Dear Customers and Business Partners, With two major trade shows, IMA and ICE Totally Gaming, already held in January the year 2012 has started very successfully. It is pleasing to note that Novomatic gained two prestigious victories at ICE, being awarded the accolades of ‘Best Manufacturer of the Year’ and ‘The Media Award’ during the inaugural Totally Gaming Awards that were run as an integral component of the ICE show.

Those awards are particularly important as both categories were independently judged by leading gaming industry figures and thus represent trophies presented ‘by the industry, to the industry and for the industry’. Our congratulations go to all of those involved.

The ICE show was a huge success for the whole industry, promoting a climate of optimism for both, the exhibitors and also their business partners, guests and visitors. While economic uncertainty still remains the signs are clear that recovery – a slow but steady

process – can be observed throughout the world of gaming. For Novomatic, even though the final statistics are still to be confirmed, it is fair to say that with a turnover of more than three billion Euros 2011 was a milestone year of achievement for the group and we will of course continue to pursue our objectives with purpose and dedication throughout this year and beyond.

So 2012 has already recorded a great start and I wish to take this opportunity to thank all of our colleagues and business partners for their faith in us and for the dedication that they show to our great industry and its wellbeing.

Sehr geehrte Kunden und Geschäftsfreunde, mit den zwei großen Messeevents IMA und ICE-Totally Gaming hat das Jahr 2012 sehr erfolgreich begonnen. Es freut uns auch zu berichten, dass Novomatic in London zwei prestigeträchtige Auszeichnungen erhalten hat. Unser Unternehmen wurde im Rahmen der Totally Gaming Awards als ‚Best Manufacturer of the Year’ sowie mit dem ‚Media Award’ ausgezeichnet. The relationship between the Rank Group’s Grosvenor and Grosvenor G Casinos together with Austrian Gaming Industries GmbH is both longstanding and very special indeed. Going past the 1,000 installed terminals landmark is a clear illustration of the faith that Grosvenor places in the iconic Novomatic product. A further installation at the Grosvenor G Casino in the Manchester suburb of Didsbury takes the total to date to 1,038 terminals and the opening of the Grosvenor G Casino in New Brighton on Merseyside’s Wirral Peninsular will add another 30.

between individuals) that has been built up over time. From our side I know that our input on product development has been positive. It is actually something that runs in parallel with Novomatic’s own core policy of being both a product manufacturer and a top class gaming operator. By observing our customer preferences we can – and do – continually update and improve our whole gaming entertainment offering. Just by way of example, we know that our multiplayer guests prefer to play at slant top terminals. So that is what we provide. Sure, we have some bar top units also but we know, through observation, that the majority of guests prefer slant tops; so that is what we provide for the majority. But certainly without ever forgetting the preferences of the minority – every guest is important! n: What did you see at the recent ICE-Totally Gaming exhibition that particularly interested you? sb: I would be disappointed to see anything on the stand which came as a complete surprise – that would suggest the two companies are not talking to each other often enough! Suffice to say, it rarely happens, but it’s always good to see the products displayed to their best advantage. Of course, there is always so much to see at the major trade shows that you cannot help but be excited.

Novomatic is, of course, a ‘must see’ booth for us and we came away very much looking forward to some of the developments

that are coming down the track. A new Roulette variation, for example. That has been a while in coming from prototype to operations-ready but it is a product that offers something really different: something that will, I hope, enhance our offering and help us in our constant quest to attract new customers. n: It is the widely held industry view that gaming is now more allied with entertainment than ever before. Is that a view that you would subscribe to? sb: Absolutely. That is a view that is held across the Rank Group and it is certainly the case for our casino properties. A casino must, to be successful, have more to offer than tables and slot machines. The extra elements that are needed to attract a discerning customer base have everything to do with entertainment and it is something that we work very hard to provide. We want our guests to enjoy a great night out, with everything that is included in our total offering being contributory to that.

