutes  to  go,  Jain  got  an  opportunity  to  sneak  past  Mohsin  to  be  on  fifth.

Cooper  Webster  from  Chennai  Turbo  Riders  clinched  his  seventh  topfinish  of  the  season  from  12  races  and  managed  to  keep  Akshay  Bohra  from  God  Speed  Kochi  behind  him,  with  a  difference  of  11  sec.  Sawer  Hoang  Dat  from  Hyderabad  Black  Birds  completed  the  podium  with  a  further  difference  of  over  six  seconds.  Rishon  Rajeev  from  Speed  Demons  Delhi  was  following  Sawer  very  closely  but  finally  had  to  finish  behind  in  fourth.  Rishab  Jain  from  Chennai  Turbo  Riders  finished  fifth.  Shahan  Ali  Mohsin  from  Hyderabad  Black  Birds  came  sixth  and  Rohaan  Madesh from Bengaluru Speedsters was seventh and just missed the  reverse  grid  pole.  Cooper  had  extended  his  lead  to  over  51  points  on  Akshay.

In  Race  2,  pole­sitter  Shahan  Ali  Mohsin  lost  his  position  in  the  very  first  corner  as  Rishon  was  quick  enough  to  take  him  on  the  outer  right  and  a  few  moments  l a t e r T a y l o r w a s o u t a n d t h e  safety  board  was  displayed.  Jain  without  noticing  it,  was  going  p a s t S h a h a n a n d d u r i n g t h i s  damaged  Shahan's  car.  Hence  Shahan  had  to  return  to  pits  to  sort  it  out.  While  the  cars  slowed  down  due  to  yellow  flag,  Akshay  B o h r a u n a b l e t o r e a d t h e  situation,  mistimed  his  breaking  and  banged  Hoang  from  behind  and  had  to  pull  out,  thus  giving  Cooper  a  cake  walk.  Once  the  safety  car  was  out  in  the  18th

minute, the action shifted to the  nd rd th 2 ,  3 and  4 positions,  a  fight  between  Rishab  Jain,  Hoang  Dat  and  Cooper  Webster,  which  went  on  till  the  last  minute  with  a  few  close  moments  of  action.

Doang,  the  16­years­old,  held  on  to  his  podium  position  against  t h e c h a m p i o n s h i p w i n n e r  Cooper.  Rishon  Rajeev  with  over  5 ­ s e c l e a d w a s t h e w i n n e r  followed  by  Rishab  in  second  but  i t w a s s h o r t l i v e d a s h e w a s  penalised  with  a  30­sec  penalty  f o r o v e r t a k i n g u n d e r y e l l o w  fl a g s T h e n h e l a n d e d i n 8 t h  position.  In  the  process,  Hoang  fi n i s h e d s e c o n d a n d C o o p e r  finished  on  the  podium  in  third.  At  the  back  of  the  grid,  there  was  a  fierce  battle  between  Chheda  th and  Shahan  for  the  6 position.  Akshay  Chheda  in  his  very  first  F4  outing  managed  to  defend  his  position  till  the  end  to  finish  fifth  while  Rohaan  finished  in  fourth  position  and  Shahan  was  sixth.

In Race 4, it was a great start for  Shahan,  who  took  off  to  a  good  lead  right  from  C2  and  Rohaan  Madesh  was  in  second  ahead  of  Hoang.  Rishab  Jain  made  a  very  bold  move  in  the  very  first  lap  o v e r C o o p e r , f r o m t h e i n n e r  right,  to  go  past  him  and  climbed  to  sixth  position.  When  just  over  a m i n u t e p a s s e d , C o o p e r  r e g a i n e d h i s l o s t p o s i t i o n ,  managing  to  go  past  Jain  who  tried  hard  to  defend  his  position  in  vain.  This  was  the  most  actionpacked  race  of  the  season  with  the  top­seven  drivers  engaging  in  the  battle.  With  16min  left,  Cooper  tried  twice  to  go  past  Bohra  but  had  to  back  off.  Hoang  had  closed  the  gap  on  Rohaan,  who  was  running  second  and  with  6  min  left,  he  managed  to  go  past  him.  Hoang  from  there  on  was  on  Shahan's  neck  till  the  c h e q u e r e d fl a g S h a h a n A l i  Mohsin  defended  well  to  finish  on  top  followed  by  Hoang  in  s e c o n d a n d R o h a a n c a m e i n  third.  But  the  10­sec  penalty  for  a  jump  start  pushed  Rohaan  out  of  podium.  Rishon  Rajeev  finished  t h i r d A k a h s y B o h r a w a s  s u c c e s s f u l i n d e f e n d i n g h i s  f o u r t h p o s i t i o n f r o m C o o p e r  Webster,  who  had  to  settle  for  fifth.

