COMPETITION BOARD FROM THE

G’day APRA members,

I’d like to introduce myself as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the first time.

Firstly, a huge thank you to Tom Willoughby and Jane Ryan for their massive efforts and contributions to the APRA whilst serving their time on the board. I am looking forward to the executive and directors working together in the future. I would like to remind all our competitors and members that the event directors are there for a reason, so please use them. They are more than happy to chat and help with any queries or concerns.

With the finals and Christmas run fast approaching, I wish all our members good luck and safe travels down the road.

Brad Pierce

COMPETITION BOARD CHAIRMAN

FROM THE

HEAD OFFICE

The 2025 Season is off and running with Injune, Mitchell, Great Northern Rodeo Series Final and Warwick already behind us! We attended the 2024 Hall of Fame Inductee Dinner, Wednesday 23rd October. It was a great night, and we congratulate Errol Lather & Dick White’s family on their induction. Thank you to everyone who travelled long distances for the event, it was wonderful to put faces to voices on the phone

A few housekeeping things to mention this month.

Emails – it seems that some email companies have ramped up their security features and some emails from Head Office are ending up in junk/spam

Emails from Head Office like apra@prorodeo.com.au or staff first name @prorodeo.com.au can be clicked as “safe” in your email program. This makes sure it lands in your inbox not the junk/spam folder. If you do find it in your junk folder, right click it or select it and look for the “Not Junk” function

We love hearing from members, and we are happy to help with any of your enquiries, but please remember that my staff should always be treated with respect. They are doing a great job in a very busy office and giving their best.

Head Office will closed 4pm 24th December and reopen 2nd January at 8am. Please take note of entry dates for the Christmas/New Year Rodeos.

The Member online portal is fully operational, and we appreciate your patience while we all get used to it If you need assistance, please call the office and we can walk you through the process

IIntroducing Introducing ntroducing

Rookie Cowgirl of the Year

MADDISON CABAN

20yr old Horse Trainer from Emerald, QLD

Standout moment of her season.....Winning Roma on the easter run It’s one everyone wants to win; the competition is tough and I won it on my little horse Hammer

The furthest she travelled for a rodeo this season... Was on the Christmas run in December last year when I went to Victoria for a couple of weeks.

What she enjoyed most about his season... Having Hammer feeling 100% and having a horse underneath me that wanted to win as bad as I did I also enjoyed competing against all of the other rookies as they made it a really tough year!

Who was instrumental in her rookie success... Other than my horse Hammer, who played the biggest role in winning me these titles, my family were very instrumental in this season I’ve had a pretty big roller coaster of a year, and they have never ever left my side As soon as I got home, they made sure I had horses fit to go and win on straight away and continued to push me right until the end they wanted me to win as much as I did I will never be able to thank them enough, especially my Mum and Dad. Also, my sponsors that stood by me all season, it would be a lot harder to get down the road without their support.

Looking back, the most rewarding part of her season Is coming out on top after missing all of the big rodeos of the season

The advice she would give future rookies... Never stop thinking positive, focus on what your job is and don’t worry about the competition you have around you, as that will play a big factor in you winning a rookie title

Describing her season in three words... Challenging, perseverance, rewarding.

T22yr old Contract Musterer from Taroom, QLD

Standout moment of his season..... Travelling down south and winning and placing in most of the rodeos down there I hadn’t been south before to Victoria, so it was good to go down there

The furthest he travelled for a rodeo this season Tasmania!

What he enjoyed most about his season Just travelling with different people

Who was instrumental in his rookie success Shane Iker has always been one of my biggest supporters and help Campbell Hodson and Tylen for allowing me on their horses down south. Being able to get on good horses always helps.

Looking back, the most rewarding part of his season... Is winning the titles after travelling all year long.

The advice he would give future rookies... Even if you are having a bad run, just keep going.

Describing his season in three words... Long, challenging, lifestyle.

SADDLE BRONC RIDING CHAMPION

CALLUM CLEMENT

30yr old Head Stockman from Clermont, QLD

Standout moment of his season..... Tooloombilla rodeo, where I was 2nd in the first round and then drew Whiskey Boy in the shootout I’d been hoping to draw him, and I cracked my first 80-point ride

The furthest he travelled for a rodeo this season Whittlesea, Vic I won the bronc ride which made it even better

What he enjoyed most about his season The push, support, endless tips and drive from fellow bronc riders, week in week out

Who was instrumental in his rookie success It would have to be my partner Chloe for making it all possible for me to get away every weekend that she couldn't get there and for giving me the support and push I needed while holding the fort down while I was away

Looking back, the most rewarding part of his season... Was being consstent for a fair few rodeos. I started the northern run with a few tough fraws and buck offs, but turned it around to be 3rd at Mount Isa, and 2nd at both Elite and Capella. Those placings turned everything around to give me a glimmer of hope to become the 2024 rookie champion.