n: Welche besonders interessanten Neuerungen haben Sie auf der letzten ICE Totally Gaming-Messe gesehen? sb: Ich wäre sehr enttäuscht gewesen, komplette Überraschungen auf dem Messestand zu sehen – das würde bedeuten, dass unsere Mitarbeiter nicht in ausreichender Weise miteinander kommunizieren! Und das passiert selten. Aber selbstverständlich ist es immer interessant, die neuen Produkte mit all den Möglichkeiten, die sie bieten, ausgestellt zu sehen. Daher, und auch, weil es immer so viel zu sehen gibt, sind die großen Messen derart spannend. Der Novomatic-Stand ist stets ein Fixpunkt unseres Messebesuches. Auch in diesem Jahr sind wir mit großen Erwartungen von der Messe zurückgekehrt: wir freuen uns auf die Produkte, die nun auf den Markt kommen werden. Eine neue Roulette-Variante zum Beispiel.

Diese Entwicklung ist schon eine ganze Zeit im Stadium zwischen Prototyp und betriebsbereitem Produkt. Peru: Online System ready to go live After a transition period of six months the Peruvian authorities will take the final step in creating a thoroughly regulated gaming market with the full coming into effect of the new Peruvian Gaming Law. The law will take binding effect on July 8th when it puts every single machine in operation under governmental control via connection to an online system. Octavian is at the forefront of the developments, offering a highly sophisticated modular solution for the operators in the market: Accounting Control Progressives System – ACP.

The local jurisdiction Gaming in Peru is regulated by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) under the following laws: Law N°27796 (2002) in its 1st ’Disposición Final’; this law’s amendment, approved by Supreme Decree N°009-2002-MINCETUR (2002) in its 9th ’Disposición Transitoria’; the Supreme Decrees N°0022010-MINCETUR and N°015-2010-MINCETUR (2010) and finally the new law N°29829. Under the new law all slot machines in operation will eventually be monitored by government-controlled servers.

In a first step, all casino and slots operators were required to connect their machines within the individual operation as well as interconnect their operations within one central online monitoring system by October 1st, 2011. In a second step, under the new law N°29829 that came into effect on January 7th, 2012, this central server will be linked to the government-controlled servers at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism and simultaneously at the Peruvian tax authority’s headquarters. The law allows for a transition period of six months that will enable the Peruvian operators to implement an appropriate online system by July 8th, 2012. If any operators, however, should happen to implement hardware or software within their online system that the Peruvian ministry considers inappropriate or insecure, they are granted a further period of three years for the upgrade.

Thorough control This ‘Implementation of the Online Unified Control System’ represents an important final step for the authorities to complete the reorganization and thorough regulation of the Peruvian gaming market. Once all gaming machines have been interconnected with the Ministry of Tourism and the Taxation Authority, these government authorities will obtain exact control of all revenues and due gaming tax payments. At the same time the implementation of this system was also eagerly awaited by law-abiding operators

in order to eliminate unfair competition through operators whose methods of control and revenue declarations have been neither reliable nor exact. The new online system will enable the gaming and tax authorities to base the entire supervision and control on real-time and exact data instead of the previous manual declaration processes that were highly prone to errors and inaccuracies.

ACP For these new market conditions of regulated gaming the Novomatic group company Octavian offers the ideal solution for Peruvian operators: Accounting Control Progressives System – ACP. This modular casino management system provides a flexible solution for all sorts of operations in terms of site and regulatory requirements. The ACP system allows the integration of an unlimited number of gaming equipment of various manufacturers using all major protocols, including gaming machines with mechanical/ digital meters as well as stand-alone jackpots. The basic modules comprise: Accounting (equipment management & reports), Control (user interface and security) and Progressives (jackpots) – further modules can be added on demand. These include: Cashless, TiTo, Player Loyalty and other functionalities.