H a r i t h N o a h b e c a m e t h e m o s tcelebrated  rider  from  India  bagging  t h e c o v e t e d D a k a r R a l l y 2 v i c t o r y a n d a n  th overall  11 place  in  the  general  ranking  for  m o t o r c y c l e s , a f t e r 1 2 g r u e l l i n g s t a g e s ,  8000km  and  14  days  in  the  desert  dunes  a n d r o c k y ­ m o u n t a i n s , a t t h e D a k a r R a l l y  2024  which  concluded  here  on  Friday.  He  clocked  an  overall  54hours,  24minutes  and  44seconds  for  the  12  stages  in  14  days.

The  30­year­old  from  Kerala,  Harith  Noah,  concluded his good run at the mighty Dakar

th 2024  with  a  cautious  5 place  in  the  328­km  th 12 stage  in  the  Rally2  class  and  managed  to  th retain  his  11 position  in  the  overall  general  rankings  with  a  splendid  P11  in  final  day's  ranking.  With  this  dominating  performance  in  one  of  the  most­demanding  and  toughest  cross­country  rallies  in  the  world,  the  Sports  Science  graduate  from  Shoranur  in  Kerala,  entrenched  himself  in  the  annals  of  Indian  motorsports  with  a  milestone  that  will  be  difficult  to  reach  in  the  near  future.

prologue  on  January  5  in  a  cautious  way  th finishing  29 but  increased  the  tempo  to  finish  P22  in  the  very  first  Stage  of  Selective  Section  after  Day  1  and  managed  to  improve  his  riding  with  stunning  results  after  each  stage  and  each  day,  thereafter.  Staying  put  in  the  top­20,  he  delivered  a  killer  punch  on  the  t o u g h e s t S t a g e 6 t h a t h a d t w o d a y s o f  marathon  without  service,  and  Noah,  made  the  best  use  of  the  difficult  conditions  to  shoot  to  P13  overall.  From  then  on,  the  second  week  of  Dakar  saw  his  switching  up  g e a r s i n t o t h e e l i t e z o n e , w i t h s t u n n i n g

“I'm  happy  that  I've  finished.  That  was  the  main  goal.  It  is  to  reach  t h e fi n i s h i n g l i n e a n d w e a r e  here.  I'm  really  blessed  to  be  here.  I  learned  a  lot  this  year,  e s p e c i a l l y d u r i n g t h e s e c o n d  week,  I  felt  really  strong  and  it's  something  to  build  on  for  next  year.  I  don't  know  if  I  won  my

category.  If  I  have,  that's  good.  I  knew  I  was  somewhere  in  the  top  3,  but  I  didn't  know  anything  more,  that's  nice.  I  tried  to  not  have  any  expectations.  I  just  tried  to  ride  every  kilometre  one  at  a  time.  I  tried  to  navigate  and  not  look  at  the  results,  just  riding  the  bike. I think the most surprised I  was  on  Stage  10,  I  think,  when  I  was  leading  for  some  time  and  then  I  got  fifth  overall  on  the  scratch.  That  really  surprised  me.  It's  a  really  nice  feeling  to  know  that  you  have  it  in  you.  I  don't  know what happened. I think on  the  second  week  I  just  felt  better  on  the  bike,  the  bike  was  working  perfectly.  It  was  the  same  bike  until  the  finish,  still  really  strong,  so  I  was  really  comfortable  on  the  bike,  it  was  good.  It  feels  good  to  win.  I  hope  it  motivates  other  riders,  younger  riders,  to  do  the  same  or  try  to  pursue  the

In  Race  3  for  the  250cc  India  and  Asia  riders,  Ben  Prasit  Hallgren  of  Thailand  took  the  hole  shot  and  sneaked  into  the  lead  with  compatriot  Athison  Ruadero  and  Thanarat Penjan fighting behind  him  for  a  second  place.  But  after  a  few  laps,  Hallgren  had  a  fall  l e a v i n g t h e l e a d t o T h a n a r a t  Penjan,  who  had  a  steady  race  a n d w o n c o m f o r t a b l y a s t r i d e  a K a w a s a k i 2 5 0 c c a h e a d o f  Ruadero  in  second  and  Sarthak  Chavan  of  India  completed  the  podium.  Penjan  clocked  9min,  5 4 8 7 7 s e c o n d s i n t h e 1 4 ­ l a p  t h r i l l e r R u g v e d B a r g u j e , t h e  National  Supercross  champion  2023,  could  only  take  a  fourth  place.