The advice he would give future rookies... You have to have bad days to have good days. That’s just rodeoing. Never quit, dust yourself off and as all your fellow competitors will say, ‘ on to the next one mate.’

Describing his season in three words... Lots of miles!

BAREBACK RIDING CHAMPION

JACK CHARNOCK

Standout moment of his season..... Would be getting on Rosie’s Boy at Nebo rodeo.

The furthest he travelled for a rodeo this season... Mount Isa, Qld

What he enjoyed most about his season... Getting on some good horses, competing and travelling with some of my best mates and the people closet to me Living the life I love

Who was instrumental in his rookie success...My family And Brendan Crawley for getting me into the sport of bareback riding and pushing me to do what I said I would do My partner Ellie, for pushing me to not give up on the rookie title after injuries and months missed

Looking back, the most rewarding part of his season... To come back from injury after 4 months, missing the busiest time of year and being able to win the rookie title

The advice he would give future rookies Stay on the right path, always better yourself, listen and ask questions Don’t be too hard on yourself, have fun and back yourself!

Describing his season in three words Challenging, enjoyable, rewarding

STEER WRESTLING CHAMPION

WILLIAM SLOAN

Steer Wrestling

$9448.80

23yr old Mining Engineer from Sapphire, Qld

Standout moment of his season..... Competing at the Syndey Royal Easter Show was a standout moment for me It's a rodeo I always wanted to tick off my bucket list, and it was a lot of fun to compete on the grass inside Allianz Stadium.

The furthest he travelled for a rodeo this season... The furthest rodeo I've been to from Emerald would have been the Tri-Series rodeos in Victoria

What he enjoyed most about his season...I had never rodeoed outside of Queensland until my rookie year. So, the most enjoyable part of my rookie season was all the new people I met, the places I got to go, and the new mates I made along the way.

Who was instrumental in his rookie success...Everyone from the Destiny Downs team has been instrumental in my success inside the arena during my rookie year Especially Shane and Leanne, who allowed me to mount off Dave, and Jayden, who hazed for me throughout the year The people outside the arena who have been instrumental to my rookie year are Cameron Bell and Jamie Reynolds for their mentorship and guidance and Logan Corbett for his help with training and nutrition

Looking back, the most rewarding part of his season Seeing my practice and training outside the arena translate into results throughout the season.

The advice he would give future rookies... It is essential that any rookie have a network of people to whom they can turn for help with practice, technique, training, mindset, and travel

Describing his season in three words... Practice. Preparation. Persistence.

TEAM ROPING HEELING CHAMPION

JOSH SYMES

25yr old Contract Stockman from Leeton, NSW

Standout moment of his season..... It actually wasn’t heeling, it was making a good bull dogging run at Nebo

The furthest he travelled for a rodeo this season I went everywhere from Traralgon, Vic to Cloncurry, Qld!

What he enjoyed most about his season It was a great group of lads we got on great inside and out of the arena

Who was instrumental in his rookie success Corey Heath and Aaron Bookluck Corey was always giving me the opportunity to practice and Booky, if I had a question or anything at all, he was only ever a phone call away

Looking back, the most rewarding part of his season... It was a great group of fellas and we all wanted to win but in saying that, we were all just as happy if one of the other boys made a run.

The advice he would give future rookies... Go and do it. Have a crack and never count yourself out. As long as you keep putting in you’ll get something out.’

Describing his season in three words... Challenging, troublesome, exciting!

BULL RIDING CHAMPION

DARCY HARRISON DOUGLAS

old Butcher from Cloncurry, Qld.

Standout moment of his season..... Would probably have to be winning Warwick rodeo, the most famous rodeo in Australia

The furthest he travelled for a rodeo this season... Warwick, Qld!

What he enjoyed most about his season.... Being able to spend time with friends and family and watching everyone do good.

Who was instrumental in his rookie success...That would have to be Donovan Rutherfurd, Mum and Dad because they are always positive and wanting you to do better tomorrow

Looking back, the most rewarding part of his season... It would probably have to be making it to the finals and winning a rookie title.

The advice he would give future rookies... Believe in yourself!

Describing his season in three words... Always fun time!