The basic ACP modules completely and ideally fulfil the legal requirements of the new Peruvian gaming law: within the ACP system all gaming machines of one operation are linked to a local floor server which is then linked to a central server where the operator benefits from a comprehensive real-time financial and technical audit, centralised accounting as well as active floor management. This central server is then linked to the government-controlled servers.

The Octavian online system ACP has been one of the first systems to obtain the official homologation for the Peruvian market through a GLI certification as well as the direct approval of MINCETUR. In Peru the ACP system is already installed in eight of the twelve Novomatic group operations. Two of them (’Admiral Carrera‘ and

’Liberty Benavides‘) were enhanced with the additional Cashless and Player Tracking modules in order to provide for additional customer relationship management tools and have since registered an increase of the overall machine performance of 10-15 percent.

The remaining two operations will be connected in line with the internal roll-out plan within the coming weeks.

The ACP system is backed by Octavian’s huge practical experience, comprising more than 20,000 gaming machines are connected to the ACP system in various countries and continents.

Extensive hardware and software preparations, an efficient installation procedure and quick and easy setup allow for the parallel hardware mounting on-site and server configuration without downtime in the actual gaming operation. The ACP system runs on a highly protected internet connection based on secure firewall and encryption and uses a highly secured data transfer protocol. It provides a full information back-up of the database and optionally offers the possibility of up to seven days automated data storage.

Octavian provides 24x7 full technical support via telephone and Internet in English, Spanish, German and Russian as well as remote online system software configuration and trouble shooting.

The open source development platform of the ACP system allows for maximum R&D flexibility – Octavian can provide quick customized adaptations (e.g for automatically generated reports) and additional functionalities on demand.

The Status Quo Currently the Peruvian market comprises some 72,000 slot machines in more than 780 authorized locations. Of these, about 17 percent are operated by very small operators, who might not be able so afford the investments and ensuing taxes required by the new gaming law and therefore will probably have to close operations. Many of the larger operators, too, are planning to reduce machine quantities so that the market is currently undergoing a downsizing process while the quality and security of the prevailing offer increases.

There are few operators who have already complied with the online systems requirement as of today, approximately about 10 percent of the market, while many are still comparing offers and alternatives. Including some major customers who are now in their final decision making stages Octavian expects about 5,300 machines to be connected via the ACP system by July 2012 – which will equal an estimated 10 percent plus of the market.

In the meantime Octavian maintains an excellent co-operation with MINCETUR, having already provided special training for the testing officers and regulatory staff. The gaming authorities proved highly content with the ACP system features that ideally provide for the required control mechanisms. Peru: Das Online-System ist startbereit Nach einer sechsmonatigen Übergangszeit werden die peruanischen Behörden nun den finalen Schritt setzen, um mit dem neuen peruanischen Glücksspielgesetz einen fair regulierten Glücksspielmarkt zu schaffen. Das Gesetz wird am 8. Juli verbindlich in Kraft treten und mit diesem Stichtag jedes einzelne in Betrieb befindliche Glücksspielgerät über ein Online-System unter staatliche Kontrolle stellen. Octavian stellte sich früh auf diese Entwicklung ein und bietet eine sehr anpassungsfähige modulare Lösung für die Betreiber auf dem peruanischen Markt: Accounting Control Progressives System – ACP.

Die rechtliche Lage Glücksspiel ist in Peru durch das Ministerium für Außenhandel und Tourismus (MINCETUR) unter den folgenden Gesetzen geregelt: Gesetz Nr.27796 (2002) und seinem ersten Zusatz; die Novelle dieses Gesetzes durch das Oberste Gerichtsurteil Nr.009-2002MINCETUR (2002) in seinem neunten Übergangszusatz; die Höchsterlässe Nr.002-2010-MINCETUR und Nr.015-2010-MINCETUR (2010) und schließlich das neue Gesetz Nr.29829. Im Rahmen des neuen Gesetzes werden alle betriebenen Glücksspielgeräte über staatliche Zentralserver kontrolliert.