Tixier,  the  current  ISRL  leader  in  t h e i n d i v i d u a l l e a d e r b o a r d ,  t r a i l i n g i n t h e f e a t u r e A l l ­ s t a r  race,  boxed  the  Aussie  rider  in  an  aggressive  move  and  his  back  tyre hit the front of the Big Rock  rider.  Moss  took  a  tumble  as  a  result  and  lost  the  lead  and  was  visibly  disturbed.  Jordi  Tixier  won  the  race  but  the  duo  had  an  'exchange  of  words'  at  the  finish  line  but  soon  Tixier,  explained  his  case  and  rendered  an  apology.  M o s s , w a s c l e a r l y d e n i e d a  d o u b l e w i n t o d a y b u t t h e  Australian  accepted  the  apology  and  thanked  his  team,  BigRock  Motorsports,  for  the  wonderful

bike  and  all  the  arrangements.  “I  am  pleased  with  the  Ahmedabad  track  here  and  happy  to  see  a  huge  crowd.  We  have  prepared  w e l l a n d I a m v e r y h a p p y t o  t a k e t h e l e a d i n t h e t e a m  championship,”  said  Moss,  after  the  races.  Earlier  in  the  first  race,  the  450cc  Moto  1,  Tixier  was  at  f a u l t w h e n h e c l a s h e d w i t h  Cedric  of  Big  Rock  and  both  had  a  fall.  However,  the  aggressive  reaction  by  Cedric  on  the  track  was  considered  'bad  behaviour'  and  he  was  excluded  from  the  rest  of  the  motos.

S e v e n m o t o s w e r e h e l d o n  Sunday.  There  were  two  motos  f o r t h e 4 5 0 c c b i k e s f o r  international  riders.  Then  there  were  two  motos  each  for  the  T h e B i g R o c k M o t o r s p o r t s  continued  to  dominate  the  team  championship  table  as  its  riders  took  many  podium  places.  Matt  Moss,  the  star  athlete  of  BigRock  Motorsports,  riding  the  Kawasaki  KX450S,  secured  first  place  in  t h e 4 5 0 c c i n t e r n a t i o n a l r a c e Reid  Taylor,  also  from  BigRock  Motorsport,  astride  a  Kawasaki  K X 2 5 0 , w o n t h e 2 5 0 c c  international  race  and  went  on  to  take  a  second­place  in  the  all­star  race,  competing  against  450cc bikes. Punching above his  weight,  Taylor  kept  Big  Rock  in

good  stead  after  Moss  had  a  fall  a n d h i s s e c o n d p l a c e p o i n t s  helped  the  team  very  much.  Ben  P r a s i t H a l l g r e n o f M o h i t e ' s  Racing  riding  the  Kawasaki  won  t h e 2 5 0 c c I n d i a A s i a M i x  category.  The  electrifying  races  drew  a  crowd  of  over  8,000.

French  rider  Thomas  Ramette,  a s t r i d e a K a w a s a k i K X 4 5 0 S ,  began  with  a  bang  winning  the  first  moto  of  the  day  in  the  450cc  SX1  for  international  riders.  He  took  the  hole  shot  and  kept  a  marauding  Matt  Moss  as  bay  for  the  initial  laps  and  won  with  a  c o m f o r t a b l e r a c e a t t h e e n d Germany's  Nico  Koch  also  on  a  similar  bike  came  third  making  it  two  podiums  for  Reise,  which  i s n o w s e c o n d i n t h e t e a m  standings.

Indian  flag  flying  high  with  their  determined  and  focussed  drives  with  multiple  podium  finishes  at  the  Danau  Toba  Rally,  which  also

hosted  the  APRC.

The  APRC  was  run  concurrently  with  the  Danau  Toba  Rally  of  t h e I n d o n e s i a N a t i o n a l R a l l y

C h a m p i o n s h i p ( I N R C ) , t h e J K  Tyre  Motorsport  team  of  drivers  w e r e v y i n g f o r t o p s p o t i n

the  overall  APRC,  in  the  NVA  ( N a t i o n a l V e h i c l e s A p p r o v a l )  class  and  in  the  M2  class  of  the  INRC.

Driving  a  4­wheel  drive  car  in  the  r a l l y f o r t h e fi r s t t i m e w i t h a

limited  testing  time  of  just  6  km,  three  Indian  drivers  finished  the  APRC  finale  held  in  Indonesia  within  the  top­8.  The  rally  was  held  along  with  the  Indonesian  Rally  Championship.

Pacific  Rally  Championship  title  2023  in  his  maiden  outing  and  b e c a m e t h e fi r s t I n d i a n t o  a c h i e v e t h i s t i t l e W h i l e h i s  t e a m m a t e s , S u h e m K a b e e r  along  with  PVS  Murthy,  finished  fourth  overall,  the  pair  of  Lokesh  G o w d a a n d c o ­ d r i v e r A s h w i n  Naik  finished  fifth.

A  total  of  12  stages  counted  to  about  150  km  of  special  stage

distance  within  a  total  of  433km  t h a t a l s o i n c l u d e d t r a n s p o r t  section.  The  Danau  Toba  Rally  was  spread  across  12  all­gravel  roads  from  conditions  varying  f r o m w i d e ­ o p e n p l a n t a t i o n  sections  to  twisty  and  winding  mountainous  sections.

T h e s t a g e s w e r e c h a l l e n g i n g ,  technical  and  fast,  while  the  rain  made  the  surface  a  repeatedly­

c h a n g i n g c o u r s e , t h u s f o r c i n g  a l l t h e p a r t i c i p a n t s t o d r i v e  cautiously.  Thus  huge  amount  of  dropouts,  of  about  28,  were  on  second  day.  Indian  drivers  showed  much  maturity  to  adapt  to  the  surface  conditions  and  reached  the  finish.

A f t e r s e a l i n g t h e J u n i o r I N R C  class  back  home,  Jahaan  in  his  v e r y fi r s t I n t e r n a t i o n a l o u t i n g ,  driving  a  Subaru,  managed  to  perform  at  his  best  despite  a  f u e l ­ p u m p i s s u e p o p p i n g ­ u p  th  on  Day  2.  He  was  placed  15 on  Day  1  after  in  a  2.07km  Super

S p e c i a l S t a g e ( S S S ) . H e w a s  th 12 fastest  in  Stage  2  at  Toba  Sari  which  was  run  within  the    t e a e s t a t e s u n d e r s l i p p e r y  conditions  as  this  location  had  a  very  heavy  overnight  rain.  But  t h e p r o g r e s s o f t h i s 2 1 ­ y e a r  d r i v e r w a s s h o r t l i v e d B e f o r e  entering  the  next  stage  at  Corbus,  his  vehicle  stalled  due  to  fuel  pump  issues  and  the  vehicle  had  to  be  brought  to  service  after  skipping  Hota  Tonga  and  Negeri  Dolok  stages.  He  rejoined  i n S t a g e 6 b u t n e v e r h a d a  trouble­free  run  and  had  to  pull  out  for  the  day  with  a  stage  left.

In  M2  class,  which  was  part  of  the  Indonesia  Rally  Championship,  S u h e m a n d M u r t h y fi n i s h e d  second  while  Lokesh  and  Ashwin  were  third.  The  celebration  just  d i d n ' t e n d w i t h t h e d r i v e r s  ruling  the  podium  as  team  JK  He  took  a  start  on  Day  2.  The  second  stage  was  too  slippery  at

t h d r i v e r P V S M u r t h y , w a s 1 7 fastest  in  SSS  on  Day  1.  They  b e g a n t h e i r D a y 2 v e r y  cautiously,  since  the  track  was  a  bit  slippery.  And  in  the  second  stage  of  the  day,  they  spun  once  and  lost  some  time.  But  they  managed  to  reach  the  remote  s e r v i c e w i t h n o r e v e r s e g e a r Fixing  this  issue  in  remote  service  was  impossible  as  it  was  meant  o n l y f o r t y r e c h a n g e a n d  refuelling.  Thus,  with  no  option  left  for  further  two  stages,  they  had  to  manage,  but  it  became  much  worse  before  the  last  stage  before  service  and  they  had  to  rd take  on  the  stage  with  only  3 gear  working.  It  was  later  fixed  in  service  and  they  ended  their  day  th in  10 position.  They  began  the  fi n a l d a y w i t h a b o u t 8 ­ m i n  difference  with  the  leader  and  hence  catching  them  was  out  of  question.  They  also  had  a  good  lead  on  their  follower  in  third  position. So they decided to just  nurse  the  car  back  to  the  finish  in  fourth  position.