In einem ersten Schritt waren die Betreiber aufgefordert, bis zum 1. Oktober 2011 ihre jeweiligen Maschinen innerhalb der eigenen Spielbetriebe zu vernetzen und mit einem zentralen Monitoring-System zu verlinken. In einem zweiten Schritt wird, unter dem neuen Gesetz, das mit 7. Januar in Kraft trat, dieser zentrale Server des Betreibers mit den staatlichen Kontrollservern des Ministeriums für Außenhandel und Tourismus sowie der Zentrale der peruanischen Finanzbehörden verbunden. Das Gesetz räumt eine Übergangsfrist von sechs Monaten bis zum 8. Juli 2012 ein, im Rahmen derer die peruanischen Betreiber ein geeignetes OnlineSystem implementieren können. Software verwenden, die nach Ansicht der Behörden ungeeignet oder nicht in ausreichendem Maß sicher ist, steht ihnen eine Frist von weiteren drei Jahren für ein Upgrade zur Verfügung.

Totale Kontrolle Diese Implementierung des ‘Online Unified Control System’ stellt für die Behörden einen wichtigen Schritt zur Reorganisation und gründlichen Regulation des peruanischen Glücksspielmarkts dar.

Sobald alle Glücksspielgeräte mit dem Tourismusministerium und der Finanzaufsicht verbunden sind, haben diese staatlichen Behörden exakte Kontrolle über alle Einnahmen und die daraus resultierenden Steuerabgaben. Gleichzeitig wurde die Einführung dieses Systems auch von den legalen Betreibern sehnlich erwartet, da es endlich Maßnahmen gegen den unfairen Wettbewerb durch Betreiber mit fragwürdigen bzw. ungenauen Einnahmenerklärungen und Steuerangaben setzt. Das neue Online-System ermöglicht es den Glücksspiel- und Steuerbehörden, ihre gesamte Überwachung und Kontrolle auf exakte Echtzeit-Daten zu stützen – anstatt der zuvor üblichen handschriftlichen Erklärungen und Formulare, die äußerst anfällig für Fehler und Ungenauigkeiten waren.

ACP Unter diesen neuen Marktbedingungen bietet das NovomaticUnternehmen Octavian die ideale Lösung für die peruanischen Betreiber: das Accounting Control Progressives System – ACP. Das modulare System bietet eine flexible Lösung für alle erdenklichen Kunden- oder Gesetzesanforderungen. Effiziente Hard- und Software-Vorbereitungen, ein rascher Installationsablauf sowie ein schnelles und einfaches Setup ermöglichen parallel zur Hardwareimplementierung vor Ort die Serverkonfiguration ohne Standzeiten im eigentlichen Spielbetrieb. Das ACP-System läuft über eine gesicherte Internetverbindung, basierend auf einer Firewall, Verschlüsselung sowie einem sicheren Datentransferprotokoll. Es bietet ein komplettes Back-Up der Datenbank sowie optional die Möglichkeit der automatisierten Datenspeicherung für bis zu sieben Tage.

Octavian bietet 24-Stunden-Support über Telefon und Internet in Englisch, Deutsch, Spanisch und Russisch sowie Softwarekonfiguration und Hilfestellung über eine spezielle Online-Systemsoftware. Die Open-Source-Entwicklungsplattform des ACP-Systems bietet maximale Flexibilität für die technische Weiterentwicklung gemäß Gesetzes- oder Kundenanforderung. Die Entwicklungsabteilung von Octavian ist in der Lage, auf Anfrage rasch weitere neue Funktionalitäten (z.B. für automatisch generierte Reports) und Features bereitzustellen.