Toba  Sari  and  he  managed  to  m a k e g o o d t i m i n g B u t o n c e  again,  trouble  followed  him  on  the  final  day.  In  service,  the  car  was  not  cranking  and  the  starter  had to be replaced. Thus, he left  the  service  3  minutes  late  which  give  him  additional  penalty  of  3 0 s e c T h i s y o u n g s t e r w a s s o  determined  that  he  overcame  all  odd's  to  bring  the  car  to  the  finish.

“It  was  one  of  the  most­difficult  rallies  that  I  have  taken  part.  It  was  an  uncharted  territory  for  us  with  little  knowledge  of  the  terrain.  The  slush  made  the  stages  very  slippery  and  I  had  to  dig  deep  into  my  reservoir  to  finish  the  event  unscathed,”  Suhem  said.

“I  am  really  happy  with  this  achievement  and  would  like  to  t h a n k J K T y r e M o t o r s p o r t  a n d V a m c y M e r l a S p o r t s  Foundation  for  their  support.  It  was  a  very  difficult  terrain  and  driving  for  the  first  time,  it  was  not  an  easy  task.  The  stages  were  very  tricky  and  the  rains  made  it  worse.  We  knew  the  hazards  of  driving  on  this  surface  but  we  held  our  act  together  and  managed  to  end  on  the  podium,”  said  an  elated  Jahaan  Singh  Gill.

Rugved  Barguje  from  Petronas  TVS  Racing  won  the  final  round  with  37  points  from  two  motos.  S h l o k G h o r p a d e , a p r i v a t e e r  from  Satara,  bagged  31  points  to  finish  second.  Ikshan  Shanbhag,  also  from  Petronas  TVS  Racing,  came  third  with  30  points.  The  remaining  two  places  were  taken  by  his  TVS  teammates,  CD  Jinan  w i t h s i m i l a r 3 0 p o i n t s a n d  Prajwal  V  with  24  points  as  they  finished  fourth  and  fifth  in  that  order.

The  very  first  Moto  of  the  day  w a s d o m i n a t e d b y S h l o k  Ghorpade  as  he  got  off  to  a  good  start  and  steadily  extended  his  lead  to  reach  the  chequered  flag  fi r s t W h i l e t h e r e w a s m u c h  action  behind  him,  CD  Jinan  was  running second but Rugved and  Ikshan  were  after  him.  Mid­way  through  the  race,  Jinan  slowed  down  as  Rugved  Barguje  and  I k s h a n S h a n b h a g b o t h w e n t  p a s t h i m B u t P r a j w a l V w h o  w a s r u n n i n g s e c o n d i n t h e  championship  had  to  struggle  hard  and  managed  to  climb  up  but  had  a  fall  that  halted  his  progress.  Jinan  managed  to  gain  a  place  back  and  finished  third.  Shlok  Ghorpade  finished  on  top  followed  by  Rugved  Barguje  in  second  ahead  of  Jinan.  Ikshan  S h a n b h a g w a s f o u r t h a n d

In  Moto  2,  Prajwal  V  got  the  hole  shot  and  was  leading  the  pack  while  there  was  a  very  good  fight  going  on  for  the  second  position  between  Ikshan  and  Shlok,  who  had  scaled  up  from  last  position.  W i t h 5 l a p s t o g o , t h e m a i n  action  began.  On  a  left  hander,  Prajwal  was  on  his  extreme  right  and  Ikshan  took  the  inner  line  to  overtake  him  and  with  space  left  Prajwal  had  to  fall  from  the  pot  shot  and  by  the  time  he  could  rejoin  everyone  else  had  crossed  him.  Later,  he  had  to  rejoin  in  fifth  position.

Ikshan  was  the  new  leader  and  in  the  very  next  lap,  he  overshot  a n d h a d t o r e j o i n s k i p p i n g a  jump.  Meanwhile,  there  was  a  fierce  battle  going  on  between  Rugved  and  Shlok.  Later,  Rugved

took  a  wild  move  and  Shlok  had  a  fall.  In  the  final  lap,  Ikshan  had  o v e r s h o t w h i l e d e f e n d i n g h i s  position  and  Barguje  took  the  lead.  From  then  on  he  finished  the  final  lap  with  care  to  take  the  c h e q u e r e d fl a g f o l l o w e d b y  Ikshan  Shanbhag  in  second  and  C D J i n a n i n t h i r d . P r a j w a l V  fi n i s h e d f o u r t h a n d S h l o k  Ghorpade  from  Satara  had  to  recover  from  the  fall  and  finished  fifth.

Pradesh  turned  their  overnight  lead  into  a  memorable  victory  at  the  iconic  BlueBand  K1000  Rally,  and  won  the  2023  INRC2  title  bagging  full  40  points  in  the  sixth  and  final  round  of  the  Blueband  S p o r t s f m s c i I n d i a n N a t i o n a l  Rally  Championship  (INRC)  for  four­wheelers,  which  concluded  a t G u b b i , a b o u t 9 5 k m f r o m  Bengaluru.

T h e e v e n t w a s o r g a n i s e d b y  Karnataka  Motor  Sports  Club

(KMSC)  with  59  competitors  in  fray  saw  only  32  cars  finish  the  two­day  rally.  Six  cars  on  Day  1  and  21  cars  on  Day  2  did  not  finish  (DNF).

There  were  two  physical  Special  Stages  (SS).  Thirtharama  stage  w h i c h w a s 2 0 7 8 k m l o n g a n d  H a t y a l u w a s 1 5 7 4 k m T h e  9 6 7 k m K o n d l i s t a g e w a s n o t  held  due  to  technical  reasons  a n d t h e l e n g t h o f t h e o t h e r  t w o s t a g e s w e r e i n c r e a s e d t o  compensate  for  the  distance.  On  Friday, both the stages were run  twice  in  the  same  direction  and

H y d e r a b a d , r e p r e s e n t i n g S n a p  Racing,  with  a  difference  of  1min  12sec  with  the  leader  completed  the  podium.

a n d c l o c k e d t h e f a s t e s t s t a g e  t i m e s i n t h e fi r s t t w o s p e c i a l  stages  but  it  was  his  compatriot  y o u n g g u n H a r k r i s h a n W a d i a ,  who  stole  the  limelight  beating  the  best  in  the  next  two  stages  on  Day  1  as  Gill  faced  a  few  issues  w i t h h i s c a r W i t h t w o m o r e  repeat  stages  left  to  be  taken  on  Day  2,  he  clocked  the  fastest  stage  time  of  the  rally  and  he  m a n a g e d t o c l i m b f r o m fi f t h  position  to  second  position.  He  cut  down  the  lead  by  47  sec  in  this single stage from 1min 9sec  before  the  Day  2  start  and  closed  in  on  the  leader  Harkrishan  with  only a 22­sec gap. With the final  stage  of  about  12kms  left,  he  left  no  stone  unturned  but  ran  out  of  luck  with  just  5kms  to  the  finish  and  had  to  pull  out  due  to  ball  joint  issues.

After  finishing  fourth  on  Day  1,  the  pair  of  Philippos  Matthai  and  PV  Srinivas  Murthy  from  Arka  Motorsports,  supported  by  MRF,  began  the  final  day  with  1min  0 1 s e c d i f f e r e n c e w i t h t h e i r  t e a m m m a t e s a n d l e a d e r s B u t  after  completing  12  kms  he  had  t o p u l l o u t d u e t o e l e c t r i c a l  i s s u e s T h e i r o t h e r t e a m m a t e s  Karna  Kadur  and  Vivek  Y  Bhatt  both  from  Bengaluru,  supported  by  MRF,  began  the  final  day  from  sixth  position  as  they  had  lost  t i m e w h i l e t r y i n g t o g o p a s t  a n o t h e r t e a m m a t e s A m i t t r a j i t  Ghos h  and  As hwi n  Nai k,  who  w e r e c r a w l i n g d u e t o b r e a k  issues  and  were  looking  for  a

B y  then  Gaurav  Gill  had  also  closed  in  and  he  also  had  to  slow  down  in this process and he was given  1 5 ­ s e c a d v a n t a g e f o r t h i s  visibility  issues.  Karna  had  paired  w i t h B h a t t f o r t h e fi r s t t i m e ,  who  had  replaced  an  indisposed  Nikhil  Pai.  This  pair  had  to  pull  out in SS5 due to rear left­break  pad  issues.

JINRC: Jahaan  Singh  along  with  S u r a j K e s h a v a P r a s a d , w h o  w o n t h e A s i a P a c i fi c R a l l y  C h a m p i o n s h i p ( A P R C ) J u n i o r  title  last  month  in  Indonesia,  also  won  the  Junior  INRC  title.  They  w e r e a l s o t h e t o p p e r s o f t h e  c l a s s A r j u n R a j i v a n d M i l e n  George from Ammyfied Rallying  finished  second  with  3min  24sec  difference.  Abhin  Rai  and  Rohit  Gowda  were  third  further  behind  by  3min  11sec.  Ajay  Sankar  and  Nitharshan  finished  fourth  and  Aditya  Kousgi  and  Dilip  Sharan  came  fifth.