Der Status Quo Derzeit umfasst der peruanische Markt rund 72.000 Glücksspielgeräte in mehr als 780 autorisierten Glücksspielbetrieben. Ungefähr 17 Prozent der Geräte werden von sehr kleinen Unternehmen betrieben, die vermutlich nicht in der Lage sein werden, die vom neuen Gesetz geforderten notwendigen Investitionen und Steuerabgaben aufzubringen. Viele davon werden in der Folge wahrscheinlich den Betrieb einstellen müssen. Auch zahlreiche größere Betreiber planen eine Reduktion der Gerätezahlen, sodass der Markt zurzeit einen Schrumpfungsprozess durchläuft, der gleichzeitig zu einer Verbesserung des verbleibenden Angebots unter qualitativen und sicherheitsrelevanten Aspekten führt.

Nur wenige Betreiber haben bereits die notwendigen Vorkehrungen für das Online-System getroffen, ca. 10 Prozent, während der Großteil noch Angebote und Alternativen vergleicht. Inklusive einiger größerer Kunden, die noch im letzten Stadium des Entscheidungsfindungsprozesses sind, schätzt man bei Octavian, dass im Juli 2012 ungefähr 5.300 Geräte über das ACP-System verbunden sein werden. Das entspricht ca. 10 Prozent des verbleibenden Marktes.

In der Zwischenzeit hat Octavian eine hervorragende Zusammenarbeit mit MINCETUR geschaffen und auf dieser Basis spezielle Schulungen für das Kontrollpersonal und die Mitarbeiter der Aufsichtsbehörden angeboten und durchgeführt. Die Glücksspielbehörden zeigten sich sehr zufrieden mit den Features des ACP-Systems, die die Anforderungen der Kontrollmechanismen in idealer Weise erfüllen. Daher ist man bei Octavian zuversichtlich, dass das ACPSystem seine Position als das führende Online Casino Management System in den Betrieben Perus weiter ausbauen wird. n

The Totally Gaming Awards, the new offshoot of the ICE show and organised by the same team, sought to recognise gaming innovation, achievement and best practice across a broad range of categories that were independently judged by some of the most luminary names in the international industry. Novomatic took two top awards; being adjudged – based on performance during year 2011 – to be ‘Best Manufacturer of the Year’ and also winning the ‘Media Award’; where the judges unanimously recognised the

ASTRA opens discussions with Danoptra to acquire Bell Fruit Games, Gamestec, Mazooma Interactive Games and RLMS Astra Games Limited, the UK’s wholly owned subsidiary of Austrian Gaming Industries GmbH and part of the Novomatic Group of Companies, has confirmed that it is in discussions with Danoptra to acquire certain key assets of what is popularly known as the ‘Danoptra Gaming Group’, comprising Bell Fruit Games, Gamestec, Mazooma Interactive Games and RLMS in order to create a leading presence in the UK market.

The present talks, which do not include the Danoptra companies OBL or Leisure Connection and which would be subject to approval by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), now look set to represent one of the most significant developments of recent years in a gaming market that is rapidly developing with new digital technologies while maintaining the continuing use of the analogue technology which is still in strong demand from UK gaming operators.

Julian Nicholls, Chairman of Danoptra commented: “Having worked together with Astra for some years on digital gaming machines operating alongside our successful analogue games, it is apparent that the strengths of Danoptra can be enhanced through access to the resources, market knowledge and experience of Astra and its position within the Novomatic Group. The parties hope that exchange of contracts will take place in mid March with completion of the acquisition scheduled for the end of April, subject to regulatory approval. Pending completion Astra and Danoptra Gaming Group shall continue to operate as fully independent companies in the market.

AGI Gaming Colombia opens new offices in Bogotá When the Novomatic Group last year acquired certain key assets of Octavian International Limited the former Colombian Octavian sales and service entity was renamed AGI Gaming Colombia S.A.S. As a part of the Novomatic Group of Companies the company now offers a greatly enhanced product range for the Colombian market and in January officially opened new offices in Bogotá.

For AGI Gaming Colombia, 2012 has made an excellent start: On January 2nd the company officially opened a new sales and service hub in the city centre of Bogotá. The new Colombian headquarters were adapted with an investment of $50,000 USD and comprise 450 square metres on two floors; representing state of the art gaming technology, ambience and entertainment.