Women  class: Anushriya  Gulati,  co­driven  by  Sherwin  Dalmeida  from  Dark  Don  Racing,  who  won  the  K1000  Rally,  also  clinched  the  Ladies  Class  championship  2023.

e n g i n e o v e r h e a t i n g i s s u e s i n  both  SS3  and  SS4  on  Day  1  and  had  to  contend  with  Nikeetaa,  who  was  closely  behind  her  in  both  the  stages.  But  Nikeetaa  was  unable  to  overtake  her  due  to  heavy  dust.

The  final  day  began  with  Shivani  Parmar  and  Arjun  Dheerendra  leading  by  12sec  on  the  pair  of  Nikeetaa  Takkale  and  Raghuram  Saminathan  but  Shivani  had  to  pull  out  in  SS5  due  to  engine  failure.  Nikeetaa  too  had  a  bad  day  in  the  SS5.  Within  the  first  km,  she  hit  a  rock  on  the  route

and  was  managing  well  and  she  had  to  just  nurse  her  car  back  home  as  she  had  a  comfortable  lead  of  29sec  on  Anushriya  who  was  running  third.  But  a  few  kms  before  the  finish,  she  had  to  pull  out  due  to  ball  joint  problem.

AutoTrack had a quick chat with Mr Binu Girija,  Founder and CEO, Way.com about the business, the  industry and their inroads into the Indian markets, just  as he was about to leave for the US.

1. How did you come up with the idea for this business?

A: As a serial entrepreneur , I always look for o p p o r t u n i t i e s I h a d t h e ex p e r i e n c e o f u s i n g parking services and overpaying for it. I realised that there was a need for a better and more affordable solution here. I also recognise that there are so many lik e me who were facing the same issues and are being massively overcharged. That’s where the idea originated for creating a mark etplace for car services.

2. What do you believe led to the success of your business idea?

The  mid  trims­halogen  replaces  the  led  headlamps  and  the  side  i n d i c a t o r s a r e b e l o w t h e  h e a d l a m p s T h e i c e c u b e  formation  LED  fog  lamps  are  just  below  the  head  lamp.  Entry  trim  has  a  halogen  MFR  headlamp  a n d b e l o w a r e h e a d l i g h t  indicators.

When  we  talk  of  rear: You  can  see  a  Shark­Fin  Antenna  coping  with  the  body  colour  and  the  similar  colour  spoiler  which  gives  a  sporty  look.  You  have  a  Starfuturistic  star­map  lighting.  The  s t a r m a p L E D c o n n e c t e d t a i l  lamp  further  connects  to  the  LED  l i g h t b a r t h r o u g h o u t t h e r e a r  door.  The  LED  stop  lamp  is  only

available  in  mid  and  upper  trims.

The  reflectors  are  repositioned  and  below,  you  have  the  sporty  aero  dynamic  skid  plates  in  GTL i n e a n d T u s k e r i n s p i r e d  masculine  skid  plates  in  tech  line.

Jahaan  did  manage  to  extend  his  overnight  lead  by  another  6sec  but  there  on,  he  had  to  cope  up  w i t h h i s c a r i s s u e s a n d t h e n  decided  to  take  it  easy  and  save  a  podium  place.  Since  the  d i f f e r e n c e w i t h t h e f o u r t hplaced  driver  Sahil  Khanna  was  a b o u t 1 m i n 1 5 s e c b u t i t w a s  gradually  reducing  down.  Jahaan  m a n a g e d w e l l w i t h i n t h e  considerable  lead  he  had,  and  finished  on  the  podium.

The  pair  of  Sahil  Khanna  and  Harish  KN  Gowda,  after  starting  fourth  on  Day  2,  managed  to

hold  on  to  the  same  position.  But  they  lost  about  20  sec  in  the  final  stage  and  slid  to  fifth.  The  pair  of  Jacob  KJ  and  Shanmuga  began  their  final  day  in  fifth  position  with  a  difference  of  7sec  with  Sahil  ahead  of  them.  While  the  lead  graph  was  going  up  and  down,  they  managed  to  make  about  23  sec  in  the  final  stage  which  put  them  one  place  up  in  fourth.

Y o u n u s I l y a s , a l o n g w i t h c odriver  Nitin  Jacob,  began  with  a  56­sec  difference  over  Sahil  and  were  looking  very  aggressive  in  Stage  9  and  12.  They  made  the  most  out  of  these  two  stages  but  had  to  settle  behind  them  in  sixth  after  bringing  down  t h e d i f f e r e n c e t o 8 s e c T h e y  managed  to  climb  four  positions  th up  from  overnight  10 place  on  D a y 1 S h e s h a n k J a m w a l a n d  Aseem  Sharma  finished  seventh  with  a  difference  of  35  sec.  They  managed  to  climb  one  position  up  than  their  previous­day  finish.

Sanam  Sekhon,  hailed  as  the  Drift  champ  of  India,  d o m i n a t e d p r o c e e d i n g s    at  the  inaugural  JK  Tyre  Drift  C h a l l e n g e a s h e s w e p t  unopposed  to  victory  in  two  o u t o f t h r e e c a t e g o r i e s a t  c o u n t r y ' s fi r s t ­ e v e r o f fi c i a l   drifting  competition.  Seasoned  d r i f t e r , M u d i t G r o v e r a l s o  finished  on  the  podium  in  all   three  categories  of  the  JK  Tyre  D r i f t C h a l l e n g e w h i c h  c o n c l u d e d i n O c t o b e r a t  Greater  Noida.

The  Chandigarh­based  driver  won  the  D1  category  with  a  whopping  haul  of  744  points  w i t h h i s c l o s e s t r i v a l J u g r a j  Singh  Bhurjee,  driving  a  BMW  M3,  only  picking  up  a  score  of  476.  Mudit  Grover,  with  286  points,  sealed  third  in  his  BMW  E46.

Sekhon  scored  460  points  to  also  win  the  D2  category  with  Mudit  Grover  (262  points)  and  M u g d h a G r o v e r , d r i v i n g t h e  Mercedes  C200  K,  (156  points)  completing  the  podium.

H i s h o p e s o f c o m p l e t i n g a n  unbeaten  run,  however,  were  dashed  with  Mudit  beating  him  to  victory  with  700  points  to  S e k h o n ' s 6 3 6 , w i t h S a m y a k  Kapoor  on  281  points  in  third.

P o i n t s w e r e a w a r d e d b y a  three­member  expert  panel  of  i n t e r n a t i o n a l j u d g e s  comprising  Taniguchi  Atsushi  f r o m J a p a n , T a n a k o r n   Lertyaovarit  from  Thailand  and  India's  own  drift  expert  Alistair   Woodham.  Drivers  were  judged  o n m u l t i p l e p a r a m e t e r s  including  line,  angle,  style  and  speed.

The  three  categories  ­  D1,  D2  and Open ­ were differentiated  by  tyre  width.  Cars  competing  i n t h e D 1 c a t e g o r y w e r e  running  on  tyres  that  were  2152 5 5 m m w i d e T h e m a x i m u m  permitted  tyre  width  in  the  D2  category  was  205mm,  while  all  competitors,  regardless  of  the  width  of  their  tyres  were  eligible  for  the  Open  category.

The  Championship  battle  in  the  MRF  Formula  2000  went  down  to  the  wire.  Sandeep  Kumar  did  just  enough  to  pick  up  crucial  points  and  pip  Kolkata's  Arya  Singh  by  just  three  points  to  claim  the  championship.  Incidentally,  both  t h e M R F F 2 0 0 0 r a c e s w e r e  w o n b y B e n g a l u r u ' s A d i t y a

Also  chalking  his  first  win  in  the

MRF  Formula  1600  category  that  was  run  on  a  combined  grid  with  the  F2000  was  Nellore's  Viswas  Vijayaraj,  who  started  from  P3.  He  had  a  very  close  fight  with  the  s e c o n d ­ p l a c e d A m a n N a g d e v  from  Noida  and  the  difference  th stood to about 1/4  of a second

and  Veer  Sheth  from  Mumbai  came  third  a  second  behind.

“I  am  totally  exhausted  but  very  s a t i s fi e d t o w i n m y fi r s t ­ e v e r  National  championship.  I  missed  the  qualifying  session  yesterday  as  I  was  racing  in  Dubai  (Porsche  Cup)  and  returned  home  early  this  morning.  After  a  two­hour  sleep,  I  was  at  the  track  for  the  races.  The  feeling  is  still  to  sink  in  as  I  am  just  too  tired  mentally,”  said  Meiyappan.
